Chapter 63: Deployment
“You’re the one who’s sick!” Chen Yuanyuan hissed under her breath. “And don’t you dare look at me there again!” She was exasperated—how could this man be so infuriating? Even if he wanted to sneak a glance at her, did he have to accuse her of being unwell?
“Believe whatever you want.” Zhang Xiaofan shook his head helplessly. With his bizarre medical skills, he could determine a person’s health condition with just a glance at their complexion and a feel for the rhythm of their breathing. He wasn’t so noble as to treat anyone he met on the street; a friendly warning was already more than enough, and that was only because Chen Yuanyuan was a beautiful woman.
“Can you tell me now why Captain Wang treats you with such courtesy?” Chen Yuanyuan was clearly annoyed.
“You want to know?” Zhang Xiaofan grinned. “Kiss me, and I’ll tell you.”
“In your dreams.” Chen Yuanyuan glared at him, thinking this man was truly shameless.
Meanwhile, Lin Sixue and her sister both watched Zhang Xiaofan from across the room. They didn’t need to guess; in their minds, Zhang Xiaofan was definitely flirting with this beautiful policewoman.
For some reason, Lin Siyu felt a pang of jealousy in her chest. Could it be that she really liked this little rascal?
“Heh, in the end, I’m just lucky to have met you, my friend. If you hadn’t saved me, I’d already be dead by now,” said Feng Qingyang. “Being able to fight alongside you this time is truly something I look forward to.”
“Old Feng, you look well,” Zhang Xiaofan remarked.
Feng Qingyang smiled gently and nodded at Zhang Xiaofan. “It’s been a while, my friend.”
At that moment, another familiar figure approached—it was none other than Feng Qingyang from Jinghai University.
Chen Guoping nodded, and someone quickly brought Zhang Xiaofan the equipment.
“All right, give me a tracker and a mini communicator. When it’s time to act, I’ll signal you. If you don’t hear from me, no one does anything. These people—if we fail once, it will be nearly impossible to find them again,” Zhang Xiaofan instructed.
Who exactly was this young man?
Everyone in the hall was curious why Chen Guoping was being so respectful, and it seemed the whole operation was being led by this young man.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Zhang. My granddaughter will go with you—she’s a doctorate in psychology. There’s no problem,” Chen Guoping assured him.
“That could work.” Zhang Xiaofan nodded. “But is the female officer going with me up to the task? These people are not ordinary—if she slips even a little, the consequences could be dire.”
“We’ve already drafted a plan. You and a female officer will go in undercover, find out what you can, and if possible, take out their leader. Then our assault team will move in to eliminate the remaining criminals and evacuate civilians—damage control is our top priority,” Chen Guoping continued.
“They’re at a bar downtown—a crowded place. These people are likely armed, so a direct assault could cause heavy civilian casualties,” Chen Guoping explained.
“Where are they now?” Zhang Xiaofan skipped the pleasantries and got straight to the point.
“Hello.” Zhang Xiaofan shook hands politely.
“Mr. Zhang, I’m Chen Guoping.” As he drew near, the older man reached out warmly.
“Please, come in.” Old Chen’s expression shifted as he made a welcoming gesture.
This elder was exactly who Zhang Xiaofan had come to see—the man in charge here.
A middle-aged man whispered into the old man’s ear, “He’s here, sir.”
This place was filled with giant monitors and rows of supercomputers, flashing images across the screens.
They reached the fifth floor, passing through three coded doors before stopping in a vast hall.
“Please follow me.” Hearing these words, the receptionist immediately gestured for him to follow and led Zhang Xiaofan upstairs.
“Zhang Xiaofan.”
“And you are?” The receptionist was a young policewoman in her twenties, with average looks.
Upon entering the hall, Zhang Xiaofan went straight to the reception desk.
“Take me to see Mr. Chen.”
After hanging up, Zhang Xiaofan drove for another half hour and finally arrived at the police bureau.
“Wait for me at the city police station,” Zhang Xiaofan instructed. As a member of Dragon Soul, Feng Qingyang could be a great help.
“Xiaofan, it’s Feng Qingyang. I’ve been ordered to fully support you. Where should we meet?” Feng Qingyang had called.
“Hello, who’s this?” Zhang Xiaofan answered the call from an unfamiliar number while on the road.
He was driving Lin Siyu’s freshly repaired Cayenne, heading straight to the mission. This was no trivial matter—he needed to make proper arrangements.
First, he had to determine the number of people involved, then the deployment strategy—how to catch them all in one fell swoop.
Everyone knew these people wouldn’t be easy to kill, hence the elaborate plan—no one would be foolish enough to just storm in with a group.
Zhang Xiaofan made a call to Lin Haonan on the way, arranging for tonight’s operation.
At the same time, Lin Haonan mentioned there’d be a female officer going with him—disguised as a couple, the two of them would infiltrate the mysterious group.
Zhang Xiaofan didn’t comment, only hoping they’d send someone attractive; if he ended up paired with someone unpleasant, the act would be hard to pull off.
Soon, Lin Haonan had everything in place, giving Zhang Xiaofan full command over a strong team.
Reluctantly, Zhang Xiaofan turned away, disappearing from Lin Siyu’s sight.
“I’m leaving.”
Though he always acted like a ruffian, when it came to matters of the heart, Zhang Xiaofan found himself lost.
Could he really accept Lin Siyu? He didn’t know.
She reminded him of the girl he once loved—who had cared for him just like this, but later brought him deep pain.
For a moment, Zhang Xiaofan was stunned, feeling as if the shackles on his heart had loosened just a little.
Such a simple phrase, yet so warm.
Lin Siyu, like a gentle woman, reminded her man to be careful.
“Stop joking around—be careful out there,” Lin Siyu said, stepping forward to straighten his clothes. Her voice was gentle, “I’ll be waiting for you.”
Her expression had been so serious and alluring, but in the next instant, Zhang Xiaofan’s teasing grin returned.
“Don’t worry, I’m tough—I’ll be fine. If anything happens to me, who will protect you, Sister Lin?” he joked.
“You take care too,” Lin Siyu replied sincerely.
Twice now, he had put Lin Siyu in danger because of his own affairs. He still felt guilty toward her.
When they reached the villa, Zhang Xiaofan’s concern was genuine; for once, his eyes were clear and his care heartfelt.
“Be careful at home—lock all doors and windows.”
…
“My task is to seize the Divine Pill and escort it back safely. I won’t be involved in anything else. Of course, if he tries to stop us, I’ll help you and we’ll end him,” the man said coldly.
That was why he was determined to kill Zhang Xiaofan.
He took pride in his mastery of forbidden sorcery, yet Zhang Xiaofan had unraveled his spell—an unforgivable humiliation and a threat that had to be eliminated.
“Fine, we’ll do as you say. But if we get the Divine Pill, I hope you’ll join me in finishing off that brat. For him to break my spell—he cannot be left alive,” Leng Lishang said, murderous intent in his eyes.
“If we don’t get the pill, killing him is pointless. Besides, if we fail to kill him, Lin Haonan will send more experts—acting rashly will only alert the enemy,” Blade replied.
“I’ve never been so frustrated. Why don’t we just kill him? With you and me together, we should be able to manage it. He killed the Poison Master—if we kill him, we’ll be rewarded when we return,” Leng Lishang argued.
“That won’t be necessary. If he gets in our way, we’ll send him to hell,” Blade said in a low voice.
“We’ve just arrived in Jinghai and have already been noticed. He’ll likely get involved. Are we supposed to hide from him?” Leng Lishang asked.
“This man’s spiritual power is pure. At the same level, you’re no match for him. I can’t see through his strength at all. Unless I fight him, I won’t know his true power,” Blade answered.
“Is he really that strong?” Leng Lishang asked, his voice tense.
To be precise, Leng Lishang was already at the peak of the Opening Spirit stage, just a step away from the mid-stage.
Blade’s presence wasn’t mentioned in the files, but judging by his tone, his strength surpassed that of Leng Lishang.
Blade’s face was grim. “With your initial Opening Spirit power, you’re no match—even I can’t be sure. Our goal is the Divine Pill, so it’s best not to provoke him and risk failure.”
The man called Blade was the crew-cut man sitting beside him. He was about thirty, exuding a chilling aura even while still, his eyes glinting with a blood-red light.
If Zhang Xiaofan had seen him, he would recognize Leng Lishang from the files.
After Zhang Xiaofan left, a Bentley pulled up. Inside, a man in his thirties glared with murderous intent.
Wang Yong and the others stayed behind to handle the scene, while Zhang Xiaofan took the car arranged by Lin Siyu and returned to the villa.
As for himself, this kind of crash wouldn’t kill him, only injure him.
He had to thank Old Master Ye for the car—without it, Lin Siyu and her sister might have died today.
Before long, a tow truck arrived to haul the Hummer away for repairs, just as Lin Siyu had arranged. Zhang Xiaofan had nothing else to worry about.
Chen Yuanyuan chatted with Zhang Xiaofan for a while longer, but feeling she might explode from annoyance, she finally left.
