The shrill cries issuing from the mouths beneath the purple tentacles affected Su Yuanbai as well. His body swayed faintly, and for once, double images appeared in his pitch-black eyes.

Su Yuanbai pulled Cui Dandan away from the abbot’s chamber and retreated into the open grounds outside.

But the purple tentacles pursued them relentlessly. No matter how tightly he wielded the short bronze staff in his hand, a weapon was ultimately limited by its length, and the purple tentacles managed to coil around him several times.

Each time, the mouths beneath them sank their teeth into him, leaving wounds behind.

Yet compared with the tentacles, Su Yuanbai’s attention was fixed more on the monk born amid the swirling purple blood. This purple monk looked exactly like Master Kongchen, who sat upon the meditation cushion.

Cui Dandan knew that remaining there would only hold the handsome man back. The moment he brought her to the open ground, she had already begun running toward the outer courtyard of the temple.

By the time Su Yuanbai engaged the purple tentacles, she had long since fled into a stone stele pavilion.

When Su Yuanbai saw that Cui Dandan had gone far enough, he drew a deep breath. The red crane robe on his body billowed without wind, and a ferocious phantom of a white ape emerged behind him.

The red crane robe was exceedingly strange. It offered no defensive power whatsoever, yet no matter how severe the wounds left upon it, the robe would eventually restore itself to its original condition.

“So, you are from the White Ape Sect. Have you come to avenge the fellow I devoured?”

Master Kongchen stepped to the entrance of the abbot’s chamber and gazed kindly at the fierce white ape phantom behind Su Yuanbai as he spoke with a soft laugh.

This was not the first time Master Kongchen had seen someone possessing such a white ape phantom. His memory of that particular man was especially vivid.

Even when tortured to death, that man had never once begged for mercy.

Su Yuanbai paid no attention to Master Kongchen. With another sweep of his bronze staff, he forced back the purple tentacles, then suddenly roared at Master Kongchen.

The white ape behind him roared as well.

A violent, murderous gale rose into a vortex, grinding the purple tentacles into nothing. Its momentum did not diminish as it surged straight toward Master Kongchen.

“When did the White Ape Sect acquire a technique like this?”

Cui Dandan peeked out from behind the stone stele in the pavilion, her brows tightly furrowed as she muttered to herself.

Although she had never joined the White Ape Sect, she had seen Wu Yang’s master and Wu Yang himself perform various techniques of the sect. She had never witnessed anything resembling this roar, akin to the Lion’s Roar technique.

“You... Something is wrong.”

The purple monk stepped in front of Master Kongchen. Before the monk born from the swirling purple blood could display even the slightest hint of power, his entire body had already shattered, blown away until not even a trace remained beneath the violent gale.

But the gale also came to a halt.

Su Yuanbai, however, did not stop attacking. His body arrived before Master Kongchen along with the surging wind. The instant the gale ceased was precisely when he struck.

The bronze staff, split from the White Ape Mother-and-Son Staff into two sections, plunged without hesitation into Master Kongchen’s abdomen.

Yet Su Yuanbai did not press his advantage. Instead, he released the staff and abruptly retreated, crossing both arms above his head as he did so.

Rumble!

The abbot’s chamber collapsed with a thunderous crash.

A sharp, pointed purple limb stabbed viciously down from above, piercing straight through Su Yuanbai’s arm before he could retreat very far.

Though he could feel the pain of flesh and bone being pierced, Su Yuanbai’s expression remained calm, without the slightest ripple.

The wound on his arm had only just begun spreading with venom from the purple limb when it was swiftly devoured by a blood-red Flower of the Other Shore. More than that, the flower even began to corrode the limb, spreading toward its sharp, pointed tip.

The monster that suddenly appeared amid the ruins of the abbot’s chamber was no weakling. Nearly thirty feet tall and more than ten feet wide, its entire body was purple, and it resembled a centipede. Before the blood-red Flower of the Other Shore could devour its limb, the monster forcibly snapped it off itself.

Purple blood spattered through the air like rain.

Before those drops could reach the ground, they transformed in midair into countless purple centipedes that converged upon Su Yuanbai, tearing and biting at him.

The purple tentacles Su Yuanbai had ground to nothing suddenly grew from the monster’s abdomen once more. This time, there were no countless strands—only four broad tentacles, each powerful enough to crush ten Su Yuanbais to death.

Beneath each broad tentacle was merely a single mouth, split open from its tip to its base. Every time the mouth opened and closed, it released a piercing howl.

Even though she had fled far away, Cui Dandan still covered her ears with both hands. The shrill howls were not aimed at her, yet they left her dizzy and disoriented.

The four broad tentacles slammed toward Su Yuanbai from front, back, left, and right, while countless sharp purple limbs stabbed down from above like the points of a thousand blades.

There was nowhere to retreat and nowhere to dodge.

Anyone who witnessed this scene would have thought him doomed.

“Roar!”

Suddenly, an extremely fierce and violent roar erupted from the white ape phantom behind Su Yuanbai. The white fur covering the phantom began to grow wildly.

A blood-red Flower of the Other Shore emerged upon its forehead, transforming into crimson patterns that spread across its entire body.

Su Yuanbai took a light step backward, and to everyone’s astonishment, his entire person entered the white ape phantom. The ape’s features gradually transformed into Su Yuanbai’s handsome face, while its four feet became bare and crimson.

The phantom solidified.

The white ape descended into the world.

The four broad tentacles were torn apart by the white ape’s hands, while the countless sharp purple limbs failed to leave even a mark upon its body.

The purple centipedes were either casually crushed beneath its feet or seized by the handful and stuffed into its mouth. Purple fluid trickled from the corners of its lips.

“How can this be Zhu Yan?!”

Upon seeing the indestructible white ape, the purple monster resembling a centipede stared at its human face, white head, and red feet before crying out in terror.

Its voice was filled with such fear that not a trace of fighting spirit remained.

It burrowed into the ground, intending to escape through the earth. But its body was far too long. The white ape reached down and seized it, dragging it forcibly from the soil.

Then the white ape’s body swelled explosively, surging into the clouds above the mountaintop. Its height could no longer be discerned.

All that could be seen was the nearly thirty-foot-tall purple centipede-like monster, treated like a mere crawling insect as the white ape gripped it with both hands and pulled.

The monster split in two.

Even after being torn apart, the severed halves continued twitching in the white ape’s hands.

Only when the white ape reached into the broken body with one finger and extracted an eerie bead shimmering with purple light did the severed halves finally stop moving.

The white ape swallowed the bead, and the corpse at last fell completely still.

A flash of red light passed.

The enormous white ape phantom vanished. Only the unconscious Su Yuanbai remained, lying amid the wreckage of the open ground, while a white Flower of the Other Shore slowly revolved beneath him.

The tears in his red crane robe began to mend.

As Su Yuanbai lay unconscious, a fierce white-fur mark between his brows gradually receded into the center of his forehead.
