Chapter 105: Seeking Death!
Lu Sheng picked up the items dropped by the Flame Werewolf Leader and turned to see six or seven people flying toward the enormous red-leaf tree. Their target was the Redfire Fruit.
After all his hard work defeating the boss, now someone wanted to snatch the loot. Could he possibly tolerate that?
Those people had already reached the base of the red-leaf tree and were about to seize the Redfire Fruit. Seeing this, Lu Sheng had no intention of competing directly with them. Instead, he turned and commanded the Desert Giant to summon a sandstorm. He intended to wipe them all out in one fell swoop.
Unexpectedly, the red-leaf tree itself sprang to life, its countless branches and roots lashing out at those trying to pluck the fruit. This sudden defense caught the would-be thieves off guard, throwing them into disarray.
Lu Sheng sneered coldly. It seemed these people deserved to die at his hands. Without the tree’s intervention, he would have feared they might grab the fruit and flee before he could counterattack, but now there was no need to worry. Moreover, since the red-leaf tree was alive, if they ended up killing it, would they still get the card? Based on past experience with the Water Spirit Fruit Tree, it probably wouldn’t be an issue.
Seeing the thieves obstructed brought some calm to Lu Sheng’s raging heart. Anger only gave the enemy opportunities, so he often restrained himself, suppressing unnecessary fury. Those who provoked him could simply be eliminated—there was no need for anger. Still, controlling his emotions perfectly was not easy; just moments ago, he had been furious. With time and experience, he would mature further.
As the Desert Giant’s sandstorm took shape, Lu Sheng ordered the Giant Crocodile and Stone-Throwing Goblins to join the assault, launching ranged attacks on the intruders. The Flame Bearwolves were badly injured and unsuitable for fighting now; dying at the hands of these thieves would be a huge loss.
Three explosive red stones hurtled toward the group. The thieves, already focused on snatching Lu Sheng’s loot, were wary of his reactions. As Lu Sheng launched his attack, they chose to dodge. Their choice was wise—at the moment they dodged, the red stones detonated, scattering into shards easily deflected by the crowd.
Having evaded the attack, the thieves paid no further mind to Lu Sheng and resumed their rush toward the red-leaf tree. Lu Sheng remained patient; he was waiting for the Desert Giant’s sandstorm to fully form—that would be the end of these people.
More and more rushed toward the tree, which, though tenacious, suffered constant damage. Branches and roots were slowly hacked away.
Finally, the Desert Giant’s sandstorm was fully formed. Lu Sheng issued the order, “Throw it at the red-leaf tree.”
The fierce sandstorm was hurled forward, crashing at the tree’s base. The powerful vortex swallowed up everyone nearby, including the tree itself. The violent winds tore the redfire fruits from the branches, destroying them utterly.
Lu Sheng felt no pity. If he couldn’t have them, no one else would.
Those caught in the sandstorm cursed loudly. “Lu Sheng! You’re crazy!” “Damn you! Don’t let us survive!”
In that moment, their anger flared. They never considered that this calamity was their own fault. All they saw was Lu Sheng attacking them and destroying what they believed was rightfully theirs.
Lu Sheng looked coldly at them. “Survive? Then survive first, and we’ll talk later.”
The Desert Giant pressed the sand and wind against their faces, suffocating them. As the sandstorm weakened over time, two figures broke free, one after the other, eyes blazing with murderous intent as they charged directly at Lu Sheng.
He was surprised that anyone could escape the storm, though realistically, such a tactic was unlikely to grant invincibility against an equal opponent. Both were wounded, their clothes tattered, countless small cuts from the abrasive sand bleeding crimson.
They paid no heed to their injuries, only thirsting to kill Lu Sheng.
Just as Lu Sheng prepared to order Green Strong and the Giant Crocodile to attack, something unexpected happened—the two simply ran, one to the left and the other to the right, ignoring Lu Sheng and his allies altogether.
Lu Sheng was momentarily stunned, then chuckled. These two were clever enough to know that charging in was suicide; he had assumed their rage had clouded their judgment, but that was not the case.
Run? Lu Sheng would not allow them to escape from his grasp.
Though the White Flame Blue-Scaled Bird was only fourth-tier, its advantages made it fully capable of holding off a fifth-tier opponent. He released the bird to pursue the man on the left while recalling his forces to chase the other.
The bird cried out and darted forward; the man’s speed was laughable in comparison. Soon, he was caught, and the bird unleashed a trio of white flame fireballs from the sky, blocking his escape route.
Forced to halt and dodge the fireballs, three explosions erupted before him, carving out three large craters in the ground, white flames flickering atop them.
Sweat beaded on his forehead—he was doomed this time.
Lu Sheng, mounted on his White Cloud Horse, swiftly caught up with the other fleeing man. The massive Giant Crocodile blocked his path, while the Desert Giant and Green Stone stood with Lu Sheng. Green Strong closed the circle in a triangular formation, cornering the man.
Helpless, the man stopped and spoke casually, unfazed by the tight encirclement. “Lu Sheng, I didn’t get the Redfire Fruit either, and I haven’t made a move against you. Why be so extreme?”
Lu Sheng said nothing but gestured, and the Giant Crocodile and Desert Giant sprang into action.
The man shouted angrily, “I’m from the Wildlands Bandits! If you dare kill me, the entire Wildlands Bandits will hunt you down!”
He smirked with confidence. The Wildlands Bandits were notorious in District 21; anyone who harmed their members without backing from a powerful force was certain to be hunted to death. This was well-known throughout the wilderness. Huang Tao didn’t believe Lu Sheng would dare act.
But Lu Sheng remained unmoved. Since he had already made his move, there was no point in talking.
Green Stone hurled three explosive red stones. Huang Tao was shocked: Lu Sheng really dared to attack!
“You’re finished! Absolutely finished!” Huang Tao cursed, dodging desperately while threatening Lu Sheng.
The red stones exploded into fragments; Huang Tao tried to defend but was struck by two chunks—one in the abdomen, another in the calf.
“Ah!”
White smoke seeped from the wounds, but no blood flowed. The pain twisted his face as he screamed. The red stones’ heat seared the injuries, instantly cauterizing the cuts.
