Chapter Sixty: Rescue and Healing
If Chen Bo were to regain consciousness and see the barrage of comments in the live chat, he would probably faint all over again. Is it really appropriate to discuss someone’s private parts so blatantly? Where’s the decency? Has all sense of decorum disappeared?
Unfortunately, by the time he wakes up, those messages will likely have been swept away, replaced by an even more indecent and shameless atmosphere in the chat during his absence. As for the system—a figure of almost godlike indifference—it couldn’t care less about such trivialities!
Guo Ziang, glancing anxiously at Master Niu’s grave expression, was like an ant on a hot pan. When Master Niu finally finished examining the injuries, Guo Ziang couldn’t hold back any longer. “Master Niu, just how badly is my brother hurt?”
But to his surprise, Master Niu seemed not to hear him. Shaking his head and murmuring, he said, “Impossible! How could this be? Strange, it’s truly strange! I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
All three were cultivators with exceptionally sharp hearing, so Master Niu’s mutterings were perfectly audible. Bai Ge quickly asked, “Master, what exactly is wrong with Brother Chen? How are his injuries?”
“Oh, the boy’s wounds aren’t anything too serious. They’re a bit severe, I’ll grant you, but he’s not going to die,” Master Niu replied offhandedly.
“Then why do you look so serious? You had me worried sick!” Guo Ziang breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Chen Bo was out of immediate danger, but then turned to grumble at Master Niu.
“It’s his meridians—very unusual! With injuries like these, there should be at least some damage, but oddly enough, his meridians are as resilient as rubber bands—not the slightest harm. A real marvel!”
“In all my years of practice, I’ve never encountered anything like this. Truly rare, truly extraordinary,” Master Niu’s eyes gleamed as he gazed at the unconscious Chen Bo.
“Damn, does the doctor look like he’s about to dissect the streamer? Is our streamer about to become a lab rat in another world?”
“Whoa, you’re scaring me up there. The streamer must have some serious luck, right? He’ll be fine, right?”
“You never really know someone. The doctor seems like an ordinary old man, but in TV dramas, it’s always the ordinary ones who turn out to be mad scientists. The streamer survived Chen Long only to fall at the hands of a doctor—let’s have a moment of silence.”
“You lot, don’t be so alarmist! The streamer has three loyal buddies by his side—nothing to worry about.”
“And you call them loyal after only a few days together? Please.”
“You fool, how could you possibly understand the deep bonds of brotherhood?”
“You bastard! You called me a fool?!”
“Hey, I didn’t name names, so don’t take it personally. But if you admit it yourself, what can I do? That’s just honesty for you.”
“Damn you! If you’ve got the guts, come out and fight me!”
“Looking at your profile, you’re only twelve. Tsk tsk, mindless elementary schoolers. Better watch out or the admins will mute you.”
Sure enough, before long, a few veteran admins started handing out mutes, and the bickering dissolved before it could really get going.
“Hey, hey, don’t you dare get any ideas about my brother!” Guo Ziang, seeing the look in Master Niu’s eyes, quickly stepped between him and Chen Bo.
Master Niu came back to himself, a little embarrassed at his age, and cleared his throat. “It’s rare, I admit, but not unique. It just means this kid has extraordinary talent, that’s all.”
“So why are you blocking the way? Old as I am, I still need room to treat the wounded! Or do you not want your brother saved?”
“Ah? Oh!” Guo Ziang hastily moved aside.
At that moment, Bai Ge leaned in and whispered, “Brother Guo, can this old man really be trusted? The look in his eyes just now gave me goosebumps. What if he means Chen Bo harm?”
Guo Ziang patted his chest with confidence. “Don’t worry! Master Niu is obsessed with medicine and, like us, clueless about worldly matters. But he’s absolutely trustworthy.”
“You’ve known him long?” Dugu Yixiao asked coolly.
“Since I was a kid. Back then, Master Niu was a tutor at Tianyang Academy, teaching medicine. I used to play around the academy and got to know him. He’s even related to the academy’s principal—surely you trust the principal?”
“This man gives me a dangerous feeling. He’s powerful,” Dugu Yixiao replied, face grim and eyes alight with battle intent.
“Give it up! Master Niu is at least half a step into the innate realm now. If he weren’t so obsessed with medicine, he’d have reached full innate strength long ago. If you challenged him now, you’d just be asking for a beating,” Guo Ziang said.
“Tianyang Academy, truly a den of hidden dragons,” Bai Ge couldn’t help but sigh.
Their gazes returned to Chen Bo, who remained unconscious with no sign of waking.
As if sensing their thoughts, Master Niu grumbled while treating Chen Bo, “What do you all take me for, a miracle worker? Just a touch and the boy would wake up from such heavy wounds?”
Now it was Bai Ge and the others’ turn to feel embarrassed, realizing their impatience had thrown them off.
No one knew what potion Master Niu gave Chen Bo, but even if he were to crack open his chest, Chen Bo showed no sign of waking—clearly deeply anesthetized.
Master Niu set Chen Bo’s ribs, then fiddled with his internal organs and various other bits, making everyone watching break into a cold sweat. The old man’s methods were so rough, who knew if he might accidentally pull out an organ or two?
“Is this old man for real? So much blood—does he think the streamer’s already dead?”
“I can’t stand the sight of blood—I’m going to be sick!”
“It’s weird! How does he keep the streamer’s wounds from bleeding? How is the streamer still alive with no blood flow? My god, this is inhuman!”
“Are you daft? The streamer isn’t an ordinary person anymore, and the laws of this world are surely different from those of Earth. Stop trying to judge everything by Earth’s logic!”
“My, my, my, my great big blade is itching again! Damn, the live feed is so gory and disgusting—I’m out.”
“Funny how you lot didn’t mind the streamer killing people, but now one surgery has you all squeamish. Ridiculous.”
Ah, my fingers are cramping. If I can’t manage three chapters today, I’ll make it up tomorrow! But I’ll still try my best to keep writing.
