Chapter 7: There’s Something Strange About This Boy
"Mom, please, I beg you, let Lin Feng go!"
Su Qingxue's body tensed instantly, her voice plaintive as she pleaded with the elegant woman.
Lin Feng, on the other hand, showed not a trace of fear. He even glanced over with a hint of curiosity, thinking to himself that it was no wonder Miss Su was so stunning—her mother, though older, still possessed exquisite features unmarred by the passage of time.
Sensing Lin Feng’s gaze, the woman’s delicate brows furrowed sharply.
She issued another command.
“After you cut off his hands, gouge out his eyes as well.”
“Understood.”
A grim smile spread across A’Biao’s face as he flicked his wrist, twirling a short dagger in the air with practiced showmanship, as though he eagerly anticipated the blood to come.
Lin Feng couldn’t help but call out,
“Auntie, I only looked at you. Isn’t this a bit much?”
No sooner had he finished speaking than A’Biao was upon him, moving like a shadow.
The dagger thrust forward, so swift and forceful that the very air seemed to quiver.
Lin Feng’s face grew serious. This man with the hawkish nose was nothing like those ordinary bodyguards—the way he attacked, the speed and power, marked him as a true expert.
Focusing all his strength, Lin Feng shifted his stance, narrowly avoiding the glinting knife, then unleashed a punch, aiming precisely at A’Biao’s fourth left rib.
If he landed that blow, the breaking rib would pierce the chest cavity—enough to leave a man bedridden for months, if not dead.
A’Biao grunted coldly and met the punch head-on.
Bang!
The heavy thud of their fists collided and echoed through the living room.
The chandelier above and the water glasses on the table trembled faintly from the shock.
Lin Feng remained unmoved, but A’Biao stumbled back several steps, struggling to steady himself.
“What are you doing?”
The woman’s voice was sharp with displeasure, thinking A’Biao must be holding back deliberately.
In truth, even A’Biao himself was baffled.
Lin Feng’s punch was powerful, yes, but not so much as to force him back like this!
Unless…
He remembered that some martial artists could cultivate true energy, channeling it through flesh and bone to multiply their strength.
“Madam.”
A’Biao actually sheathed his dagger and retreated to her side. “There’s something strange about this one. For your safety, it might be best to avoid further conflict.”
A flash of surprise crossed the woman’s eyes.
She knew A’Biao’s skill and temperament well; in over a decade, there had been only a handful of people who could force him to back down.
Just where did this young man come from?
Her gaze lingered on Lin Feng before she suddenly turned to Su Qingxue. “Why did you bring someone to deal with your brother?”
“Lin Feng is my friend—I didn’t bring him here to deal with Su Shifeng,” Su Qingxue explained quickly. “It was Su Shifeng who barged in and caused trouble. Lin Feng only helped me send him out.”
“Marrying into the Bai family is the family’s decision. What, do you mean to send me, Liu Farong, packing too?”
Her tone rose, an overwhelming pressure silencing Su Qingxue.
Seeing this, Lin Feng interjected, “The Su family just wants to use a marriage alliance to get closer to the Bai family. I actually have a better solution than marrying off Qingxue.”
“Oh? And what business is it of yours, outsider?”
Liu Farong sneered, but recalling A’Biao’s words, she restrained her dominance somewhat. “Go ahead, then—what’s your solution?”
Lin Feng raised his hand and pointed at Su Shifeng, who had just walked in.
“Have him change his surname to Bai and let him be their son, problem solved.”
…
Su Shifeng stopped in his tracks, his face darkening to the color of scorched iron.
Liu Farong’s expression twisted in fury. “Insolence! Su Qingxue, is this the kind of friend you keep?”
“He…”
Su Qingxue lowered her head, but recalling all Lin Feng had done for her, some unknown courage welled up. She looked straight at Liu Farong and declared, “What Lin Feng just said is what I truly feel as well. Mother, no matter what the family decides, I will never marry Bai Tianjiao. Unless you plan to send your daughter’s corpse to him!”
Her voice was not loud, but in the ears of those present, it was unshakably clear.
Even Lin Feng couldn’t help but glance sidelong at her, secretly giving her a thumbs-up.
Liu Farong’s face was a mix of anger and surprise.
There was likely no one who understood this daughter better than herself.
These were not words Su Qingxue would normally say.
“Parents’ orders and matchmakers’ words—it has always been this way,” Liu Farong said, taking a deep breath. “Do you mean to defy your own parents?”
Su Qingxue said nothing, but the resolve in her eyes was answer enough.
A silent standoff settled between mother and daughter.
Abruptly, Liu Farong broke her gaze.
“If you want to break off the engagement, it’s not impossible.”
“Really?”
Su Qingxue’s face lit up, the innocent smile of a little girl breaking through as she exclaimed, “Mother, as long as I don’t have to marry Bai Tianjiao, I’ll agree to anything you say.”
Su Shifeng, however, grew anxious and whispered behind Liu Farong, “Mom, you can’t just let her have her way!”
“If you can secure a contract with Li Ran Group for Su Bank within a week, I can persuade the family to let you break off the engagement with the Bais.”
“Li Ran Group!”
At the mention of that name, Su Qingxue’s smile froze.
But Su Shifeng was instantly elated.
“Forget it, little sister! The president of Li Ran Group is an impossible nut to crack. Not even Father could seal a deal with him, let alone you!”
“Instead of wasting your time, you might as well marry Bai Tianjiao and enjoy your married life, haha!”
Su Qingxue’s face turned bitter, her words faltering.
“Mother, this is too much for me. You…”
“It is you who are making things difficult for the family!”
Liu Farong snapped, regaining control. “If you want the family to change its decision, this is the only way. Otherwise, even if you’re a corpse, you’ll be buried in the Bai family’s ancestral plot!”
Su Qingxue was stunned.
Looking at her mother’s unyielding face, she felt an overwhelming helplessness, as if drowning in a deep sea.
Was this the family she was closest to?
“Are you finished?”
Just as the tension reached its peak, Lin Feng spoke up. “If you’re done, take your useless son and go. Qingxue and I need to tidy up the place; after all, we’ll be busy with Li Ran Group soon and won’t have time for chores.”
Liu Farong’s brows shot up.
Su Qingxue turned in shock, staring at Lin Feng in disbelief.
“Why are you all looking at me like that?”
“It’s just a business negotiation—how hard could it be?”
Lin Feng shrugged, utterly unfazed.
Su Shifeng burst out laughing. “Truly the ignorant know no fear! Fine, let’s see if you’re still so cocky when we marry off Qingxue in a week!”
A mocking glint passed through Liu Farong’s eyes, quickly replaced by cold sternness.
“One week. If you go back on your word, be prepared to face the wrath of the entire Su family!”
“Shifeng, A’Biao, we’re leaving.”
