Chapter 130: Preparations Begin, Take Care!

“Little Boss, the Ma family may make their move within the next few hours,” Feihua suddenly warned.
Lin Han nodded silently. “Then we should remain prepared at all times. First, we must keep our identities from being exposed. Do you know how to disguise yourself?”
“I do. Assassins are trained in that sort of thing. However, a powerhouse of the Supreme Realm might still be able to see through it,” Feihua explained.
“It doesn’t matter if my identity is exposed. I’ve never gotten along with those great clans anyway. They wouldn’t dare recklessly pursue and kill a Supreme Realm powerhouse. They couldn’t afford to bear the consequences.”
“And if they really did kill me, the Empire wouldn’t simply stand by and do nothing. Even the Ma family might not dare go that far. So, Little Boss, you should worry about yourself instead.”
“That day, I saw the tools you used for disguising yourself. Even though I’ve memorized your current aura, if you changed back and pretended to be an ordinary passerby, I might not even recognize you.”
“So I’m not worried about you.”
Hearing this, Lin Han asked, “What if the Ma family can’t find me and comes after you instead? Even if they don’t attack you directly, they might use other means to force you into submission.”
“Against such a massive clan, even being a Supreme Realm powerhouse might not be enough.”
Feihua smiled. “Little Boss, stop worrying about me. In any case, I’m registered with Millennium Commercial City. If they really dare to do something like that, I can simply join Millennium Commercial City outright. It wouldn’t matter.”
“So, Little Boss, you should focus on worrying about yourself.”
Lin Han said helplessly, “Wouldn’t that go against what you originally wanted? If things turn out that way, I’ll feel guilty.”
“Since I agreed to take this job, I’ve already considered the risks.” Feihua looked unconcerned as she continued, “Little Boss, you shouldn’t worry so much about me. Right now, we’re nothing more than employer and mercenary. Don’t waste too much emotion on me.”
“The worst thing about you is that you’re too sentimental. It won’t do you any good.”
“Besides, the creed of assassins is simply to accept payment and solve the payer’s problem. Since I’ve taken your money, I’ll see the job through to the end. As for what happens afterward, we’ll deal with it afterward.”
“If those great clans have even a little sense, they won’t go looking for trouble with a mercenary.”
Lin Han replied, “If you’re sure there’s no problem, then I won’t say anything more. But I still hope we can be friends.”
“As for being friends, let’s wait until we survive this,” Feihua sighed. “If those fellows are driven to desperation, things could become troublesome.”

“Who can blame them? They’re a powerful great clan, after all.”
“Enough, enough. Let’s not talk about this anymore. Didn’t Auntie say she was making chicken soup tonight? Come on, let’s go home and have some.”
“You really can’t stop thinking about food.” Lin Han spread his hands helplessly. “It’s nearly dinnertime anyway. Let’s head back.”
With that, the two of them walked home. Before long, they arrived at the door.
Seeing them return, Shen Mei greeted them warmly. “Xiaohan and Ruixin are back! Your Uncle Lin and I just finished cooking. Come in quickly.”
“Wonderful! I could smell the food from far away. I’m starving.”
Feihua changed into slippers and expertly made her way to the dining table.
“Ruixin, come and try it. I’m not as good a cook as your Uncle Lin, but my chicken soup is truly exceptional. See if it suits your taste.”
Shen Mei took out a small bowl, filled it with chicken soup, placed a drumstick inside, and handed it to Ruixin.
“All right.”
Feihua gulped down the soup and exclaimed, “Auntie, this is unbelievably delicious! With cooking skills like yours, you could open a restaurant and make a fortune.”
“I’m glad you like it. I’ll make some for you again tomorrow,” Shen Mei said, her face full of satisfaction.
Lin Han came over to the table and said, “Mom, I want chicken soup and a drumstick too.”
“What do you think you’re eating?” Shen Mei’s face darkened at once. “Don’t be so disobedient. This is for Ruixin. You can just watch from the side.”
“Mom, you can’t treat me differently like this. I’m your son!”
Lin Han immediately protested and used his chopsticks to transfer another drumstick into his bowl.
“Auntie, he’s stealing my drumstick!” Feihua instantly looked aggrieved, her eyes fixed on the drumstick in Lin Han’s bowl with deep reluctance.
“Don’t you already have one in your bowl?” Lin Han hurriedly shielded his bowl, watching his surroundings warily in case Feihua tried to steal his drumstick.
Feihua replied, “Auntie made this for me. You’re not allowed to eat it.”
“That’s right, that’s right.”

Shen Mei stepped forward, snatched Lin Han’s bowl away, removed the drumstick, and placed it in Feihua’s bowl. Then she scolded him, “You’re a grown man, yet you’re shamelessly stealing someone else’s drumstick. Aren’t there plenty of other dishes? Hurry up and eat.”
“You accused me of stealing your drumstick, but you even stole my mother from me! What’s going on? Why does it look as if I’m the one who came here to freeload?!” Lin Han was speechless. This time, Feihua had truly taken over the household.
Feihua beamed. “Auntie is so kind. To me, she’s just like my real mother. What’s wrong? You can call her Mom, so why can’t I?”
Shen Mei froze at those words, suddenly at a loss. Things had developed far too quickly.
They had only met twice, and the girl was already preparing to call her Mom?
She still didn’t even know how much betrothal money the girl’s family would demand—or whether they could afford it.
“Son, don’t argue with your mother. Here, eat some of the other dishes.”
Lin Zhongtian picked up a piece of meat and placed it in Lin Han’s bowl.
Lin Han immediately brightened. “Dad really is the best to me. Mom has already been bewitched by this woman. At least the two of us are still on the same side.”
“Uncle Lin, I want some of that meat too,” Feihua said pitifully.
Lin Zhongtian hurriedly placed the entire dish in front of her and said kindly, “If you like it, eat more. Son, you can wait for now and let Ruixin have more.”
“Dad, that isn’t what you said just now!”
Lin Han instantly felt despair. Everything had changed.
Yet this lively, playful scene moved him deeply. Perhaps this was the kind of life he had truly been seeking.
After dinner, they each returned to their rooms to rest.
Lin Han stared at the snow-white ceiling, wondering how the Ma family would track him down.
