Chapter 119: The Formidable Star Radiant Warrior
Chapter 119: The Mighty Stellar Warrior
With a surge of divine mental force, Xia Zheng was propelled forward, surprising nearly everyone. In the next moment, he had already landed amidst the horde of zombies—surrounded by tens of thousands of them.
Within the human defensive line holding back the zombie army, Luo Bing, Liu Chuxing, Sam, and Alfred all landed one after another, swiftly climbing onto the human fortifications. Yet, there was no trace of Xia Zheng anywhere, as if a stone had been cast into the sea without causing a single ripple.
“That idiot,” Luo Bing muttered, her tone harsh but conveying more than mere anger to Liu Chuxing and the others. In just a few short minutes, Xia Zheng had left an impression on the stellar warriors like a brilliant, fleeting meteor.
The human forces quickly shook off their brief shock and resumed their defense. Against zombies who charged blindly forward, the soldiers simply kept firing relentlessly. No one knew how long the battle had raged, but beneath the hastily constructed fortifications, piles of shattered and crushed zombies littered the ground, growing ever thicker and emitting a nauseating stench. Though the troops appeared accustomed to the odor, their faces betrayed their discomfort.
However, when mutated zombies began to emerge within the horde, casualties among the human ranks spiked sharply, especially along the northern and eastern defense lines.
At two points, the defenses had been breached, allowing hundreds of zombies to pour into the camp. Though reinforcements soon quelled the breach, some soldiers had been infected. To prevent the spread, certain officers had been forced to shoot infected soldiers who could not be saved.
This harsh measure had unforeseen consequences, sowing distrust among the troops—not only toward their commanders but also among comrades. Soldiers who suspected they were infected hesitated to report their symptoms, leading to several cases of concealed injuries and collective disciplinary actions, casting a strange pall over the camp’s atmosphere.
In response, Song Ze swiftly revised the strategy: all soldiers suspected of infection were to be transported back to Eternal Night City for treatment. Regardless of the outcome, no extreme or reckless measures would be taken. The military command pledged to ensure every soldier received care rather than being abandoned.
This approach finally quelled the dreadful mood within the camp, restoring morale and combat effectiveness. Yet the mutated zombies had already cost the human forces hundreds, even thousands of lives. Even the elite gene warriors struggled to hold the line, many retreating wounded to the rear for treatment.
At this critical juncture, Luo Bing and the three other stellar warriors appeared—alongside Xia Zheng. Had Xia Zheng’s dramatic entrance not drawn all eyes, these four might well have been humanity’s true last hope.
“Mutated zombies spotted at 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, and 9 o’clock,” Luo Bing said as she surveyed the battlefield through her binoculars, aided by a nearby officer’s report. “Liu Chuxing, you take the 1 o’clock position. Alfred, you’re on 2 o’clock. Sam, handle 9 o’clock. I’ll deal with the two at 12 o’clock.”
There were about a dozen mutated zombies scattered across the battlefield, mostly still lingering on the outskirts. The sheer volume of ordinary zombies had effectively stalled the mutated ones, causing them to arrive at the front lines in staggered waves.
“Yes, Captain,” Liu Chuxing and the others responded immediately, setting off without hesitation. Luo Bing seemed entirely unconcerned about the dangers they might face.
At 1 o’clock, a towering beast zombie loomed—a grotesque hybrid, its torso that of a beast and its lower half human, as if crudely stitched together. Towering over five meters tall, it bulldozed forward, impatiently flinging aside any common zombies blocking its path, resembling a monstrous snowplow.
With the support of allied gunfire, Liu Chuxing let out a fierce roar, bursting from the fortifications. He tore open his shirt, releasing a wild, beast-like howl. His body swelled rapidly, transforming into a massive white ape nearly ten meters tall—a giant of sheer strength.
Sensing the threat from Liu’s transformation, the half-beast zombie quickened its pace, charging straight at him.
“Beast, just in time. Grandpa’s itching for a fight,” Liu Chuxing growled, his white ape form accelerating. Between these two colossal creatures, the smaller zombies were nothing but weeds, crushed beneath their thunderous steps—dozens of zombies flattened with each stride.
Boom!
The two monsters collided with equal force, sending all zombies within a ten-meter radius flying. A vast swath of undead collapsed, and the soldiers along the defensive line felt their field of vision clear for the first time in ages. Cheers erupted, morale soaring.
At 2 o’clock, Alfred advanced clad in dazzling armor that shimmered with silver light. His helmeted visage resembled an ancient knight, while his feet had been modified with wheels spewing blue flames, propelling him forward like a roaring motorcycle toward a rare female mutated zombie.
This mutant was more diminutive, standing about 1.8 meters tall, retaining distinctly feminine curves that drew the eye. Yet atop her neck sprouted two heads—one large adult female and one smaller girl’s head, fused into one body.
Thus, this zombie possessed two heads and four arms, though only two legs. Each hand wielded a different weapon: sword, blade, gun, and axe. Had she been a martial artist in life?
Alfred charged forward, gripping a silver spear of extraordinary design. The weapon was not only razor-sharp and durable but also modular—capable of firing bullets and cannon blasts, transforming into a throwable bomb with explosive force. This was his signature weapon, crafted by himself, along with dozens of unique bombs of devastating power.
Moreover, the spear could project an energy beam, greatly extending its range. Besides the spear, Alfred also carried a top-tier long blade on his back.
As he sprinted, his spear slashed horizontally, energy beams activated. Rows of zombies were cleaved in two or decapitated. Like a scythe through fields of weeds, he swept forward. The soldiers behind roared in approval once more. The zombie horde, confused by the sudden assault of Liu and Alfred, faltered. Lacking intelligence or will beyond following their front-line comrades, two—if not three—zombie groups suddenly turned, chasing after the three stellar warriors.
Muscular Sam wielded a shield with one arm, while his other, mechanically enhanced arm delivered over two hundred powerful punches per minute. Each strike either shattered the zombie’s skull or sent it flying into its companions, causing gruesome explosions upon impact.
The pressure on the defenders eased dramatically as they concentrated fire to repel the other dense zombie clusters.
Standing atop the fortifications, Luo Bing nodded with satisfaction. She then retrieved a heavy sniper rifle from a rectangular case behind her. The weapon’s size and weight drew gasps from nearby soldiers; its glossy black barrel gleamed like a drawn sword.
The bullets were like miniature grenades—enough to make one’s scalp tingle.
“Now it’s your turn, you two bastards,” she said, dropping into a prone position. Under the watchful eyes of countless soldiers, Luo Bing, clad in sleek battle armor, slipped into sniper mode, targeting the closer of the two mutated zombies at 12 o’clock.
Bang!
The bullet flew forth like thunder and blazing dawn…
