Chapter Sixty-One: Mission Completion Reward
Chen Bo’s body had been so tormented by the old man that he was barely recognizable as human. In the end, Master Niu stitched up his wound with a needle, then applied a mysterious ointment. After more than an hour, he wiped the ointment away with a damp cloth, revealing a scar, jagged and fierce.
“Phew, nearly wore myself out,” Master Niu sighed. “This kid’s injuries were serious, but his recovery is remarkable. Normally, my ointment needs a whole day for wounds to heal fully, but his only took an hour.”
He shook his head in amazement and continued, “You little rascals have stirred up such a commotion at the academy these days that even a recluse like me couldn't help but hear about it.”
“Well, it can’t be helped. Young people are meant to be impulsive; otherwise, they’ll regret it when they’re old,” Master Niu suddenly mused, reflecting on life.
“Can we leave now?” Bai Ge ventured to ask. He felt uneasy in this place—with so many hands and eyes around, it wasn’t safe. What if someone took advantage and stabbed Chen Bo while they weren’t paying attention?
“Do you plan to stay the night?” Master Niu huffed, his beard bristling and eyes glaring. He couldn’t fathom why the youth of today were so slow-witted—had they cultivated themselves to stupidity?
Guo Zi’ang hurried over and hoisted Chen Bo onto his back. The three turned to leave, but Master Niu called out, “Hey! You haven’t paid yet! I may be a physician, but treating patients costs money—it's only right! One low-grade elemental stone, thank you for your patronage!”
The trio was speechless. They reached for their pockets, but their faces changed instantly. They were penniless!
During the recent wager, all their gold, silver, and elemental stones had been staked, and they hadn’t yet collected their winnings. Now, they were utterly broke.
Seeing their expressions, Master Niu understood and waved them off, “Fine, fine. You can owe me for now. Just pay me when you have money. Don’t tell me you’ll never have any!”
“Don’t worry, the elemental stone will be delivered tomorrow!” Guo Zi’ang called as he left, with Bai Ge and Du Gu Yixiao following behind.
Chen Bo lay quietly on the bed. Not far from the headboard, a censer released slender wisps of smoke, calming and focusing the mind.
A ray of morning sunlight streamed through the window and warmed Chen Bo’s face.
“Where am I?” Chen Bo slowly opened his eyes and saw a crudely made mosquito net, thick and stifling.
After a long, confused daze, he finally came to his senses and muttered, “Isn’t this my dormitory? How did I end up here? I remember fainting—did someone bring me back?”
He sat up slowly, his abdomen still aching. Although he had no idea what girls felt during their monthly cycle, he was certain he hurt even more now.
“Ouch, damn it! Why does it hurt so much? Did my intestines get twisted?” He struggled for a while before the pain eased, feeling as if he had swallowed a heap of glass shards—excruciating.
Suddenly, excited voices erupted:
“Breaking news! Breaking news! The streamer is awake! He’s finally awake!”
“Wow, streamer, you’ve slept through an entire afternoon and night—it’s already the next morning!”
“He looks so bewildered—he must have no idea what happened yesterday. Hahaha! We saw everything, streamer, from head to toe.”
“I could say we even saw inside you. And streamer, you’ve got quite the package—care for a date? How about some essential balm?”
“Asia. Seeds, Urban. Passion, Martial Arts. Forbidden group, join our QQ group.”
“Hey, does your group number really have that many digits?”
“Wait a minute!” Chen Bo suddenly interjected, “What happened to me yesterday? I don’t understand a word you’re saying!”
“La la la, for some reason, seeing the streamer so confused makes me want to… No, I must stay pure, I must be a lady!”
“No matter how you try to explain, it’s obvious you’re a fujoshi.”
“Can’t any of you answer the streamer’s question? Honestly! I want to explain, but I don’t know how to put it into words.”
“Pfft, I have nothing to say, let me do it.”
After a while, Chen Bo finally understood what had happened.
After he passed out, Bai Ge and the others took him to the medical pavilion, where the eccentric master healed him after much trouble. That was the gist of it.
But Chen Bo felt no gratitude whatsoever! The old man had stripped him of his clothes, and Guo Zi’ang, carrying him back to the dorm, had exposed him to countless onlookers. Even Chen Bo, thick-skinned as he was, felt embarrassed.
Just then, a familiar voice chimed in his ear: “Ding dong! Congratulations, streamer, you’ve completed the side quest ‘Battle of Life and Death.’ Completion is average, reward granted: one ultimate lottery chance!”
The quest was finally complete. Chen Bo rejoiced inwardly—the rewards were truly generous. An ultimate lottery!
What did that mean? It meant a single draw cost a billion yuan! A billion! That was a mountain of red banknotes, and all it bought was one shot at the ultimate lottery. The system was stingy beyond belief!
Chen Bo had complained about the system more than once, but there were never any consequences.
“Wow! Ultimate lottery! Streamer, hurry and draw! Draw now!”
“I’ve grown up and never seen an ultimate lottery before! How does the saying go? Something like ‘live long enough to see everything!’”
“Someone’s streamer played the ultimate lottery and earned billions a month! Applause and confetti!”
“I wonder what’s inside the ultimate lottery? An atomic bomb? A Red Alert base truck? A Gundam? Maybe the Monkey King? Or a Chang’e beauty?”
“Don’t get your hopes up. Forget Sun Wukong and Chang’e, or even the Gundam. Just an atomic bomb or a Red Alert base truck would be way beyond the streamer’s current abilities.”
“But what if the streamer’s luck really breaks the limits? Anything’s possible! He’s been lucky before. Drew the Condensing Vein Gu and Small Recovery Pill at first, then later got the Ninefold Killing Fist. That shows he’s got good luck!”
“Look at how many draws he’s had recently…”
