The three of them sat in a canteen hall. Before long, Cang Mingyue, who had been absent, returned. Guo Lang quickly stood up and asked, “Sister Cang, how is it?”

Cang Mingyue nodded expressionlessly. “Yes, just as you said. The corpses are all wearing green military uniforms. There are very few bodies in other attire within the base. According to intelligence, those air force personnel and nearly a hundred thousand refugees have vanished without a trace!”

Guo Lang nodded at her words. “As expected...” Then, noticing Xie Lin and Mir looking at him, he hesitated briefly, aware that Xie Lin was a bit obsessive on this matter. Resigned, he said, “Brother Xie, do you have any questions?”

“Were those people abducted?” Xie Lin’s face showed disbelief.

“What do you think? Were they swallowed whole?” Guo Lang rolled his eyes.

“Could the enemy really control things to this extent?” Xie Lin found it hard to believe. “Judging by the intelligence from the recordings and the characteristics of those monstrous corpses scattered everywhere, these should be soft-bodied unicellular organisms, right? Such rapid reproduction can’t be normal birth; it must be through division. Such lifeforms should be uncontrollable...”

Mir nodded in agreement nearby, while Sister Cang calmly ate some fruit as if none of it concerned her.

Guo Lang said, “It’s the mother organism. I suspect the mother uses human bodies as vessels to cultivate itself, which explains the preservation of biological intelligence. With intelligence, it can be controlled through special markings.”

Xie Lin frowned. “The mother can control with such precision? And with numbers increasing, accidents would be inevitable!”

“So...” Guo Lang pointed to some dried alien corpses on the canteen table. “The enemy must have set safeguards, controlling the organism’s lifecycle. Besides the mother organism having special means to survive longer, the offspring from division likely have very short lifespans. Without food, they quickly weaken and age, probably dying within a few hours.”

“That somewhat makes sense...” Xie Lin habitually stroked his chin. “But if that’s true, then the mother organism should be not far from this military base at the time of the incident?”

“Yes, that’s likely...” Guo Lang nodded in agreement.

“You’re saying... all this was man-made?” Mir’s face was full of horror, then turned to anger. “Who? Are these hundreds of thousands of lives just casualties of a biological experiment? What kind of devil’s heart does that take?”

Devil’s heart? Guo Lang rolled his eyes again. That’s nothing. There are viruses wiping out billions without batting an eye; do you think the military district’s hundreds of thousands matter that much?

“Well... it’s not entirely unsolvable,” Xie Lin ignored Mir’s outburst and solemnly addressed Guo Lang. “This organism reproduces by splitting and needs nutrients. That means the initial numbers wouldn’t have been large. As long as the anomaly is detected early, find the mother organism, kill it, and clear out the remnants, the problem can be solved.” He paused, then added, “Send the intelligence immediately. Warn them to stay alert. With our people stationed in the base, the chances of locating and killing the mother organism are much higher. We can’t let the enemy wipe out the remaining military base this way.”

“Well... that’s easier said than done...” Guo Lang frowned, feeling uneasy. He trusted this uneasy premonition deeply, as such instincts often heralded ill events.

Putting it aside for now, Guo Lang shook his head, took out a communicator, contacted the other three teams, and carefully relayed the intelligence. He instructed, “Use this intel to alert the military high command. Make them realize how dangerous that entity inside New Newton is. Urge them to launch a missile strike directly on the New Newton city center!”

Xie Lin’s brows furrowed. The plan seemed sound. If they could strike remotely and destroy the enemy base along with that terrifying weapons factory, the enemy would lose all initial resources. Without the base, the necromancer would be no more than a bronze-tier mage—anyone on their team could easily defeat him.

But Xie Lin noticed Guo Lang’s emotional unease and curiously asked, “What are you worried about?”

“I just feel...” Guo Lang looked troubled, “that things won’t go so smoothly.”

Theoretically, if this strike succeeded, it would be perfect. Without the weapons factory, the enemy would be much easier to handle. As for the military, Guo Lang had technological lures to stall them. Against local forces, he had many countermeasures—definitely easier to face than that necromancer.

After all, storming the enemy base for a decapitation strike was too risky. Guo Lang didn’t want to take that step unless absolutely necessary. Yet, he had spent heavily to hire Xie Lin and his team because he sensed this operation was ninety percent unavoidable.

Xie Lin was puzzled by Guo Lang’s mysterious pessimism and asked with curiosity, “You really think so highly of the enemy?”

“Or the army?” Guo Lang sighed. “I just feel the local forces aren’t that reliable.”

“Interesting...” Xie Lin smiled and said, “Instead of worrying, why don’t we reason this out? What kind of tactics would the enemy use to bring about the worst-case scenario you imagine?”

“How?” Guo Lang asked curiously.

“Put yourself in their shoes,” Xie Lin smiled. “If you were them, could you confront the army head-on?”

“No...” Guo Lang shook his head. “At least a year of development is needed. They’d need enough population, and most basic tools in the tech tree would have to be operational. Only then could the armed forces stand a chance on the frontline against the army.”

“What about the undead?”

Guo Lang pondered. “The undead might be possible. They have a vast pool of disposable cannon fodder—millions of zombies they don’t mind losing. Plus, the terrifying weapons factory can produce massive bio-weapons. For example, I know of a tyrant unit that can take on an entire armored battalion. The biggest threat would be the air force, but the air force relies on base supplies. Once the tyrant finds the base’s location, there are many ways to destroy it. Then comes the remote missile strikes!”

“If you were them, how would you deal with missile strikes?” Xie Lin asked.

“Missile strikes?” Guo Lang chuckled. “Our Night faction isn’t really afraid of that. The codes are held by high-ranking officers. Kill those officers, and without authorization, the missile systems are paralyzed. And Night excels at assassination...” He paused, realizing the key. Yes, just eliminate the military leadership!

Xie Lin asked in confusion, “Are the undead good at assassination?”

Guo Lang darkened his expression and nodded. “Depends on the target. Against people like us, they’re not very good. But against ordinary folks in low-magic realms, honestly, the undead are even better than Night!”
