Chapter 157: The Five Great Families, Gongsun!
"Are you not going to see me up, Senior?"
"No, I still have other freshmen to attend to," Feng Yunxin replied with a smile.
"Understood. Take care of yourself, Senior. If Zhang Jianan gives you any more trouble, let me know. Others might fear the Zhang family, but I certainly do not." Lin Han spoke simply; his relationship with Zhang Jianan was already irredeemably sour, so helping a senior out was no trouble at all.
Feng Yunxin said helplessly, "You little rascal, isn't that what I just told you? You've certainly put it into practice quickly."
Lin Han scratched his head and said, "It’s all thanks to your good teaching, Senior."
"Alright, enough with the glib talk. Get to your dormitory now. I’m off."
"Understood. Goodbye, Senior."
Watching Feng Yunxin leave, Lin Han walked into the men’s dormitory. It took him a while, but he eventually found the room number he had just registered on his admission letter.
Lin Han knocked on the door. "Is anyone there?"
A moment later, a voice called out, "Coming, coming!"
The door opened, revealing a figure standing before him.
"Hello, my name is Teng Xinqi. I’ll be your roommate from now on. I’m a Silver Level 6 Lightning Mage."
The person in front of him wore glasses and was not very tall. Compared to the two-meter-plus Lin Han, he looked remarkably tiny.
Lin Han quickly replied, "Lin Han, Gold Level 5 Altar Priest."
"You’re Lin Han?" Teng Xinqi exclaimed in surprise.
"You know me?"
"Of course! I don’t believe there’s anyone who doesn’t know you by now," Teng Xinqi said excitedly. "The first Priest in the entire world to reach the Third Awakening!"
"You’re a huge star! Could I get your autograph?"
"I never dreamed I’d end up in the same dorm as you!"
"It’s not that big of a deal," Lin Han said, feeling instantly embarrassed. His roommate was so incredibly enthusiastic that he found it a bit overwhelming.
"Come on in, I’ll help you with your luggage." Teng Xinqi grabbed Lin Han’s suitcase and ushered him inside. The dormitory furnishings looked quite new, likely replaced not long ago. The space was reasonably spacious, with four beds; it wouldn't feel too crowded with four people living there.
"How did you get here so early?"
Lin Han chose a bed by the window and started chatting with Teng Xinqi.
Teng Xinqi replied, "I was just bored at home and wanted to get out early. I live in Jinhua City. I could have gone to Nine Clouds Academy, but I deliberately chose one a bit further away."
"Otherwise, my parents would be hovering over me every single day. It’s rare to finally be in college and be able to relax a bit."
Jinhua City, huh?
He wondered how Wang Qiang was doing. Given that guy’s personality, he should be doing just fine in university.
Lin Han smiled and said, "I actually wish I could be closer to home."
"We’re different," Teng Xinqi said with a bitter laugh. "My parents’ control over me was just too strict. Back in high school, they would accompany me to study every day and wouldn't even give me a shred of private space."
"If it weren't for that, I wouldn't mind being a little closer to home."
Lin Han remarked, "Truly, every family has its own set of troubles."
"Never mind me, tell me about yourself. As the world’s first Third Awakening Priest, you must have been interviewed by plenty of people. How does it feel to be a big star?" Teng Xinqi asked excitedly.
"It’s alright, I don't really feel anything," Lin Han thought for a moment before adding, "Besides causing some trouble in my daily life, there’s not much good to it. Plus, they don’t even pay me for the interviews."
"You really are interesting," Teng Xinqi laughed. He continued, "I was worried my roommate might be some kind of workaholic. Seeing you like this, I feel much better about the next four years of college life."
"I’m just okay, I go with the flow," Lin Han said helplessly. It was the truth.
The leveling conditions for a Priest alone required going with the flow. As for the three Sources of Calamity needed for the Fourth Awakening, he had no leads whatsoever and no idea when he might find them.
The most convenient option now was to let the academy help; he truly had no other choice.
"That’s the right attitude," Teng Xinqi said. "College is for balancing work and rest; you can't just cultivate blindly. The real hard times come after college."
"You’re quite the optimist." Lin Han found himself liking this roommate more and more. He gave off a very relaxed vibe, a feeling completely different from the tense atmosphere of high school.
"What else can I do?"
Teng Xinqi lay on his bed, looking bored. "I’ll just take it one happy day at a time. I wonder what the other two roommates will be like. I hope they aren't annoying guys."
"That shouldn't be the case, right?" Lin Han suddenly thought of Zhang Jianan. If the other roommates were like those two, he would have a real headache. The daily friction would definitely be constant.
Just as they were talking, the door was suddenly pushed open. "Don't worry, I think I’m quite easy to get along with."
"Hello everyone. It seems I’m the third to arrive. My name is Gongsun Lianxi, a Silver Level 9 Light Spear Knight."
Hearing the name "Gongsun," Lin Han instinctively asked, "The Gongsun family of the Five Great Clans?"
"No need to wonder, it definitely is!" Teng Xinqi interjected from the side. "A spear-wielding profession and the surname Gongsun—it's almost certain this guy is from the Gongsun family."
"Why?" Lin Han didn't quite understand.
"You really don't know anything, do you?" Teng Xinqi said helplessly. "The Gongsun family is a clan of spear-wielders. The current elder of the Gongsun family is a Spear Saint, and eighty percent of the family members awaken the Spear Knight profession."
"So, barring any surprises, this guy is definitely from the Gongsun family."
"Gongsun Lianxi... that name sounds familiar. I remember now, the sixth young master of the Gongsun family!"
Gongsun Lianxi smiled. "It seems you know me quite well. That’s right, I am from the Gongsun family—the Five Great Clans' Gongsun family."
"I never expected to have such a big shot in our dorm."
"I’m hardly a big shot. Like you, I’m just here to study," Gongsun Lianxi said politely. "We’ll be living together for the next four years, so please don't treat me like some big shot. We’re just roommates."
"You must be Lin Han, the Gold Priest, right? How about it? Any interest in joining the Gongsun family? We can definitely offer you top-tier benefits, and the Gongsun family can help you search for the Sources of Calamity."
Lin Han waved his hand and said, "No interest. I prefer being free."
"I see." Gongsun Lianxi said calmly, "Don't misunderstand. It’s just that the people in my family insisted I ask. I’m just going through the motions; whether you join or not makes no difference to me."
