Chapter 138: Three Families Closing In
Chen Yu arrived with over a dozen companions from his car club, having even formulated a simple battle plan before setting off: they would storm the Mo residence, locate Lu Ye and Su Qianqian, and then, at the risk of getting beaten up, snatch them back to their cars and leave.
However, the scene before him left Chen Yu completely bewildered. Why were the members of the Mo family not giving his master any trouble? In fact, why was it He Chao kneeling on the ground? After stepping out of their cars, Chen Yu and his friends stood frozen in confusion.
"Master?"
Lu Ye waved at him. "Come over here."
"Oh, right!" Chen Yu obediently walked to Lu Ye’s side and asked, "Master, what’s going on here?"
Lu Ye laughed heartily. "After He Chao lost, he tried to come to the Mo family to welch on his debt. But the head of the Mo family and his second brother are men of principle; they didn't help this bastard throw his weight around."
"Then how do you intend to handle this, Master?"
Lu Ye replied, "He called me a 'pretty boy' earlier. You handle it however you see fit."
"The hell he did!" Chen Yu immediately rolled up his sleeves, spat into his palm, and swung a massive slap across He Chao’s face.
*Smack!*
"How dare you call my master that!"
He Chao toppled over instantly, and Chen Yu prepared to climb on top of him to continue the beating.
"Ahem!" Mo Cheng asked timidly from the side, "Master Lu, would you like to come inside and sit for a while?"
Lu Ye nodded. "Sure." Since he was already there, he might as well go in. He returned to the LaFerrari, opened the door for Su Qianqian, took her hand, and walked into the house. The interior was a mess, as they hadn't had time to clean up the aftermath of Wan Quan’s earlier rampage.
Mo Cheng said somewhat awkwardly, "Please don't mind the mess, Master Lu. This was all the work of Young Master Wan."
Lu Ye laughed. "It’s fine. At least you still have one sofa left in one piece."
The two brothers, Mo Chong and Mo Dong, no longer dared to show any hostility. They kept their heads bowed, diligently pouring tea and serving water. Once they were seated, Mo Cheng probed, "Master Lu, do you come from a martial arts family?"
Lu Ye offered a cryptic smile. "Master Mo, what do you think?"
The remark was ambiguous. He never explicitly claimed to be from the Lu martial arts clan, but Mo Cheng took it as an admission. He must be from the Lu martial arts family, and his surname is Lu... The Lu martial arts clan? That would explain everything. No wonder the young master of the Wan family acted as his lackey—that man was a genuine seventh-rank expert!
Lu Ye’s identity suddenly seemed clear: only the young master of the Lu martial arts clan would be fit to have a seventh-rank expert as a follower. Mo Cheng’s mind raced with calculations. The Wan family, which had been weak for years, had suddenly risen to prominence overnight—this likely had everything to do with Young Master Lu!
And the price the Wan family paid was merely letting Wan Quan serve as a lackey to this man... Was it shameful to be a lackey to the young master of the Lu family? To those at the bottom of the second-tier martial arts families, it certainly was not! Mo Cheng didn't know the extent of Lu Ye’s reach, but who knew how many followers like Wan Quan he had? Regardless, not just anyone was qualified to be a lackey for Young Master Lu. Just look: the first one to pop up, Wan Quan, was a seventh-rank expert!
"Hehe... Master Lu, may I ask you something?"
Lu Ye nodded. "Go ahead."
Mo Cheng swallowed his pride and said, "Master Lu, are you still looking for followers? If you don't mind, I’d like to have Mo Chong and Mo Dong join your ranks!"
Lu Ye smiled. "I’m not from Li City. Ask them if they are willing to go to Mingzhu City to develop their careers."
"We are! We’re willing!" Mo Chong and Mo Dong, standing behind the sofa, nodded repeatedly. After all, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. At noon, they had seen for themselves what Wan Quan’s level was. He had been a genuine first-rank novice, yet in the few hours that followed, he had surged to the seventh rank and defeated their father. Mo Min and Mo Cheng had analyzed the situation and reached a conclusion that was hard to believe but likely the truth: a top-tier internal martial arts master had cleansed Wan Quan’s meridians, and that master was clearly this Young Master Lu before them.
"Master Lu, both of us are willing to go to Mingzhu City with you!"
Lu Ye put on a look of reluctance, pondering for a long time before finally nodding. "Fine. Once you arrive, follow Wan Quan first. I will observe you for a while before deciding whether to keep you by my side for training."
Mo Cheng felt no displeasure at this; on the contrary, he was ecstatic! *Damn it!* The beating he took today wasn't in vain—he had finally latched onto the Lu family’s coattails!
"Mo Chong, Mo Dong, did you hear that? Once you get to Mingzhu City, you better perform well and don't disappoint Master Lu! If Master Lu kicks you out and sends you back, I’ll break your legs!"
Mo Chong and Mo Dong nodded like chickens pecking at grain. "Yes, Father, we understand!"
Mo Min pushed his wheelchair over, looking embarrassed. "Master Lu, I was unaware of your noble status earlier. I hope you can forgive my offenses."
Lu Ye waved his hand dismissively. "It’s fine. I’ve always been a low-key person."
Look at that level of self-awareness from Young Master Lu. Being low-key is the ultimate form of showing off!
"It’s getting late. My wife and I need to get back to Mingzhu City for dinner. You two, pack your bags and head over yourselves. Once you arrive in Mingzhu City, go directly to Villa 013 in the Half-Mountain area of Jiangbei District to find Wan Quan."
With that, Lu Ye and Su Qianqian rose to leave. Mo Chong and Mo Dong saw them to the door, bowing respectfully. "Understood, Master Lu. Travel safely."
Outside, Chen Yu was still busy pummelling He Chao, who was whimpering with no one to help him. Lu Ye laughed. "Chen Yu, keep playing with Captain He if you like, your mistress and I are leaving!"
"Right, goodbye, Master!"
They set off back to Mingzhu City. On the road, Lu Ye and Su Qianqian couldn't help but burst into laughter. Su Qianqian, while driving, chuckled, "You little rascal, you’re getting better and better at pulling that 'fox pretending to be a tiger' act!"
Lu Ye spread his hands innocently. "I didn't say a word. Mo Cheng jumped to those conclusions all on his own!"
"That’s because you deliberately misled him!"
"Eh, either way, we got two more young masters from a martial arts family as lackeys for free. Might as well take them."
It was already dark by the time they returned to Mingzhu City. Before they even entered the courtyard, the rich aroma of roasted lamb drifted over the wall, immediately whetting their appetites. Upon entering, they found Fei Hong had set up a spit to roast a whole lamb in the yard, while Chen Xi and Luo Ying were sitting on small stools, waiting to eat.
Lu Ye laughed. "Great skills, Chief! We smelled this all the way from the foot of the hill!"
"You're back?"
"Yup."
Chen Xi asked, "Why are you back so late?"
Lu Ye smiled. "I picked up two more little lackeys from a martial arts family in Li City today. A small detour delayed us."
Chen Xi was stunned. "How did you trick them? Are those martial arts family disciples all idiots?"
Su Qianqian ran over, wrapped her arm around hers, and said with a grin, "Haha, let me tell you, it went like this..."
After hearing the full story, Chen Xi couldn't help but laugh, but a flicker of worry crossed her mind. "Little brother, your little act is fine as long as no one sees through it. But aren't you worried that if they figure it out, all three martial arts families will come knocking to smash you?"
Lu Ye tore a piece of hot lamb leg from the spit and took a big bite, chewing as he mumbled, "I'm not worried. They might not even be able to beat me, and besides, don't I have you covering for me?" As he spoke, he intentionally leaned into Chen Xi’s arms and acted spoiled. "My sister is the best. You wouldn't let anyone bully me."
Chen Xi laughed in spite of herself. "Look at you, you wretch..."
Su Qianqian nodded in firm agreement from the side, then patted Lu Ye’s shoulder and said with a smile, "Don't worry. If anyone dares to come to our home to give you trouble, I'll put on my Thor’s Armor and protect you too!"
"Haha, then we're set!"
Halfway through the roasted lamb feast, Fei Hong suddenly said, "Actually, I kind of want to go home. I've been out for so long, I don't know how Duo Duo and the others are doing."
Everyone fell silent. Su Qianqian tried to persuade her, "Sister Fei Hong, are you not happy living here?"
Fei Hong shook her head. "No, the time I've spent with you all has been the happiest of my life. But my roots are in the Sangye Tribe. I only came here to learn about the modern world so I could go back and improve the living conditions for everyone."
Everyone understood this, but they were still reluctant to see her go. Su Qianqian said, "How about you wait a few more days? The day after tomorrow, we're going to Shangjing to inspect the fifty houses Bai Wen gave us, and then we'll all go together to take you home."
