Chapter 124: Here, I'll Give You One Too!
"Why did you come over? Aren't you afraid my parents will misunderstand?" Feihua had already changed into casual clothes. She lay on the bed, her loose garments draping over her frame, as she played with her phone.
Lin Han sat on a chair nearby and said helplessly, "They’ve already misunderstood. No matter how I explain it, they just won't believe me."
"It seems your parents really like me as their daughter-in-law, then." Feihua said with a proud expression. She looked at Lin Han again, "Don't you think your big sister is amazing? I managed to handle your parents so easily."
"You're happy, but what about me?" Lin Han rolled his eyes.
"That’s none of my business. When the time comes, just say a few bad things about me to them. Worst case scenario, tell them I ran off with a rich man." Feihua smiled, having already paved the way for him. "Then your parents will hate me, and they won't be able to bring me up in front of you anymore."
"Whatever." Lin Han sighed.
"You didn't come to find me in the middle of the night just for this, did you?" Feihua asked suspiciously.
Lin Han replied, "Of course not. I came to give you something as an extra reward for this month."
"There's an extra reward?" Feihua's eyes lit up at the mention of a reward. She leaped off the bed and asked, "Did the little boss decide to pay more?"
Lin Han pulled a Supreme-tier dungeon invitation ticket from his clothes and placed it on the table. "This ticket allows one entry into a Supreme-tier dungeon. Since you just broke through to the Supreme Realm not long ago, this should be perfect for you."
Feihua said with some surprise, "You’re really willing to give this to me? It could sell for quite a lot on the market. I doubt Manager Liu has seen more than three of these in his entire life."
"I'm not giving them all to you; I kept two for myself," Lin Han said. "We might encounter many Supreme Realm powerhouses this time, so giving a little extra compensation isn't excessive."
"Since I've already accepted your five hundred million, I will see this through to the end. I still have that much sense of responsibility," Feihua said honestly.
"Then just consider me a friend and take it as a gift."
"A friend?"
Lin Han nodded. "That's right, a friend. After this month, our employment relationship will end, so it wouldn't be too much to call each other friends, right?"
"You're the first person to want to be friends with me." Feihua suddenly laughed. "I have a terrible temper, you know. I'm afraid you won't be able to handle it."
Lin Han said helplessly, "No matter how bad it is, you wouldn't kill me, would you?"
"What if I can't help it?"
"Then I’ll just have to pray for my own luck." Lin Han stood up. "Get some rest. I’m heading back; I have an interview tomorrow."
Lin Han walked out of the room and quietly closed the door. Watching the gap in the door slowly disappear and looking at the invitation ticket on the table, Feihua felt a strange, bittersweet sensation in her heart.
A friend? Ever since that incident, she hadn't made any friends...
The night passed in silence. At dawn, the sound of a rooster crowing woke Lin Han from his sleep.
"What's going on?" Lin Han threw on his clothes and rushed out of his room, only to see his mother holding a black-bone chicken.
"Mom, what is this for?"
Shen Mei walked toward the kitchen while saying, "I'm going to stew chicken soup for Ruixin tonight. You don't know how to cherish a young girl, but as your mother, I can't let others laugh at us."
"What are you even talking about?"
Feihua had also dressed and stepped out of the bedroom. She had slept surprisingly well—the most peaceful sleep she had enjoyed since becoming an assassin.
"Auntie, what is this?"
Lin Han said helplessly, "Stewing chicken soup for you tonight."
"Huh? Why the sudden chicken soup? Is that a tradition in your family?" Feihua asked, confused. She had never heard of such a thing.
Lin Han replied, "It's probably because she saw me enter your room last night and misunderstood something."
"I see..."
The two washed up briefly. Lin Han said, "Mom, Ruixin and I are heading out. We'll be back for dinner tonight."
"Alright."
"Little boss, where are we going?" Feihua was dressed very casually today; since Lin Han wanted her by his side, she couldn't stand out too much. If she were protecting him from the shadows, she would have been fully armed.
"Let's go see Manager Liu," Lin Han said. "I have two pieces of equipment to sell, and I have an interview at the Five Great Academies this afternoon."
"You and Manager Liu really do have a good relationship."
"It's alright. It's all based on mutual interest," Lin Han said simply.
Feihua suddenly remarked, "Although I am from the Millennium Commercial Capital, I still have to warn you: you should keep your guard up when it comes to Manager Liu."
"Why?"
"At the very least, from what I can see, Manager Liu’s attitude toward you is more than just a simple business relationship. It’s the first time I’ve heard of him actively helping someone."
"Maybe he just thinks highly of me? Thinks I'm young and promising." Lin Han acted nonchalant. He naturally knew Manager Liu might have ulterior motives, but as long as his own interests weren't compromised, he didn't care. Once he left Huiyue City, their relationship would naturally fade.
Feihua added, "I can't tell you much, just a word of caution."
"Do you know the name of the current head of the Millennium Commercial Capital?"
Lin Han had never looked into that. "No idea."
"You just need to know that the current head's surname is Liu."
"Surname Liu?"
Manager Liu was also surnamed Liu... Could it be that Manager Liu was actually the boss of the Millennium Commercial Capital, hiding in plain sight?
Though the thought crossed his mind, Lin Han immediately dismissed it. A big shot at that level wouldn't be doing such trivial things. It was likely just related to the family; there were many people named Liu, and coincidences happened. Perhaps he was just a branch member of the family. Even if Manager Liu was the head of a local branch, Huiyue City was, after all, a small city; if he were a direct descendant, being stationed here would be a slight to his status.
The two soon arrived at the Millennium Commercial Capital trading market. Upon learning of Lin Han's arrival, Manager Liu came out to greet him immediately.
"Mr. Lin, long time no see." Manager Liu smiled, then noticed Feihua standing beside him.
"I'm here to sell some items—just some ordinary equipment."
The group proceeded to a VIP room as if they were regulars. Lin Han placed the gear he had acquired over the recent period on the table. After a quick appraisal, Manager Liu offered a satisfactory price.
