Chapter 44: The Dragon and Sun Duo
As expected, the Fifth Young Master did indeed catch sight of a man dressed in white.
Trailing behind this man was a petite and charming maid, her face radiant with a captivating smile.
From afar, it was impossible to discern what the pair were discussing... Yet, they appeared to be in excellent spirits.
All this time, the Fifth Young Master had been eager to see for himself just who this so-called husband of Little Sister Du was—the one she always described as a prodigy, omnipotent in every way.
How could he so thoroughly capture Little Sister Du’s heart, making her act like a starry-eyed maiden whenever his name was mentioned?
Every sentence she uttered seemed invariably to revolve around “my husband.”
At last, the Fifth Young Master found himself face to face with the infamous figure.
He saw that Li Yi’s eyebrows were sharp as swords, his eyes bright as stars; his features were exquisitely handsome, his countenance imbued with a military air, and his slender form carried a striking elegance. The Fifth Young Master had to admit to himself that Little Sister’s husband did indeed possess the power to make countless young women swoon.
Li Yi’s dashing appearance left the Fifth Young Master momentarily dazed and taken aback.
“Hmph, no wonder Little Sister never stops talking about this scoundrel—he really is quite easy on the eyes,” he muttered inwardly.
It was as if, by complaining about Li Yi in his heart, he could vent some of his frustration at having been so abruptly supplanted in Little Sister Du’s affections.
Just then, Little Sister Du suddenly reached up and shielded the side of her face.
Her delicate and adorable features betrayed a hint of panic.
The Fifth Young Master stared in confusion, utterly at a loss as to what was happening.
“Fifth Young Master, please help me hide! If my husband sees me dressed like this, he’ll surely make fun of me...” Little Sister Du pouted, her voice urgent as she implored him.
At the same time, she tried to shrink further into the shadows.
The Fifth Young Master looked on, utterly speechless, his nostrils flaring in exasperation.
The way Little Sister Du was sneaking about now, she looked for all the world like a child who had done something wrong and was desperately trying to avoid her parent.
But the more she tried to hide, the more the Fifth Young Master wanted to see whether this handsome husband of hers would actually tease her in public.
He and Little Sister Du had always delighted in poking fun at each other and taking pleasure in the other’s embarrassment.
Sensing an opportunity for amusement, the Fifth Young Master’s eyes gleamed with mischief.
“My, my, Little Sister, what are you hiding for?” he said with a wicked smile, pulling her hand away and raising his voice slightly. “Little Sister Du, are you really afraid your husband will eat you alive right here?”
Little Sister Du rolled her eyes at him on the spot, exasperated.
So much for helping her!
He was doing this on purpose—obviously!
The Fifth Young Master must be deliberately trying to make her look foolish.
Little Sister Du bit her lip in frustration, berating herself for choosing her friends so poorly...
But not daring to give herself away to Li Yi, she didn’t dare make a sound. She could only glare fiercely at the Fifth Young Master, her small eyes burning with indignation, while raising a tiny fist in silent threat.
It was as if she were saying, “Fifth Young Master, if you say one more word, I’ll cut you off for good!”
But the Fifth Young Master was utterly unafraid, and his laughter only grew more gleeful.
“Come now, Little Sister, what’s there to hide? Step out and greet your husband. There’s nothing shameful about our attire today.”
“…”
“Come on out, Little Sister, what are you so worried about?”
“…”
Little Sister Du wanted nothing more than to give him a good beating.
But at this moment, she dared not make a move, and could find no way to threaten him except to keep her head down, plastered to the table like a stubborn patch.
Meanwhile, the Fifth Young Master chattered on without end...
...
...
At that moment, Li Yi suddenly sensed an unusual gaze directed his way. He also happened to catch the words “Little Sister Du” spoken nearby, which piqued his curiosity. He raised his brows in surprise and looked in the direction of the voice.
All it took was a glance to see, at a table by the window, one man clutching the hand of another, while the latter did his utmost to evade him.
Two grown men holding hands and squabbling in public created a profoundly unsettling scene.
“Could those two gentlemen be the infamous ‘Dragon Yang Pair’...?” Many in the crowd wondered in secret.
The thought that these two, both rather handsome, might harbor such peculiar tastes sent a shiver of disgust through everyone present...
Even Li Yi felt a chill of revulsion at the sight.
Startled, he quickly looked away, unwilling to witness any more of that disturbing spectacle.
Yet what puzzled Li Yi even more was that he clearly heard someone calling “Little Sister,” the voice high and sharp, but after scanning the room, he could not spot her anywhere.
“How odd—I could’ve sworn someone called Little Sister’s name,” he murmured, turning to ask Yue’er, “Did you hear it too?”
“Yes, Young Master, I heard it as well,” Yue’er replied honestly, her gaze fixed on the two “men” quarreling nearby.
Suddenly, Yue’er leaned closer to Li Yi and whispered, “Young Master, look closely at their wrists—so fair and smooth, like the finest mutton fat jade. No man should have such skin.”
With Yue’er’s reminder, Li Yi forced down his revulsion and cast another glance, half in disbelief.
Upon closer inspection, sure enough, their wrists were just as Yue’er had described.
They must be girls disguised as men...
With this realization, the sense of disgust in Li Yi’s heart vanished in an instant.
“Whew... Thank goodness I didn’t see anything truly scarring,” he sighed in relief.
Otherwise, his mood would have been ruined for the entire day...
...
...
As Li Yi’s gaze drifted their way, the Fifth Young Master, who had stood there dazed and silent for some time, suddenly curved his lips and thought of a brilliant idea.
He slumped over the table with a heavy sigh. “Ah... Little Sister, your husband is so dull—he’s already left!”
“Huh? He’s really gone?” Little Sister Du, hearing the helplessness in his tone, finally dared to lift her head a little, frowning in disbelief.
But the Fifth Young Master pursed his lips and feigned gloom, gesturing toward Li Yi’s former spot and grumbling, “Believe it or not, see for yourself—there’s no one left there!”
Seeing his convincing expression, Little Sister Du finally relaxed a little.
Shielding half her face with her hand, she turned—with a mixture of suspicion and hope—toward where Li Yi had just been.
