Chapter 17: Serenity
Well, damn, they locked him outside... Without a word, Chen Fan opened the door to see Ye Xiu standing there with a dark expression. He gave a sheepish grin.
“Sorry, I forgot about you.”
Ye Xiu could only laugh wryly, sighing as he stepped in. He had come here with two intentions. First, to introduce Li Dazhuang to Chen Fan. Second, to ask for Chen Fan’s help regarding Ares.
“Mad Dragon, here’s the situation.” Chen Fan gestured for Ye Xiu to sit as he brought over two cups of tea. Ye Xiu took a sip before speaking.
“We’ve already coordinated with the airport. If Ares dares to show up tomorrow, the Dragon Squad members will immediately lock down the perimeter. Our primary target is the Continental man.”
Chen Fan raised an eyebrow with a teasing smirk.
“Are you sure Ares is from the Continent? Maybe he’s from the Dragon Nation.”
Ye Xiu slapped his thigh.
“You’re right! That’s a good point, Mad Dragon—you’ve reminded me. I’ll report this to our superiors right away and ask for confirmation on Ares’s true identity.”
Chen Fan clicked his tongue, grabbing a banana to eat.
“No need to check. He’s a Continental man. I know.”
Ye Xiu was speechless.
Damn it, Mad Dragon! One Dragon Nation man shouldn’t trick another! This is a bit much...
Li Dazhuang was almost doubled over with laughter. This Chen Fan was truly amusing! He liked people like this—humorous, interesting, and capable.
At this point, Chen Fan had thoroughly piqued Li Dazhuang’s interest.
“I’m only reminding you, when your Dragon Squad prepares for this operation, don’t take anything for granted. Let me put it plainly—if you compare the combat strength on both sides, the Twelve Guardians are about evenly matched with the elite members of the Heavenly Team. But Ares? He could take out a kid with a single punch.”
“So you’d better hurry up and get someone from your Dragon Gate.”
Dragon Gate!
Li Dazhuang was stunned. This man actually knew about Dragon Gate?
Dragon Squad was the core defensive force of the Dragon Nation. But Dragon Gate—those were the geniuses among geniuses within the Dragon Squad!
Their strength far exceeded that of regular Dragon Squad members. There were only twenty spots in Dragon Gate, and no more—if one left, another could join. Otherwise, you’d have to force your way in by sheer strength.
Li Dazhuang, though a top-tier member of Dragon Squad, knew full well he was a long, long way from qualifying for Dragon Gate.
“Mad Dragon, we’re doing our best to contact the Dragon Gate members. But you know, they’re already buried in heavy assignments. So...”
Chen Fan’s heart skipped a beat.
Damn, they’re playing me!
From the trace of regret in Ye Xiu’s expression, Chen Fan understood. Ye Xiu held some guilt toward him... Why? Because, in this affair, Chen Fan was being used by Dragon Squad’s upper ranks!
Why not send in someone from Dragon Gate? The higher-ups knew Chen Fan had covered Ye Xiu’s squad’s retreat alone. With someone like him facing Ares, even if he couldn’t win, he could hold him off, right? As long as he stalled, Ares wouldn’t dare act recklessly in the Dragon Nation and would likely flee.
Besides, Chen Fan was certain to step in—after all, it was his sister involved.
What a well-calculated move!
“Ye Xiu, if you ask me, you should quit this job and come work as a security guard at my eldest sister’s company. Your higher-ups are too scheming—I worry they’ll start docking your salary next.”
Chen Fan didn’t take offense—no need. Anger wouldn’t solve anything. But he wasn’t about to let them get something for nothing, either.
Without waiting for Ye Xiu to reply, Chen Fan continued, “I believe there are more than one former Heavenly Team members like Dazhuang.”
“I need two more. The requirements: absolutely top-tier quality, and no hidden agendas. One year!”
“You agree, I’ll take out Ares for you.”
Chen Fan grinned at Ye Xiu.
“Deal, Mad Dragon. It’s settled. I’ll have Dazhuang pick up those two immediately. They’ll report to you this afternoon.”
Chen Fan nodded. Clearly, Dragon Squad had already made preparations. His request wasn’t unreasonable.
He glanced at his watch—ten o’clock. According to his eldest sister, his fourth sister should be arriving in Huajiang about now.
“All right, you guys go ahead. And drop me off at the Treasure Pavilion on your way.”
Without another word, Chen Fan hopped into the car with Ye Xiu.
Hitching a ride! Looks like... it’s about time to buy a car. Getting around was too inconvenient otherwise.
As Chen Fan got out and waved goodbye to Ye Xiu, a graceful figure suddenly caught his eye.
Wow!
Her presence was ethereal, almost like a maiden from a painting of a riverside town—stunningly beautiful, radiating gentle warmth. She turned slightly, and her gaze made all the men around widen their eyes in amazement.
She was simply captivating.
Already, a rich young man had approached her.
“Miss, are you headed to the Treasure Pavilion? If you need anything, I can buy it for you.”
The woman just smiled softly. The beauty mark beneath her eye only enhanced her charm.
“No need, I can afford it myself.”
Her refusal was gentle but left no room for further advances.
Chen Fan was already dumbstruck—not because of her looks, but because he recognized that beauty mark.
This was his fourth sister, Li Youran!
He strode quickly over, standing in front of her.
“Miss, you have an extraordinary aura. May I read your fortune?”
As Chen Fan approached, the group of men standing by snickered.
Bro, you’re the shabbiest dressed among us, and you still stepped up? If you succeed, we’ll live-stream ourselves eating five electric fans a day!
Sure enough, just as they expected.
Li Youran smiled softly, her response gentle.
“Sir, I’m sorry. I don’t need that.”
