Chapter 103: Demonstrating Ability
“Believe it or not, if something happens later, don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Lin Feng said coldly. He then turned to Fang Huihui and suggested, “The best course of action now is to bypass this toxic fog area. This poison is highly penetrating; your anti-poison equipment won’t work.”
“Once you come into contact with it, you’ll feel weak all over, dizzy, and even hallucinate. And there must be a poison master nearby controlling these fogs.”
“Hmph, nonsense. We have the most advanced anti-poison devices. Even if there are poisonous insects, we don’t need to worry. As for a poison master, that’s just a fairy tale. If they knew we were here, they would have fled long ago,” sneered the young man from before. He volunteered boldly, looking toward Fang Huihui, “Sister Hui, why don’t I lead some men ahead to scout the path? If there’s no danger, everyone else can continue forward.”
“Well… alright. But if you encounter anything unusual, make sure to retreat immediately,” Fang Huihui hesitated for a few seconds, thinking of her brothers in peril inside. Time was too precious to waste, so she agreed.
Lin Feng frowned deeply and shook his head helplessly. Since they insisted on taking the risk, so be it. The young man then personally selected a few elite subordinates and led them forward.
As soon as they stepped into the area ahead, their footsteps became light. They bent slightly, advancing slowly while staying alert at all times.
This was their professional discipline. All had undergone special training to be ready for combat in any environment.
“Hmph, what can a greenhorn do? He insists there’s danger here, but we’ve come this far without issue. Where’s the danger?”
“Exactly. Sister Hui doesn’t seem herself today—usually she’s so bold, but now she’s brought some pretty boy and turned timid,” they whispered as they walked a few dozen meters with no signs of danger.
Suddenly, one of the men felt a chill underfoot. Looking down, his face turned pale instantly!
“B-brother, help me! Poisonous bugs are on me!”
His shout made the others turn around at once. When they saw him, their expressions turned to horror.
Seven or eight strange-looking poisonous insects were crawling on his body. Their teeth were sharp as twin steel pincers, and their carapaces appeared impenetrably hard.
They were lined up, crawling toward the patrolman’s thigh.
“Don’t panic. Let me deal with them,” the young leader assured confidently, drawing a dagger and carefully approaching the bugs.
But as he neared his comrade, the dagger raised high, the bugs sensed danger and suddenly snapped, biting the man’s leg.
“Ah!”
The man cried out in pain as black blood splattered. The leader’s face was stained with the black blood, and wherever it touched, the skin began to rot, sending searing pain coursing through him.
“My skin! Everyone, retreat quickly! These poisonous bugs are deadly!”
The leader gritted his teeth against the pain, ignoring his own injuries, and ordered a hasty withdrawal.
But as they turned, a dark shadow suddenly leapt from the shadows! Swift as lightning, it landed on one man’s shoulder, drew a poisoned blade, and swiftly stabbed the man’s neck. The man collapsed instantly.
His body turned black and blue, twitching uncontrollably, foam spilling from his mouth as consciousness faded.
The others were thrown into panic. There really was a poison master here, just as Lin Feng had warned!
Judging by the poison master’s skill, he was formidable indeed.
“Hmph, you treacherous cowards! Knowing we have reinforcements yet still daring to show yourselves, today I will personally slaughter you!” the young leader snapped, putting on a fierce front and shouting at the poison master.
“Is that so?” The poison master sneered contemptuously, advancing with his poisoned blade.
“Not good, it’s really a poison master! Provide covering fire immediately! The rest follow me to rescue our men!” Fang Huihui, having spotted the poison master, issued orders. The group split into two: one opened fire wildly to suppress the poison master, while Fang Huihui led the other straight into the woods to save their comrades.
Before leaving, she assigned men to protect Lin Feng.
Lin Feng frowned deeply, watching the poison master in the woods. His mastery of poison arts was remarkable, and his physical prowess was no less extraordinary.
Suddenly, the woods erupted into a hail of bullets.
The poison master used the trees as cover, fixing his gaze on Fang Huihui, who was leading the charge.
A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he twirled the poisoned blade, ready to strike.
“Hmph, kid, you think you can take me on?” The poison master scoffed. As bullets flew past, he dodged with lightning speed, closing the distance to Fang Huihui.
Unaware of the danger, Fang Huihui relied on the covering fire behind her, steadily advancing toward the trapped comrades.
Suddenly—swish!
A poisoned dagger flew out from the shadows, aimed straight at her neck!
Her expression tightened. She spun around, bending backward just in time to dodge the blade!
But before she could recover, the poison master charged forward with a powerful swing of his thick arm, striking her abdomen.
Fang Huihui’s face flickered with panic. She hadn’t fully regained her footing when a sharp pain shot through her belly and she was knocked to the ground.
The poison master grabbed her throat with one hand, pressing the poisoned blade against her neck.
“Kid, your skills are nothing. It’s a pity you fell into my hands today. I’ll make this quick!” he sneered arrogantly, raising the blade high and plunging it toward her throat.
Fang Huihui’s eyes widened. She never imagined she’d perish at the hands of a poison master.
Closing her eyes, she felt no fear in her final moments.
But just as she had given up hope, a harsh metallic clash rang in her ears. The blade was released, and she collapsed to the ground!
Coughing violently, she opened her eyes to see Lin Feng charging toward her like a leopard.
The metallic sound she heard was the shell casing Lin Feng had picked up from the ground, flicked against the poisoned blade to deflect it.
Lin Feng?
Fang Huihui stared in shock, wondering how Lin Feng could have moved so swiftly.
