Chapter 34: A True Genius, Declaring Victory!
This scene deeply captivated the eyes of the middle-aged woman on stage.
“This girl, though only at level ten, possesses such remarkable talent. Among all the healers, I’ve never heard of anyone awakening a double-thread connection.”
The others also turned their attention her way.
They could all sense that, at this moment, an invisible thread linked Liu Yunyun and Wang Qiang. This thread allowed one to bear the pain of the other, and when the skill ended, the pain would be transferred back.
“This girl is the most talented healer I’ve encountered so far,” the middle-aged woman continued. “Actually, being able to use a double-thread is impressive, but her true gift lies in her ability to heal her own wounds while maintaining the double-thread. If someone like her receives proper training, she’ll become an outstanding healer.”
Hearing her words, the others understood her meaning. Usually, when it came to such female professions, they chose not to compete. Only if the woman possessed extraordinary combat talent would they consider vying for her.
Though this healer was indeed gifted, support-type professions were nothing new to them, and nurturing one took considerable resources.
Up in the audience, Lin Han had also noticed the scene. At first, he’d been worried for Wang Qiang, but now he relaxed completely. If even with such a support he couldn’t win, Lin Han felt he might as well dissect Wang Qiang to see what he was made of.
If not for Liu Yunyun’s surprising intervention, Lin Han would have used his newly learned skill, allowing Wang Qiang to fight invincibly for a time and secure victory with ease. Yet, that would not have been good for Wang Qiang; one raised in a greenhouse never knows the harshness of the outside world.
That was simply the truth.
In the end, Wang Qiang had to walk his own path.
Back on the battlefield, Liu Yunyun’s unexpected involvement immediately put Zhang Siwen, who had held the advantage, on the defensive.
“This troublesome nuisance,” Zhang Siwen muttered, glaring furiously at Liu Yunyun. Victory had been within his grasp, and now this woman was to blame!
With that thought, Zhang Siwen unleashed all his strength and charged toward her.
But this time Liu Yunyun was prepared. She ran at once, dragging her battered body and healing herself as she went, the strain evident with each step.
“I should have eliminated you right from the start!” Zhang Siwen shouted. Though Liu Yunyun quickly widened the gap, with his speed he could close in within seconds.
Just as Zhang Siwen lunged at her, Wang Qiang sent several cards flying. The mentalist’s influence, which had been on Wang Qiang, now shifted onto Liu Yunyun.
It could be said that all negative effects aimed at Wang Qiang were now shouldered by Liu Yunyun. Even the injuries to come—she would bear them all.
Zhang Siwen had witnessed the power of these cards before. Unsure whether the mentalist’s effects still lingered, he chose to retreat immediately.
Wang Qiang, for his part, had only wanted to rescue Liu Yunyun and had not pursued Zhang Siwen aggressively, so evasion was not too difficult.
“Zhang Siwen, now it’s my time to perform,” Wang Qiang announced, producing ten cards at once. At that moment, he looked like a magician, the cards dancing deftly in his hands.
Whoosh!
Ten cards shot out together. Without the mentalist’s interference, Wang Qiang exuded absolute confidence.
Zhang Siwen hurried to dodge, but three of the cards predicted his movements perfectly.
Two sliced open his outer thighs, while another pierced through his upper arm. Fortunately, it only tore flesh, sparing the bone.
“Wang Qiang, if you didn’t have weapons of this quality, you wouldn’t have beaten me,” Zhang Siwen grumbled, convinced that the cards were the sole reason for his loss.
Wang Qiang laughed. “You don’t really think I’ve used the true power of this deck, do you?”
“What are you talking about?” Zhang Siwen asked, confused.
“If you’re not convinced, then let me show you what this deck is truly capable of.” Wang Qiang’s voice was calm.
Suddenly, his right hand clenched into a fist. The cards embedded in the ground began to move, flying toward Zhang Siwen at breakneck speed.
Seeing this, Zhang Siwen threw himself aside, but the cards seemed to track him, sliding along his wounds and returning to Wang Qiang’s hand.
The searing pain made him cry out.
How could this be?!
“You’re just a card master—how can you control objects?” Zhang Siwen stared at Wang Qiang in horror, as though facing a monster.
“Who said I was manipulating objects?” Wang Qiang snorted. “This is the true strength of my equipment.”
He then studied Zhang Siwen and Xu Jiamei, before looking toward Zhang Yunyun. “Yunyun, come over here.”
Zhang Yunyun didn’t question him and made her way to his side.
“And one more thing—both of you, hold your positions. If anything happens, I won’t be responsible.”
With a wave of his right hand, threads stretched taut from the ground. Reflected in the sunlight, the two could clearly see numerous threads encircling them.
Following the rays, they saw that the threads all led to the cards Wang Qiang had previously thrown.
Despairing, Zhang Siwen called out, “Referee, I surrender.”
Xu Jiamei was so frightened she barely dared to breathe, afraid the threads might cut her. “Referee, I surrender as well.”
At this, Wang Qiang collected the remaining cards back into his wooden deck.
Behind him, Liu Yunyun suddenly spoke. “Referee, please declare Wang Qiang the winner. I concede as well.”
Wang Qiang looked surprised. “I was hoping you’d advance. Without you sharing the burden, I couldn’t have done it.”
Liu Yunyun just waved her hand and said helplessly, “I’m just a support, after all. Even if I advanced, the next round would end the same way. I’ve already shown what I can do—that’s enough for me.”
With that, she left the arena. Halfway out, she turned, smiling, and added,
“Oh, by the way, it might hurt a bit in a moment…”
