036: Go find Li Cha, or else you will die (Please vote for monthly tickets and keep reading!)
Susan had recovered, yet she had also forgotten the events of the past few days.
Lady Vena sat by her side, feeding her precious daughter while speaking in a calm, measured tone. She recounted how Susan had returned from outside that day, first suffering from a high fever, only to wake up and fall into an uncontrollable rage.
Under normal circumstances, a bit of temper due to a bad mood would have been fine. But Susan had brandished a knife, wounded two maids, and in the dead of night, skinned her beloved kitten, Elizabeth. It did not end there; these cruel acts were witnessed by the night watchman. To make matters worse, she had actually said to him, "Keep this a secret, and you may have me." The servant, terrified by the incident, had reported it immediately; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Regrettably, Susan had no memory of any of this. Before falling asleep, she merely asked, "Mother, who is Doctor Licha?"
Doctor Licha... Lady Vena did not have much of an impression of him either, though she knew he was the one who had cured her daughter’s hysteria.
...
In the dead of night, Susan jolted awake from her dreams. She remembered that man. Licha possessed demonic power and knew everything about her! Cold sweat drenched Susan, and she immediately prepared to get out of bed to tell her mother.
However, for some reason, Susan’s legs had lost all sensation. She tried to call for help, only to find that she had also lost the ability to speak.
"!!!"
"!!!"
Licha! ... It must be his doing! He was a servant of the devil, and because she had offended him, he was using such methods to torment her.
In fear and humiliation, the night passed. Susan had wet herself in terror, the sheets remaining soaked throughout the night. By the next day, everything returned to normal. The only difference was that Susan had once again forgotten about Licha.
As a young lady recovering from a serious illness, Susan’s primary task remained rest. But when night fell, the memories surged back, and Susan immediately shed tears of regret. She desperately wanted to say, "I was wrong, I truly know I was wrong, and I am willing to apologize for my malice and rudeness!..." She wanted to beg Master Licha for another chance; she did not want to die in such torment.
How did Susan know she would die? Because the areas that had lost sensation were spreading. Last night, only her legs were paralyzed. Tonight, the numbness had reached her waist. Susan felt that when this creeping paralysis reached her head, it would be the end of her life.
On the third night, Susan completely broke down.
The numbness had risen to her chest. Just then, Lady Vena walked in carrying a crystal lamp to check on her daughter. Fearing exposure, Susan pretended to be fast asleep, only letting her tears fall after her mother had left.
She felt immense regret now—regret that the first thing she had thought of upon waking was to silence the witness. She had been born into a noble family. By then, the Kevin family was already a major landowner in Saint Anne City. Her father and mother had taught her that the slaves they bought were no different from the pigs they raised, and that the commoners outside were all lower-class beings. It was only natural for them to serve and die for the nobility; Susan’s life was ten thousand times more precious than theirs.
All her life, everything Susan had seen and heard had reinforced this. Even when she had developed a spirit of adventure and formed an adventurer squad, those lower-class people—regardless of gender—had treated her with absolute reverence, as if they would gladly kneel and lick her boots clean.
Yet, what Susan had not expected was that when faced with the threat of death, she and those "pigs" and "lower-class people" became indistinguishable.
She was afraid. Susan was terrified. Her life had only just begun, and she did not want it to end like this. Susan gritted her teeth so hard she bit her lip. She buried her head in the quilt and sobbed silently. Finally, Susan made up her mind: "I must go find him!"
...
Dawn broke. Unsurprisingly, Susan had forgotten everything that happened the previous night. However, her lip was sore, and she saw a bloody arrow on her pillow. The arrow pointed downward, very clearly. Under the pillow, she found a note covered in blood-red writing:
[Go find Licha, go find Licha!]
[You must go find Licha, or you will die!]
[Susan, keep this a secret, tell no one, and find a way to reach Doctor Licha quickly—hurry!]
...
After reading these words, Susan’s head twitched violently. She did not know why she needed to find Licha. She felt fine; although still somewhat weak, the Kevin family physician had already provided a detailed health report, and Susan only needed a few more days of rest to recover completely.
But these words were undoubtedly written by her own hand. Susan could not fail to recognize her own handwriting. She could even sense the urgency radiating from the text.
Thus, without the slightest hesitation, Susan crumpled the paper and swallowed it. She tore the pillow stained with the bloody arrow to shreds. With the evidence destroyed, the day went on.
Miss Susan cooperated perfectly with her rehabilitation therapy. When night fell, she made up a random excuse and "went to sleep." As a level 12 adventurer, Susan was agile. Moreover, she had extensive experience in sneaking out of the house. Perhaps in the past, her parents would have sent people to watch her, but now, they didn't at all. It took less than a quarter of an hour for Susan to jump out the window and depart the Kevin estate.
...
After eight in the evening, Licha finished a casual dinner and returned to the Charlie Psychological Clinic in the outer district.
At the Intelligence Bureau—or rather, the recruit training led by the "Iceberg Major" Freya—nothing had changed after the weekend. The intensity was high, the instructor was heartless, and she would frequently throw out snide, sarcastic remarks. Licha truly wanted to kill her, but unfortunately, he couldn't beat her.
Since the failure of his "bitch" remark, Licha had been more restrained in his post-training probes, and he still hadn't figured out what exactly was wrong with Freya. However, Licha’s acceptance of the recruit training had increased significantly. First, the training earned him experience points and boosted his attributes. Currently, Licha was only a few plants away from reaching level 9. His sword-wielding attack power had finally broken the 100 mark, reaching 101.
Second, the training did indeed improve his practical combat ability. His battle against Susan at the Kevin estate was the best proof. Regardless of the circumstances, Licha, at a single-digit level, had suppressed a level 12 adventurer. Even if she was incompetent, it gave Licha a fresh perspective on his own strength.
"I am not weak. At least not as pathetic as I imagined."
The recruit training certainly deserved credit for this. Therefore, Licha still found Freya—who rarely showed any expression—an eyesore... ahem.
Just as Licha stepped inside and prepared to turn on the lights, a figure flashed behind him and firmly restrained his neck. A coarse, hoarse male voice followed: "Doctor Licha, I heard you've made a lot of money lately. How about taking some out for the boys to spend?"
Licha said, "Sure."
Then, he blew the man’s heart out with a single shot.
