Chapter 67: Getting What He Deserves
“President Su, if you please.” Zhou Liran, seeing that Su Qingxue had yet to take the stage, extended another warm invitation with a smile.
Su Qingxue snapped out of her reverie, composed herself, and accepted the speech that Lin Feng had prepared for her. She dabbed away her tears and ascended the stage with poise.
All eyes in the hall were filled with anticipation. Applause rose in waves as she took the stage, the spotlight illuminating her every step. From this day forward, she was not only the most beautiful woman in River City, but also one of its most renowned entrepreneurs.
“What’s going on? Why is it her?” Su Shifeng, who had just stood up, was stunned by the scene before him. All his hopes and expectations were dashed in an instant.
Liu Farong and the Su family matriarch exchanged bewildered glances, utterly lost as to what had happened.
“Shifeng, are you sure you heard correctly? Was this celebration hosted by Chairman Zhou really meant for you?” The old lady could not quite believe Su Shifeng’s words and questioned him with suspicion.
“I swear I didn’t mishear! Chairman Zhou clearly told me that I’d be responsible for the upcoming project. Why is Su Qingxue on stage now?” Su Shifeng shook his head repeatedly. He had invited all the business partners connected to his own enterprises.
If they saw someone else take the stage in his place, wouldn’t it be a complete farce? Wouldn’t he have made fools of all his clients?
Without another word, as Su Qingxue was about to begin her speech, he suddenly stood up and shouted loudly, “Wait! There’s been some mistake!”
A hush fell over the hall.
Every eye turned to Su Shifeng as he hurriedly wheeled himself to the front of the stage and addressed Zhou Liran, “Chairman Zhou, didn’t you say this morning that I would represent the Su family at this celebration?”
“Why is Su Qingxue the one giving the speech now? How can you call her the head of Su Bank? It’s supposed to be me!”
“Sir, do I even know you?” Zhou Liran feigned unfamiliarity, gave him a stern look, and ordered coldly, “Where is security? Who allowed him on stage? Get him out of here at once.”
“Yes, Chairman Zhou!”
Four or five security guards rushed up and promptly carried Su Shifeng away. As he hit the ground, he lost his balance and fell from his wheelchair, his hair in complete disarray.
The matriarch and Liu Farong were utterly humiliated.
The situation was nothing like what Su Shifeng had claimed. Either Chairman Zhou had played him, or he had lied to them.
“Grandmother, you must believe me, I truly didn’t lie to you. This morning, Chairman Zhou clearly—”
Smack!
The old lady’s anger flared. She slapped Su Shifeng so hard that stars danced before his eyes.
“And to think I trusted you so much! How dare you tell such a terrible lie? Do you realize the damage you’ve done to the Su family’s reputation?”
Her trembling finger pointed at him accusingly, her gaze murderous—she looked as though she could kill this unfilial grandson with her own hands.
The Su family had been painstakingly built by the old master, and now, this unworthy descendant was about to destroy it all.
Su Shifeng looked utterly wronged. He had no idea how things had come to this. He tried to explain, but the old lady had lost all faith in him and would not listen.
“Good evening, everyone. I am Su Qingxue, head of Su Bank. It is my great honor to stand here today, and I am deeply grateful to Chairman Zhou for giving me and Su Bank this opportunity for collaboration…” Su Qingxue spoke on stage with elegance and composure, earning praise from the assembled business elite.
Throughout her speech, applause broke out time and again. Standing behind her, Zhou Liran wore a broad smile, nodding with satisfaction.
This, in fact, was the true purpose of his and Lin Feng’s plan. Not only would Su Qingxue shine at this gathering, but more importantly, those who sought to harm her would be utterly disgraced.
Ten minutes later, Su Qingxue finished her speech and stepped down from the stage amidst enthusiastic applause.
Just then, the old lady’s eyes flashed with cold determination. She slammed her hand on the table and rose to declare, “Do not believe a word this woman says! She is utterly incapable of fulfilling this project with Chairman Zhou.”
The crowd’s attention shifted to the matriarch.
Calm and unhurried, she announced, “I am Su Qingxue’s grandmother. I know her character well. Though she is currently head of Su Bank, both her ability and integrity fall far short of what is required for a partnership with Liran Group.”
“The real head of the Su family is my grandson, Su Shifeng.”
“What? That boy who was just dragged out?”
“Impossible. Did Chairman Zhou really make a mistake in choosing his partner?”
The hall erupted in chaos.
Zhou Liran’s face darkened. He had anticipated that the old matriarch might cause trouble at this moment.
Unruffled, he stepped forward and said, “Please, everyone, remain calm. Allow me to address this matter.”
“Madam, I recognize you. You are indeed President Su’s grandmother. But as far as I am aware, all of the Su family’s achievements in recent years have been the result of President Su’s tireless efforts.”
“As for your grandson, Su Shifeng—he is lazy, unmotivated, lacking in virtue, honor, and ambition. He spends his days indulging in food, drink, and frivolity.”
“Do you really expect him to lead the Su family? Does he have any right to do so?”
“What? This—” The old lady was left speechless. She never expected Chairman Zhou to speak so bluntly about her grandson.
But how did he know all this about her grandson?
“Chairman Zhou, this is all a misunderstanding. My Shifeng is not the person you describe. He is hard-working and has contributed much to the Su family. As for Su Qingxue, she—”
“I have irrefutable evidence here. Do you still dare to deny it?”
Zhou Liran cut her off before she could finish, and had photographs of Su Shifeng’s dissolute lifestyle scattered from above.
As the photos fluttered to the ground, everyone in the hall craned their necks to look. Each image was scandalous; some were even taken in bars, awash in garish light.
Instantly, the crowd was filled with disapproval. People shook their heads, sighing, and began to berate Su Shifeng.
With such a wastrel in the family, the Su clan was doomed!
“This… this…” The old lady stared at the photos on the floor, utterly at a loss for words.
Su Shifeng himself was mortified, wishing he could crawl into a hole and disappear.
“Now everyone understands who the true head of the Su family is. This matriarch, blinded by favoritism for her grandson, was willing to turn against her own granddaughter and frame her. Clearly, she is no better than her grandson.”
“Guards! Remove this old lady, Su Shifeng, and their lot. From this day forth, they are never to set foot in Liran Group again.”
With that, Zhou Liran issued a stern command. Several security guards stepped forward at once and escorted the two of them from the hall.
