The Flying Peng Hotel had undergone significant changes. The original doorman was gone, replaced now by cleaning staff. The two attendants who stayed on with Xiao Lan were tasked with boiling water and washing, handling miscellaneous chores. Though the nature of their work had shifted somewhat, their salaries had increased, so none of them raised any objections.
Early the next morning, Chu Dong was awakened by vigorous knocking at his door. He hadn’t slept well the previous night, making the disturbance all the more unbearable. Fortunately, Chu Dong’s temper was decent; he didn’t fling the door open and kick the knocker away.

“What brings you here?” Chu Dong was surprised. He opened the door but immediately turned away, heading inside.
