Chapter 59 Dark Clouds
Riding in an aircraft arranged by the Operations Division, Leon quickly traveled from New York to Monterrey.
Shortly after, led by an agent from the Operations Division, he boarded a helicopter and flew toward the outskirts of the city.
Looking down at the prosperous yet chaotic city nestled among the mountains, he could not help but sigh inwardly:
'If this were back before my transmigration, I would probably never have come to such a dangerous place in my entire life.'
If one were to rank the factions and powers of the country where Leon currently found himself, it would basically go: Military > Cartels > Police. This alone showed just how chaotic this nation truly was.
Of course, for someone of his current stature, these things could no longer be considered dangerous.
Leon reined in his wandering thoughts and turned to ask the Operations Division agent beside him, "How did you manage to discover this dragon tomb?"
Faced with Leon's inquiry, the agent did not conceal anything: "The frequency of dragon resurrections has been getting higher and higher in recent years. Elsewhere it might be slightly better, but on this continent..."
"Sir, you should know that the myths of this continent are all accompanied by bloody sacrifices."
The myths of the Dragon race were, fundamentally, the history of the dragons.
And in the mythology of the American continent, the deities favored blood sacrifices above all else—with these so-called deities naturally being pure-blood dragons.
In other words, the pure-blood dragons of this continent adored bloody sacrifices.
Unfortunately, this was already the twenty-first century; the inexplicable disappearance of a large number of people would naturally draw the attention of law enforcement agencies.
And that was how the Operations Division caught the trail.
Leon naturally understood the agent's unspoken implication, but he still had another doubt: "In a place like this, wouldn't it be fine for you to directly use high-yield alchemical missiles?"
This place was not like the United States; in such a lawless and chaotic zone, there were ten thousand ways to sweep the use of high-powered weapons under the rug.
Hearing this, the agent was momentarily stunned: "This..."
"I don't know either. I was only told that higher-ups gave the order to proceed this way."
Yet upon hearing these words, a subtle sense of vigilance rose in Leon's heart.
His thoughts immediately went to Odin.
One had to bear in mind that the King of Heaven and Wind had no shortage of tentacles planted within the Secret Party. Though the probability was slim, he still had to guard against any underhanded tricks the entity might pull, even if no signs of it had surfaced thus far.
Just at that moment, the helicopter gradually neared its destination.
However, upon clearly observing the specific situation at the mission site, the agent beside Leon suddenly turned pale with shock: "Why have they already come out?! This doesn't match the estimated timeline?!"
In his view, the clearing that was originally supposed to serve as a landing zone for the helicopter was now in utter disarray, and a brown-skinned figure was actively hunting down the agents stationed in the clearing.
Without a doubt, the other party was the target of this operation—that fourth-generation dragon.
"Sir, this..."
The agent turned around, wanting to ask Leon what they should do next, only to find that he was the only person left inside the helicopter.
Looking back, he realized that Leon, who had just been standing right beside him, had somehow already appeared down in the clearing.
"???"
......
Deep within the dense rainforest, a vast swath of thick trees had been chopped down, clearing out a flat, open patch of land.
At this moment, a group of Operations Division agents stared like facing a formidable enemy at the pitch-black sinkhole periodically venting from the center of the clearing.
"Damn it, has the reinforcement mentioned by headquarters still not arrived?!"
"Just got word, they'll be here any second!"
Hearing this, the expressions of the personnel present darkened considerably.
Any second, any second—just when on earth was "any second"?!
Amidst the shouts and exchanges among the agents, a tall, brown-skinned man emerged from the dark cavity.
Surveying the group of agents, a look of utter disgust crossed his face: "Annoying mongrels. (Nahuatl)"
However, upon laying eyes on the figure, the agents first experienced a contraction of their pupils, followed immediately by expressions of wild elation: "Fire! Open fire! He hasn't completed dragonification!"
The next instant, a dense volley of gunfire erupted like a shower of rain.
As everyone knew, before completing dragonification, a dragon's physical body did not possess truly terrifying durability.
This was precisely why expressions of joy had lit up the agents' faces.
Unfortunately...
Their calculations were doomed to fail.
Accompanied by a cold snort, countless alchemical bullets abruptly halted in mid-air right beside the brown-skinned man, before clattering weakly to the ground.
Witnessing this scene, the agents froze in stunned silence.
Without a doubt, this was the power of a Word and Spirit.
Furthermore, it was the exact type of Word and Spirit that heavily countered firearms.
At this moment, a mocking expression appeared on the brown-skinned man's face. His eyes, glowing with a dark golden luster, swept across the personnel present, and then he spat out a contemptuous remark: "Boring struggle. (Nahuatl)"
"How dare mortals gaze upon the visage of a god. (Nahuatl)"
As his voice fell, an invisible current of air wrapped around the alchemical bullets scattered on the ground and began to slowly accelerate them.
Seeing this, the agents' pupils constricted: "Take cover!"
At that very moment, they realized a crucial fact: the target possessed at least two Words and Spirits!
One was used for defense, while the other was currently being employed to manipulate the metal objects on the ground.
No wonder this fourth-generation dragon dared to be so arrogant, walking out of the dragon tomb alone without completing dragonification.
Before the agents could ponder further, the alchemical bullets that had previously been fired at the brown-skinned man were hurled back in their entirety.
Bang, bang, bang—!
Numerous small craters instantly appeared on the ground, and quite a few agents who failed to dodge in time were stripped of their combat capability by the onslaught.
The brown-skinned man showed no trace of surprise at the results of his attack; with a cold expression, he merely prepared to step forward and harvest the lives of the fallen agents.
However, right at that moment, a massive tree trunk swept through the air with a whistling gale, hurtling at extreme speed toward the brown-skinned man.
He halted his movements and watched as the tree trunk disintegrated inch by inch right before him.
"Frail hands..."
The brown-skinned man cut himself off, narrowing his eyes slightly as he looked toward the pristine, pale figure slowly walking out of the rainforest.
Fixating on the other's pale golden eyes, he slowly spoke: "I didn't expect a mutated specimen like you to exist among these mongrels."
The newcomer was naturally Leon.
Having taken in the scene in the clearing, he had simply leaped straight out of the helicopter—a height that meant virtually nothing to him at his current level.
Hearing the brown-skinned man's words, Leon grinned, flashing a row of white teeth: "Mongrels, you say?"
"This is getting interesting."
Before his voice had even faded, his entire body transformed into a streak of afterimages as he charged directly toward the brown-skinned man.
Feeling the fierce wind rushing against his face, a flicker of astonishment flashed in the brown-skinned man's eyes.
Could this level of physical strength really be mastered by those frail mongrels? Even with the enhancement of a Word and Spirit, isn't this a bit too exaggerated?!
