Chapter 63: Peril

Half an hour passed in the blink of an eye. Xiao Mo abruptly opened her eyes from her resting state, only to find herself sleeping against someone's chest. Her face instantly flushed crimson, and she leaped straight up! Looking back, she saw that the guy was sprawled out in a star shape, snoring with his mouth wide open, and even a bit of drool at the corner of his lips! "Pfft!" Xiao Mo couldn't help but chuckle. This guy actually looked quite cute when he was sleeping! But wasn't he supposed to wake her up? How was he still asleep himself?!

Suddenly, a mischievous smile crept onto Xiao Mo's face. She squatted down in front of Lin Zheng and pinched his nose! As soon as she pinched it, Lin Zheng immediately stopped snoring, his face slowly starting to turn red, until finally...

"Hoo—" Gasping heavily for air, Lin Zheng sat right up. Meanwhile, Xiao Mo had already stood up straight, putting on an innocent look and whistling leisurely to herself.

"Uh—is it dawn?" Lin Zheng blurted out, clearly still not fully awake.

"Dawn your head! Didn't you say you were going to wake me up? You were sleeping like a dead pig yourself! Hmph—"

"..." Lin Zheng remembered. He was still inside a game dungeon; he had just thought he was sleeping in a bed! Stretching lazily, Lin Zheng stood up and smiled at Xiao Mo, "Xiao Mo, why didn't you give me a good morning kiss!?"

"Go to hell—" Annoyed and embarrassed, Xiao Mo immediately kicked Lin Zheng, who laughed heartily as he dodged, feeling completely energized!

"Alright, the Ghost-God cooldown is over. It's time to start dealing with this boss!" Lin Zheng stared at the Black Knight Commander, and Xiao Mo also adjusted her state, ready to strike at any moment! "The usual rule: I go in first, and once the boss drops to four-fifths of its health, you jump in!" With that, Lin Zheng drew the Shattered Moon and charged forward! Just as he ran the first dozen steps or so, the boss reacted, abruptly standing up from its stone chair, pulling out a massive black greatsword, and letting out a formidable roar toward the sky. At the same time, four gray skull shields appeared around the boss, looking extremely imposing!

Lin Zheng's eyes widened. The fellow in front of him was the absolute image of a "player terminator." If it weren't for the formidable anti-undead super skill Ghost-God, Lin Zheng would have turned tail and run! "Ghost-God!" Lin Zheng shouted loudly, and the phantom of the Ghost-God appeared once again. In an instant, the boss's arrogant momentum was significantly reduced! Lin Zheng didn't stand on ceremony with the boss, stepping up to deliver two strikes. However, what troubled Lin Zheng was that these two strikes only dealt around 2,700 damage. It seemed the Shield of the Dead surrounding the boss absorbed a significant portion of the damage! What was even more troubling was that +587 and +563 healing values floated above the boss's head. Damn it, absorbing damage was already outrageous, but it even shamelessly converted part of the damage into health!

Lin Zheng viciously despised the boss, then swiftly switched to a dagger to deal a strike to the boss, preventing it from recovering health through attacks!

"Mortals! Your foolishness will bring you a tragic death! Crescent Blade!" The boss roared angrily, its giant sword sweeping out a black crescent slash that struck Lin Zheng. Lin Zheng's heart tightened; if this skill happened to be one of those damn direct damage attacks, it would be terrible! However, Lin Zheng quickly breathed a sigh of relief because he only lost a dozen or so health points. Still, Lin Zheng didn't let his guard down, because the boss still had another skill it hadn't used yet—Soul Severing! Just hearing the name felt incredibly formidable! And a move like severing the soul was nine times out of ten direct damage, so Lin Zheng was genuinely worried about whether he might be instantly killed!

Continuing the attack, every ten seconds or so, Lin Zheng would switch to his dagger to hit the boss once, preventing it from absorbing damage and healing, maintaining a very rhythmic battle. In the middle, the boss used Crescent Blade a few more times. Lin Zheng estimated that the cooldown for this skill was only 10 seconds. While the damage reduction status protected him from this skill's lethal power, he figured that the skill of a level 60 Dark Gold boss couldn't be too bad. He couldn't help but silently mourn for future dungeon teams; facing this boss, they were going to be in big trouble! Soon, the boss's health dropped by a fifth, and Xiao Mo stepped forward once again to assist!

As soon as she arrived, Xiao Mo immediately activated Lethal Pierce. Instantly, her rapier emitted an eerie red glow, adding a gorgeous visual and auditory effect to her consecutive piercing attacks! Each of Xiao Mo's regular stabs dealt around 900 damage to the boss. However, using Lethal Pierce for the first time, Xiao Mo's luck exploded instantly, triggering Lethal Pierce twice! "Crack! Crack!" Two massive damage numbers floated above the boss: -37,500 and -56,250! The boss's health was instantly reduced by 25%!

"Roar!——" The boss went berserk, its aggro instantly shifting to Xiao Mo. It brought its sword down upon her in a cleave, and a fatal -5,640 damage figure popped up. Xiao Mo's health emptied out in the blink of an eye! Lin Zheng was startled immediately. "Burst!" he shouted loudly, stomping his foot onto the boss's lower abdomen. "Bang—" His field of vision flashed with fire, and the boss instantly flew backward, a massive damage figure of -22,500 floating above its head before it crashed with a loud "boom" against the black wall!

"Step back for now! Wait until I secure the boss's aggro before you come back up!" Lin Zheng shouted loudly, then charged toward the boss. Xiao Mo nodded, retreating far away from the boss, watching as Lin Zheng sprinted swiftly to the boss's side to resume his attacks!

"Mortals, I am already tired of your foolishness. I will tear your souls to pieces! Take this! Soul Severing!" The enraged boss roared, wielding the black greatsword in its hand for a sweeping strike. Lin Zheng managed to miss the boss's greatsword physical attack, but he couldn't dodge the ring of expanding gray sword aura. "Whoosh—" The sword aura pierced right through his body, -7,953! Yet another fatal, massive chunk of damage. However, ignoring the fact that he was left with less than 1,000 health points, Lin Zheng turned back in horror to see that the gray sword aura was expanding rapidly, reaching Xiao Mo's vicinity in the blink of an eye. With this sword aura's abnormal lethality, let alone the fact that Xiao Mo's health wasn't full yet, even at full health she wouldn't be able to survive a single hit!

Xiao Mo stared in shock at the sword aura that had just shaved off nearly 8,000 health from Lin Zheng. Seeing the sword aura sweep toward her in an instant, Xiao Mo rolled backward in sheer panic, feeling extremely uncertain about whether she could dodge this fatal sword aura! Flipping up from her roll into a crouch, Xiao Mo's pupils suddenly constricted because the sword aura was already right in front of her eyebrows!

"Whoosh—" A light breeze blew across Xiao Mo's eyes. Both Xiao Mo and Lin Zheng froze in place. Just a fraction of an inch short, the sword aura vanished!

"I'm okay!" Xiao Mo shouted to Lin Zheng with a delighted expression!

"Yeah! I see you are, still jumping around and full of life!" Without waiting for Xiao Mo's glare, Lin Zheng turned around and continued attacking the boss, though he let out a long breath of relief!

The boss's aggro was once again drawn by Lin Zheng, and Xiao Mo stepped forward to assist as well. Without the effect of Lethal Pierce, Xiao Mo's output became extremely steady, easily managing the boss's aggro. The boss's target remained consistently on Lin Zheng, sealing its tragic fate. Before long, the boss finally let out a roar of sorrow and indignation, turning into a pile of armor on the ground and dropping a massive amount of treasure!

"Whoosh—" Lin Zheng leveled up, finally reaching level 50! At the same time, the system notification he had been waiting for for a long time finally rang out!
