Chapter Twenty: The Great Battle with the Two-Headed Serpent
This time, six battle squads from their entire settlement had been mobilized, leaving only one guard team behind. Their orders were simple: enter the dungeon and scavenge freely, as long as they prioritized survival. If luck favored them, perhaps they would find something valuable.
Nearly six hundred people entered the dungeon space, splitting up into ten-person teams and dispersing throughout. As soon as they set foot inside, they sensed a terrifying battle raging deep within the jungle. Even at the entrance, they could feel the aftermath of the conflict.
The dungeon was a gently sloping mountain, not steep overall, with trees thick in some areas and sparse in others. Shi Jiu led his team along the outskirts, moving with utmost caution. Resources weren’t theirs simply by picking them up—only survival made them truly belong.
Meanwhile, a squad clad in uniforms adorned with flame patterns marched straight toward the depths. There were twenty in this group, all second-tier elites, led by Li Kuang, who urged them forward. “Hurry up. If we’re blamed by the Flowing Fire Gang later, we won’t be able to bear the consequences…”
With his command, the squad picked up their pace, the underbrush rustling as they pressed on.
Half an hour earlier—
“Boss, we’ve found the dungeon boss,” a member of the Flowing Fire Gang reported to Fei Liuhuo. His eyes lit up. “Quick, move at full speed! Kill the boss fast, don’t let those troublemakers from the Heavenly Blade Gang interfere.”
The Flowing Fire Gang advanced swiftly in one direction, unaware that a tiny insect was closely trailing them.
Not far behind, the Heavenly Blade Gang was assembled. One member, having made some discovery, spoke up, “Boss, they’ve found the boss’s location.” Yan Dao narrowed his eyes, “Good, let’s go. Stay close—we’re going to throw a wrench in their plans this time.”
A companion hesitated, “Boss, isn’t this a thankless task…”
Before he could finish, Yan Dao shot him a cold look. “Do I need your advice? Speak out again and I won’t overlook it.”
“Hmph!” Yan Dao snorted, silencing the group.
By now, Fei Liuhuo had already brought his men before the boss.
“A two-headed snake, green quality, mid-fourth tier, at least two skills. Be careful—ranged attacks first to wear it down,” Fei Liuhuo instructed as soon as he saw the boss. Though this wasn’t a game, it bore some resemblance: when the strongest creature in a dungeon died, loot was guaranteed, though what dropped depended purely on luck.
The two-headed snake stretched a full twenty meters, its massive body reacting instantly to the encircling intruders. Flicking its tongues, it hissed—a clear signal of attack. In the next moment, it slithered toward the crowd, intent on killing.
The gang members coordinated expertly. Those targeted by the snake’s assault immediately retreated, while others intensified their firepower, unleashing a barrage of ranged attacks that left the snake in agony. It writhed and hissed, trying to lessen its pain.
But the fifty third-tier elites from the Flowing Fire Gang weren’t just scratching its itch—their attacks were formidable. It was no easy feat for the two-headed snake to strike them.
Under relentless assault, the snake grew furious. It raised both massive heads and spat a toxic orb and a water orb.
“Dodge!” Fei Liuhuo called from above.
As the two energy projectiles hurtled toward them, the group scattered quickly.
Boom! Boom!
The projectiles exploded where the crowd had been moments earlier, sending unlucky members reeling and spitting blood from the blast’s shockwave. The snake always targeted densely packed areas, and even escaping required precious seconds.
The battle immediately boiled into a fever pitch. The Flowing Fire Gang unleashed their full firepower, tearing new wounds into the snake’s body—some so deep that pale, tender flesh was visible. Fei Liuhuo, seeing the boss was nearly weakened enough, stepped into the fray himself.
With Fei Liuhuo—a late fourth-tier powerhouse—joining the fight, the outcome would soon be decided. His life card was a fire-breathing lizard, which could be summoned or fused with his body. He chose fusion. Each blow he struck carried the effect of fire.
At fourth tier, Fei Liuhuo’s physical prowess was formidable. Facing the two-headed snake alone, his flaming fists drove it into constant shrieks. The Flowing Fire Gang had ceased their attacks; their task was to weaken the boss, and now it was Fei Liuhuo’s turn.
Each flaming punch charred wounds black upon the snake’s body.
The two-headed snake kept spitting energy projectiles at Fei Liuhuo, but none found their mark. Its current miserable state was little more than a desperate struggle.
Just as Fei Liuhuo was about to deliver the final blow, a transparent blade of energy slashed toward him. The angle was cunning, the power immense—if he continued his attack, his arm would be severed. He had no choice but to retreat.
The moment the attack appeared, Fei Liuhuo knew who had arrived. Despite his deep frustration, he could only fall back.
He tried again to strike the snake with a punch, but another familiar blade of energy flew over. Whoever was launching these attacks was determined to keep him from killing the boss.
Fei Liuhuo steadied himself, realizing he’d lost his chance. From the direction of the blade’s arrival, a squad approached.
Yan Dao strolled up with a grin. “This two-headed snake is my prey—I’ve searched for it for ages. Are you trying to steal my catch?”
Such shameless words could be uttered without hesitation, and Fei Liuhuo’s rage soared. “You must be my long-lost son—now that we’ve met, are you refusing to call me father?”
The Flowing Fire Gang burst out laughing. “So it’s our young master—hurry and call him father!”
The smile faded from Yan Dao’s face. “Attack! Kill these dogs!”
Yan Dao was truly furious—when had these trash dared to ridicule him?
A torrent of power surged from his body as he gripped his long blade, unleashing several blades of energy at the Flowing Fire Gang.
Fei Liuhuo rushed forward, countering with several fire-infused punches to block Yan Dao’s assault.
Their attacks collided midair, unleashing fierce energy shockwaves.
Fei Liuhuo sneered, “You’re only good at bullying the weak—how pathetic that you dare make a move.”
Yan Dao said nothing, his darkening expression showing true anger.
Both sides clashed, king against king, champion against champion, and the battle erupted instantly.
Meanwhile, the dungeon boss, who had been the focus, now lay on the ground like a mere spectator, gasping for air.
