Chapter 50: Do You Know, Lin Han?!
"Brother Qiang, where are you from?" Du Wanting asked from the side, her large eyes fixed on Wang Qiang.
"Yaoguang City. I came over to deal with something," Lin Han replied, casually fabricating an identity. When traveling, it's always wise to conceal some personal information—one can’t lay all their cards on the table.
"Yaoguang City? Isn’t that close to Huiyue City?" Du Wanting’s eyes lit up.
"It’s just next door," Lin Han answered, suddenly growing wary. He couldn’t understand why she had brought up Huiyue City out of the blue.
Du Wanting grinned mischievously. "Then you must have heard about the recent attacks on Huiyue City by some mysterious powerhouse. I heard even the Imperial Capital’s investigation team was dispatched."
"I’ve heard a bit," Lin Han replied coolly. "The official statement is that it was caused by a Supreme-level Mage, but the specifics are unclear."
"So, do you think you could defeat that person, Brother Qiang?"
"It’s hard to say."
"You’re really something, Brother Qiang! You look so young, yet your strength is unbelievable!" Du Wanting exclaimed, visibly excited. She had been chattering nonstop the entire journey, asking about this and that. After all, encountering someone so powerful made her extremely thrilled.
This was her first time witnessing such a strong individual in action—a silver-tier monster dispatched with a casual punch. It was far beyond anything she had previously known.
"It’s nothing," Lin Han replied.
"By the way, I heard that during Huiyue City’s entrance exams, a monster named Lin Han appeared. He’s a Life Sacrificer, yet he crushed all the main combat specialists along the way! I regret not going there in person to witness the battle. Do you think a Life Sacrificer could really take on main combat classes? I suspect there’s something fishy going on, but even so, it would be difficult to manipulate things under those circumstances. How terrifying must that person’s power be!"
Du Wanting’s face was full of excitement and longing, while Lin Han stood awkwardly to the side.
Surprised? Unexpected?
The very person you’re talking about is standing right before you!
Lin Han was well aware that, in order to deflect attention, Huiyue City would surely make a great show of his exploits. Plus, a Sacrificial profession breaking through the ranks would naturally attract extensive media coverage.
This was inevitable. He just hadn’t expected that even a random acquaintance would know his name.
However, from Du Wanting’s tone, it was clear she wasn’t suspicious. She had probably just heard about the incident somewhere and hadn’t even seen his photo.
At least on that front, Lin Han could be at ease.
"It’s nothing surprising," Lin Han said mildly. "Just because someone’s profession is Sacrificer doesn’t mean they’re weak. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of greater strength. With enough training from a young age, anyone can achieve such feats. If main combat professionals were defeated so easily, it only means those people were incompetent."
"Despite their overwhelming natural talents, they still lost. That just shows they wasted their gifts and lacked proper training."
Du Wanting stared, dumbfounded, then grinned. "Brother Qiang, this is the most you’ve ever said to me."
Lin Han paused, then explained, "I just worry about the younger generation of our empire, so I couldn’t help but say a little more."
"You’re not exactly old yourself, Brother Qiang. To have such power at your age, you must be the future of our empire," Du Wanting replied. Though her words were somewhat flattering, she clearly meant them.
At his age, with such formidable strength, anyone unaware of his abilities would assume he’d only recently awakened his profession.
Yet here was someone who looked even younger than her, effortlessly dispatching a silver-tier monster.
"Let’s just say I look young," Lin Han sighed. "In truth, I’m much older than I appear."
"Then, Brother Qiang, can you teach me how to maintain my youth?" Du Wanting’s eyes sparkled with genuine eagerness; she longed to always stay so young.
"It’s a bit complicated—maybe another time, if there’s a chance," Lin Han replied helplessly. Indeed, women couldn’t be regarded as ordinary people; mention eternal youth, and they immediately get excited.
"You promised, Brother Qiang!"
Du Wanting felt that this journey had truly been worthwhile—she might even get such an ability for free. Of course, that was assuming this ‘big shot’ wasn’t just teasing her.
"So, what brings you here?" Lin Han asked coolly.
"Leveling up, of course," Du Wanting sighed. "I only awakened my profession not long ago. I was luckier than most and got a hidden main combat class: the Chameleon Mage."
"A hidden Mage class? You really are lucky." Lin Han felt a twinge of envy. Why, when everyone else got impressive hidden classes, did he end up with Life Sacrificer? Without the system, he would never have advanced to Scepter Mage in his lifetime.
Professions truly could make people jealous.
"What’s the use, though?" Du Wanting gave a wry smile. "My family isn’t well-off. We’re not poor, but we can’t afford the gear and items this class needs. Mage equipment and skill books are so expensive. Ordinary people like me can only watch others succeed."
Lin Han understood her feelings. He, too, hadn’t come from a wealthy background. He’d thought about these things before—if he’d been assigned a Warrior class, he’d have had to rely entirely on himself. His family couldn’t possibly help, since their own situation wasn’t great.
Unlike Wang Qiang and Gao Chong, who had good family backgrounds and could get whatever they wanted, he had only himself to depend on.
"So, you came to such a dangerous place? The Diamond Forest isn’t somewhere a first-transition professional should enter," Lin Han said, his tone serious.
"What can I do? I had to try my luck," Du Wanting replied apologetically.
"You really were unlucky," Lin Han said flatly. "Next time, don’t come to places like this. Just level up in the beginner areas—there’s no need to risk your life here."
"Alright, there won’t be a next time," Du Wanting promised.
She didn’t need him to tell her; after this experience, she knew she would never come here again. It was simply beyond her abilities.
She had barely entered the Diamond Forest and already encountered a silver-tier monster. If she hadn’t met this ‘big shot,’ she might not have made it out alive. Even after her second transition, she would think twice before coming here.
