Chapter 118: Regret Came Too Late
“Master, is what you just said true? The Western medicines these doctors gave have no effect on Old Cao’s illness?” Xu Wenming asked Lin Feng with a grave expression.
He knew well Lin Feng’s medical skills. If Lin Feng was certain that the foreign medicines were useless and had severe side effects, he would have urged Kong Xiuling to stop using them.
Lin Feng smiled calmly. “When have I ever lied to you? But now, even if you speak up, it’s useless. To Mrs. Kong, our traditional Chinese medicine is insignificant. There’s no point in making a fuss.”
Xu Wenming was at a loss. He felt uneasy inside. He couldn’t understand why Kong Xiuling, who usually revered traditional Chinese medicine, would believe the nonsense of these Western doctors in front of them today.
Even if he wanted to persuade her now, the result would likely be the same as Lin Feng said. He could only shake his head helplessly and wait patiently.
He just hoped the potency of these Western medicines wouldn’t be too harsh. If Old Cao were to pass away like this, he would feel he had truly failed him.
While he was worried, the bearded foreign doctor picked up the syringe again and slowly injected the medicine into Old Cao.
Immediately, Old Cao’s body reacted violently—he trembled fiercely twice, his bodily functions instantly restored. He sat up on the bed by himself, his eyes suddenly bright and lively.
“It’s working! Our medicine is working?” The surrounding foreign professors exchanged looks of surprise and nodded approvingly.
Kong Xiuling’s face lit up with joy. She silently thanked her stars for not listening to that boy earlier. Otherwise, Old Cao would truly have passed away by now.
“Old Cao, how do you feel? Are you comfortable?” She ran to his bedside, supporting him as she asked anxiously.
But Old Cao’s consciousness hadn’t returned. It was as if he didn’t recognize her; his eyes didn’t glance at her at all.
Suddenly, Old Cao’s eyes bulged, and he spat out a mouthful of fresh blood!
Before anyone could react, he collapsed and fainted again.
For a moment, everyone was stunned.
“Old Cao! What’s wrong with you? Professor Jess, come quickly! Didn’t you say your medicine would definitely work?” Kong Xiuling panicked, turning to Professor Jess beside her.
Professor Jess’s face grew puzzled; the arrogant smiles of the foreign professors vanished instantly.
He hurriedly approached to reassess Old Cao and found that Old Cao’s heartbeat was now extremely weak—he was on the verge of death.
“How could this be? My medicine can’t be flawed. Why does the patient’s heartbeat weaken so much after injection?” Professor Jess was baffled, unwilling to believe his medicine was to blame.
He had tested the medicine multiple times on lab mice without any issues. The approval certificate was only pending, and it would soon be officially released.
Such a mature product—how could it turn out like this?
Xu Wenming’s heart sank deeply. His worst fears were coming true.
He shook his head sorrowfully and stepped forward, looking at Kong Xiuling. “Sister-in-law, you trusted the wrong people. The one who can truly save Old Cao is Master Lin, but you believed these foreigners instead.”
“What right do they have to be better than Master Lin? This Master Lin is the only one who managed to save General Shen when his life was hanging by a thread—something no doctor worldwide has done.”
“W-what? Is what Old Cao said true?” Kong Xiuling was now in utter panic, unsure what to do.
At that moment, Professor Jess stepped forward again, his face serious. “Mrs. Kong, please give us one more chance. We have one last treatment plan that will definitely save Mr. Cao.”
“However, this treatment will cost more—fifty million.”
“Sister-in-law, don’t believe them anymore. Master Lin is the only one who can save Old Cao. Don’t waste any more time.” Xu Wenming urgently advised.
Kong Xiuling’s head was spinning. On one side was the renowned top-ranked doctor; on the other, internationally famous medical professors. How was she to choose?
After a moment, she looked at the bearded foreigner. “Professor Jess, I’m entrusting my husband to you this time. As long as you save him, I will not treat you unfairly.”
“Of course, Mrs. Kong. We will do our utmost,” Professor Jess said with renewed hope as he conferred with the other Western doctors on a rescue plan.
Xu Wenming was speechless. Despite his sincere persuasion, it was all in vain.
The foreign doctors continued with reagent treatment, but this time the mixture seemed more complex.
They busily worked together, mixing various reagents into a single small vial, shaking it vigorously.
Xu Wenming sighed in frustration, disappointedly looking at Kong Xiuling. “Sister-in-law, you’re truly confused. These foreigners have already harmed Old Cao so badly, yet you still trust them.”
“This isn’t about who pays more; they’re deliberately trying to scam you.”
“Old Cao, don’t speak. I know you mean well, but I absolutely don’t trust that boy’s medical skills. If even you can’t cure Old Cao, how could I believe some inexperienced kid?”
“Rest assured, these medical professors are internationally renowned. I believe they can’t be wrong.”
Kong Xiuling said coldly and patiently waited for Professor Jess’s treatment plan.
Lin Feng watched this scene with quiet amusement.
Just as Professor Jess prepared to inject the reagent into Old Cao, Lin Feng stepped forward. “If you give that injection, Old Cao will bleed from all orifices within a minute, and no divine intervention can save him within three minutes.”
“Shut up, you brat!” Kong Xiuling snapped angrily, turning to shout at him.
She looked Lin Feng up and down with disdain. “Take a good look in the mirror. Don’t think you’re better than Old Xu just because you studied Chinese medicine for two days.”
“If you say one more word, get out immediately.”
“Sister-in-law, please show some respect to my master,” Xu Wenming said coldly as he stepped forward.
Though he called Kong Xiuling sister-in-law, he would never forgive her if she insulted his master.
“Heh, Old Xu, what are you doing? Protecting this kid? I think you came here with bad intentions. If you keep obstructing me, don’t blame me for not showing mercy and kicking both of you out,” Kong Xiuling shouted angrily, showing no respect.
“Hmph!”
Xu Wenming was furious. He bowed respectfully to Lin Feng. “Master, I apologize. Today was my mistake for bringing you here. Let’s leave first.”
“All right,” Lin Feng said, turning to leave with him.
