Chapter 52: Across the Way, the Forbidden Spell Has Been Unleashed!
"Take it," he said.
Although it was he who had defeated the Crimson-Eyed Star Wolf, the final blow had been struck by Du Wanting, and in any case, such equipment was of little use to him now. The robe he wore alone was leagues beyond this trinket.
"Boss, I absolutely can't accept this!" Du Wanting hurriedly shoved the Star Wolf Fang Necklace back into Lin Han's hand and said anxiously, "All I did was finish it off. This is a gold-tier piece of equipment—I couldn't take it in good conscience."
"I'm already so grateful you let me finish the wolf and gain a level. How could I accept your equipment as well?"
Lin Han replied, "This kind of equipment is useless for me. That necklace might be of some use to a mage, and you happen to be one. Wear it."
"It's too valuable. I can't take it," Du Wanting insisted.
Lin Han, a little helpless, finally stowed the necklace in his backpack. There was no point in forcing it on someone who genuinely refused.
"You've reached level ten now; you've achieved your goal. The deeper you go, the more dangerous it will get. You should head back the way you came," he advised.
Hearing this, Du Wanting hesitated, but ultimately said resolutely, "Boss, I want to keep going with you. Without you, I would never have seen any of this."
"If I just left after achieving my own goal, I wouldn't be worthy of calling myself human."
Lin Han continued deeper into the forest and said, exasperated, "Do as you wish. But if anything seems amiss, you must leave immediately."
Trailing behind, Du Wanting grinned and said, "Don't worry, Boss. If things go south, I'll run with everything I've got. I won't cause you any trouble."
The two walked for a long while without encountering a single monster. Even with the Eye of God fully open, there were far fewer creatures gathered here than in the middle ring of the forest.
They came across the occasional stray monster, but most seemed to be in a state of hibernation.
This struck Lin Han as odd. Monsters of this type usually held their own territory and rarely abandoned it. Yet now, there were none to be found in the depths; most had gathered in the mid-ring, and even some silver-tier beasts had migrated to the outer fringes.
This was by no means normal.
Could it be... the impending earthquake disaster?
According to the information Manager Liu had sent, the area expected to be struck by the earthquake disaster was precisely the heart of Diamond Forest—this would be ground zero.
The best explanation for the situation was that the monsters had already sensed the coming catastrophe and had begun to migrate, moving away from the center.
Monsters were capable of this, much like ordinary animals could sense extraordinary events.
But Lin Han himself felt no tremors from beneath the ground—perhaps the quake still needed time to manifest.
"Du Wanting, you should leave now. It's about to get dangerous, and this is no place for you," Lin Han suddenly stopped and said solemnly.
"Is there some kind of ferocious beast ahead?" Du Wanting asked curiously.
"No. It's a powerful enemy—someone whose strength is not below mine. You need to go. I don't know what his intentions are, but a fierce battle may be about to erupt."
"I won't be able to look after you then."
Hearing this, Du Wanting's spirits suddenly rose.
Someone not weaker than the Boss!
"Maybe he's a good guy?" she suggested, grasping at possibilities.
"No," Lin Han replied firmly, "the aura he exudes is deeply sinister. There's no way he advanced by ordinary means."
He then produced a portable teleportation array.
"Pick a location. I'll use this to send you back. The farther from here, the better."
Du Wanting looked at the teleportation array with a sense of loss. She had grown to enjoy exploring this place with the Boss, and now she felt a hollow emptiness inside.
"Boss, will we ever meet again?" she asked, voice low.
"We will," Lin Han replied coolly, his gaze never leaving the shadowed depths of the forest.
Du Wanting set her destination, and Lin Han activated the array. A flash of blue light, and she vanished from the spot.
Only then did Lin Han breathe a sigh of relief—finally, he had managed to send the girl away.
Now, it was time for his solo performance!
The reason he sent Du Wanting away was that what he was about to do was dangerous, and she might be caught in an impossible predicament if she stayed.
That was why he had chosen as he did.
Lin Han knelt and pressed his hand to the earth. Midnight had fallen, but still, there was no sign of movement beneath the ground.
But the behavior of the monsters confirmed that this was the place.
Manager Liu's information had narrowed it down to this area, though the exact timing was unclear—perhaps it would be days yet.
But Lin Han was growing impatient.
If the disaster still needed time to arrive, then he would be the catalyst to hasten its coming!
As this thought struck him, a flash of dark purple passed through Lin Han's eyes.
Domain of Chaos!
As he invoked it, the sound of a meteor tearing through the atmosphere echoed from the sky above.
It was the same forbidden spell Lin Han had used for the first time—the one that had obliterated the Wall of Life. Fortunately, this place was far from the sea, and there was no Wall of Life to destroy.
But the monsters here were of a much higher grade, and with him still short of level twenty, a forbidden spell would be just the thing to help him meet those requirements.
Meanwhile, outside the teleportation point beyond Diamond Forest, Du Wanting stared blankly at the meteors streaking across the sky, at a loss for words.
What caliber of magic was this?
A forbidden spell?
Or perhaps the legendary Grand Forbidden Spell?
Was this the kind of mage the Boss was up against?
Such a powerful wizard could not be lower than the Supreme tier—could the Boss handle it?
With this thought, Du Wanting grew anxious and hurriedly took out her phone to call the city's emergency services.
"Hello, this is the Yanyun City Incident Center. How may I assist you?"
She spoke quickly, "Hello, I'm currently at Diamond Forest. There's a battle going on here—one of them is a very strong warrior, I don't know exactly how strong, but he can kill a Crimson-Eyed Star Wolf with a single punch. The other is at least Supreme tier, perhaps higher."
"Can you give more details?"
"Please, move as fast as you can! Remember, the warrior is a good man, but the mage has already unleashed a forbidden spell!"
