Lu Sheng’s words left the three of them speechless, as if a breath had lodged in their throats and would not come out.
The Desert Giant showed signs of wanting to flee, but when the three still made no move to step aside, Lu Sheng barked coldly at once, “Are you trying to stop me? Then don’t blame me for getting rough!”
At that, every monster under Lu Sheng’s command moved as one, and the air at once turned taut with murderous intent.
The broad-shouldered man with the giant cleaver gave a hard snort. “Fine. We’ll meet again someday, and then we’ll see.”
After throwing down his threat, he left without the slightest hesitation. The other two exchanged a look and departed as well, unwilling though they were.
Lu Sheng had revealed too much. They simply did not dare act rashly.
Being able to summon so many fifth-tier monsters could mean only one thing: the man before them was powerful, at the very least a fifth-tier expert. Otherwise, why would he expend such enormous resources raising so many monsters if he himself were not even fifth-tier?
Moreover, against so many fifth-tier monsters, even if the three of them joined forces, they would not stand a chance.
If they did not retreat, were they supposed to stay and die?
Seeing the one who had left after hurling threats, Lu Sheng felt a flash of displeasure. “You’d better keep your eyes open from now on. If you’re going to provoke me, at least dig your grave first.”
The burly man’s steps faltered, and he glanced at the fifth-tier army gathered before Lu Sheng.
Forget it.
Best to follow his heart.
This was not cowardice. This was simply obeying one’s true feelings.
Watching the three depart, Lu Sheng immediately ordered his army to surround the Desert Giant.
The giant’s massive frame was imposing and formidable. If goblins and frogmen, those little things, were struck by a single blow from it, they would be swatted away like flies.
Lu Sheng only dared to let the goblins and frogmen encircle it; the actual assault was left to the giant crocodile and the stone-throwing goblins.
These two monsters were his main means of attacking the Desert Giant.
A water cannon gathered in the giant crocodile’s mouth, while the stone-throwing goblins struck first, hurling three searing, detonating red stones.
By then, the Desert Giant was already covered in wounds. From the gashes in its body, only grains of sand flowed out.
Faced with the three incoming red stones, the giant raised its arm to block them.
Its massive arm slammed into the stones, and the instant the two sides made contact, the red stones exploded.
Three fresh cavities appeared in the Desert Giant’s arm.
The force of the blast was so immense that the holes looked deep and enormous, not small wounds even on a creature as large as the giant.
The Desert Giant counterattacked, using its enormous body as its greatest weapon.
It swung its hand down viciously at the goblins and frogmen circling it.
Faced with that sky-darkening blow, the goblins and frogmen hurried to evade, but even so one goblin had half its body smashed away.
Before that goblin’s last breath ran out, Lu Sheng quickly ordered a frogman to stab it to death.
The card returned to his hand.
Of course, the card appeared on his true body, not on this scarecrow clone.
As soon as the Desert Giant finished that strike, the giant crocodile’s water cannon had also finished gathering. The huge sphere of water blasted toward the giant.
The Desert Giant’s massive body was too slow to evade, so it could only take the hit head-on.
It threw a punch at the water shot.
The two collided in midair, and the water sphere’s force was still considerable. It drove the Desert Giant back again and again before sending it crashing to the ground.
Seizing the opening, Lu Sheng ordered the goblins and frogmen to attack with everything they had.
The frogmen and goblins did not hesitate in the slightest. The instant Lu Sheng gave the command, they lunged for the Desert Giant’s head.
The giant tried to struggle to its feet, but even if the frogmen and goblins were weak by comparison, they were still fifth-tier monsters. Under a full-force assault, the Desert Giant could only be smashed back to the ground with a heavy thud.
Once a hit landed, the advantage had to be pressed.
At that moment, the Desert Giant swept both hands horizontally toward its head.
Some unlucky goblins and frogmen were struck and sent flying at once.
Lu Sheng had no time to worry about them. He ordered the remaining frogmen and goblins to keep attacking.
Spears thrust straight in.
Staves jabbed hard.
The Desert Giant’s eye sockets... its mouth... its ears...
Every opening it had received special attention.
Some frogmen failed to seize those spots and could only brace their spears and drive them hard into the giant’s forehead.
If there was no hole, then they would make one.
In an instant, the Desert Giant’s head was pounded into a bloody ruin.
Like a final flash before death, the Desert Giant suddenly lifted its head and roared to the sky. Then it sprang up from the ground, and countless grains of sand rose from the earth, swirling around its body.
Although a hole could clearly be seen straight through its head, it still refused to die.
And at that moment, the Desert Giant looked extremely dangerous.
A storm of sand began to whirl around it, growing stronger and stronger. Lu Sheng sensed that something was wrong.
Was it about to unleash a finishing move?
That would not do.
No longer concerned with losses, he ordered every monster to charge the Desert Giant at once. The small underlings could be remade if lost.
The goblins entered a berserk state.
All attributes increased by twenty percent.
They battered at the giant’s legs in a savage frenzy.
The frogmen leaped high, using their powerful springing ability to strike at the Desert Giant’s knees.
Their spears hardened and thrust out.
The Desert Giant flailed wildly, sandstorm power coiling around its body and surging with each movement, crashing into goblins and frogmen alike and knocking them aside.
The earth-bears and the giant crocodile also rushed in.
If the giant crocodile’s thirty-meter-long body could stand upright, it would have looked even larger than the Desert Giant. Sadly, it could not stand upright, but even so, its close-combat ability was beyond doubt.
It lunged in and swung its tail with all its might.
The Desert Giant jumped aside to avoid the blow, even reaching out as if to seize the giant crocodile’s tail. At that moment, the earth-bear charged forward and slammed into the Desert Giant with all its strength.
Despite the difference in size, and despite its severe injuries, the Desert Giant still managed to match the earth-bear blow for blow.
But that also meant the giant had already lost.
It was not facing only the earth-bear.
Three explosive red stones streaked across the sky and landed with pinpoint accuracy on the Desert Giant’s head.
Three huge holes were blown straight through its skull, and its body began to sway.
At full strength, the Desert Giant would never have allowed such an attack to strike its head. But now it was already in the throes of death, struggling on by sheer force of will.
Seeing it suffer a grievous blow and begin to totter, the giant crocodile and earth-bear seized the chance as well.
They surged in for the kill.
The giant crocodile leapt, its entire body spinning in the air before smashing viciously into the Desert Giant and knocking it clean off its feet.
The earth-bear dropped to all fours and climbed swiftly to the giant’s head, then brought down both massive paws with crushing force.
This time, the Desert Giant had no chance of survival.
Its head was smashed completely to pieces by the earth-bear’s blow, and its entire body scattered into sand, losing all trace of the giant it had been.
One special grain of sand hovered in midair, along with a fifth-tier source orb and a card.
This Desert Giant had dropped three items in all.
The most important was the shifting sand.
Lu Sheng hurriedly rode the Cloud Horse to the Desert Giant’s corpse.
He took the three dropped items without checking them, first tidied the battlefield, and withdrew.
All the wounded, all the broken-armed and broken-legged ones were killed and turned into new cards, their injuries swiftly restored. He was sure these fellows would appreciate that method as well.
It was just that he did not know whether goblins who had used berserk transformation and then turned back into cards would return in full condition. If so, then perhaps he could cultivate some monsters with desperate, all-or-nothing abilities.
If a monster committed suicide, did that count as him killing it?
Shaking off the thought, he then turned the remaining healthy monsters back into cards.
Once that was done, Lu Sheng mounted the Cloud Horse and quickly left the area.
The commotion had been too great; no matter what, he was not so careless as to stay behind and inspect his spoils here.
Something like that could wait until he was on the road.
