Chapter 54: Once More—The Source of Catastrophe!
“This natural disaster is truly dangerous this time!” Lin Han couldn't help but force a bitter smile. The scale of this earthquake had already surpassed his imagination, and right now, he was caught right in the very heart of the catastrophe.
The ground was splitting apart violently. Although it wasn't enough to actually harm him, it was certainly troublesome. Compared to the sources of the volcanic or tsunami disasters, as long as one’s own strength was sufficient, extracting the elemental source from those disasters wasn’t all that difficult. But as for the earthquake’s source, Lin Han had absolutely no clue.
He had already searched the entire central area, yet still had not found the slightest trace. For the moment, he was at a loss.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. When he checked, it turned out to be a message from Manager Liu.
Manager Liu: Mr. Lin, I forgot to tell you an important detail—the source of the earthquake is underground, which makes it more troublesome compared to the other disaster sources. That’s also why the main thing being sold this time is information about the source, not the source itself. And only earthquakes powerful enough to split the earth open can produce a source. Please be careful, and I wish you a triumphant return.
The message ended there. Lin Han couldn't help but admire Manager Liu a little; when it came to after-sales service, this man always knew exactly where to focus, ensuring the customer had the best possible experience. The man was truly a talent—at least, in business, Lin Han had to admit he respected him somewhat.
Stretching his body, Lin Han chuckled, “It really is thanks to Manager Liu’s reminder. No wonder I searched everywhere and couldn’t find the source—it’s been hidden underground all along.”
“Now that I know, this matter will be much easier to handle.”
With that in mind, Lin Han found a deep fissure and dove straight in.
The underground was far more perilous than the surface. Even for someone at the Supreme level, these crevices carried real danger, which explained why the earthquake’s disaster source could fetch such a sky-high price. If Lin Han didn’t need this disaster for his third transformation, he would have been tempted to sell it off. It would certainly have brought him an astronomical sum.
Of this, Lin Han was certain.
Inside the crevice, Lin Han anchored himself by digging his hands into the walls on either side. If he really fell to the deepest part of the earth, he’d be a laughingstock for sure. The abyss was pitch black. Even the faint moonlight that filtered in was of no use at all. But to Lin Han, such things were trivial.
God’s Eye!
He possessed the forbidden-level God’s Eye. He didn’t need to see with his own eyes; by simply observing the flow of energy and air currents, he could find what he needed.
If a disaster source could be formed here, it meant that somewhere below was a hollow space—the origin point of the earthquake. Since it was a hollow, it couldn’t possibly be completely sealed off; there had to be cracks connecting it to other places. Otherwise, the earthquake’s source would be impossible to obtain.
On this point, Lin Han was confident.
At that moment, he sensed a steady stream of air pouring into a particular crevice. With that realization, Lin Han freed one hand and punched forward. The fissure trembled violently, and he forced an opening in the underground crack.
No, it still wasn’t enough! The gap still wasn’t large enough for him to squeeze through.
He didn’t want to take unnecessary risks. No matter how powerful his forbidden spells were, or how many cards he had up his sleeve, this was still underground. If anything went wrong, even self-rescue would be extremely difficult.
Boom!
He struck again, and this time, the entire underground shook with a fierce tremor, widening the crack further.
When the opening was finally big enough to admit his body, Lin Han didn’t hesitate. He leapt inside.
Right now, time was money. Who knew if the earthquake would escalate further? The destruction so far was already outrageous. He didn’t even know the state of the outlying areas, but the central zone was already split beyond recognition.
He also knew, deep down, that the scale of this seismic source had a great deal—at least eighty percent—to do with the forbidden spells he had already used.
That was unavoidable.
To prevent a second wave of tremors, he now moved swiftly in the direction the air was flowing.
He had no intention of dying in this godforsaken place.
After several minutes of winding through the passages, Lin Han could feel that he was nearing the place where the energy was finally converging.
“It seems I’m about to find you.”
...
“Sun Hu, you’re not calling just to mock me, are you?” came a helpless voice on the other end of the line.
“Liu Cheng, do you think I have nothing better to do than call and jeer at you at a time like this?”
Rolling his eyes, Liu Cheng replied, “I know exactly what kind of person you are. Back when we worked in the Imperial Capital, you pulled that kind of thing all the time. If you have nothing important to say, I’m hanging up.”
“Wait!” Sun Hu quickly interrupted. “I saw on the Imperial Capital news that your Cloudsmoke City just suffered a once-in-a-century earthquake. I called to check in and see what’s actually happening.”
“If you already know, then you know I’m busy. I don’t have time to chat with you.”
Liu Cheng had no interest in dealing with this man. Back in the capital, nothing good ever came from getting involved with Sun Hu. Even now, after all this time and distance, the man still managed to find him.
Sun Hu chuckled. “Isn’t this what the police are for? Your investigation team can’t help much with this. I know your abilities well enough. You’re lucky if you can protect yourself, let alone get involved in a disaster of this scale.”
“You really did call just to mock me!” Liu Cheng cursed at the screen in his office while watching the display.
“I swear, I’m only calling out of concern. Heaven and earth can testify,” Sun Hu protested, full of self-righteousness.
“Fine, there’s nothing to hide. This isn’t an ordinary earthquake. It’s a man-made disaster resulting from a battle between two professionals.”
Liu Cheng sighed, exhaustion etched across his face. He’d never imagined such an absurd situation would happen to him. Thinking about it now, he realized he’d once laughed at Sun Hu behind his back for something similar, and now karma had come full circle. The irony wasn’t lost on him.
