Chapter 61 All Eyes on Me
Wang Manny?
Wasn't the person who ordered the meal surnamed Wang?
Could it be the same person?
"Thank you."
Liu Zheng replied politely, then stepped out of the elevator.
Outside was a long corridor with offices on both sides.
"401, 402, 403, found it."
He pushed the door open and entered.
Inside was a massive space, densely packed with cross-shaped cubicles. At a glance, there were at least a hundred workstations.
Hearing the commotion, the employees behind their desks raised their heads one after another.
Over a hundred faces of varying styles stared at Liu Zheng, almost triggering his trypophobia.
"Ahem, excuse me, which one is Manager Wang? The food he ordered has arrived."
He lifted his delivery box to indicate.
"Manager Wang is in a meeting. Give it to me, I'll give it to him later."
A woman with a 3D-style face stepped forward and walked up to Liu Zheng.
"And you are?"
"I'm his secretary."
The woman said.
He looked at the woman's chest, where her employee badge clearly read:
Sales Department Specialist, Wang Manny.
"How long will his meeting last?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"Hard to say. Could be ten minutes, could be an hour."
Wang Manny said.
"Then where is he holding the meeting? I can deliver it directly."
"What? Are you afraid I'll steal his takeout?"
Wang Manny let out a coy laugh.
Hats off to her figure, which was quite impressive. Her custom-made skirt was also very eye-catching, and her 3D-modeled face was of corporate-giant caliber.
Smashable.
Normally, Liu Zheng wouldn't mind bantering with her.
Even knowing this broad wasn't human.
But now that he knew she was a bitch, the appeal vanished instantly, leaving only annoyance.
He was a decent man who only liked pure-yet-alluring aesthetics.
"Yes, very afraid."
So he answered bluntly.
"My skirt alone costs over eight thousand, and you're worried I'll steal takeout?"
Wang Manny burst into exaggerated laughter.
Yet she controlled her pitch well, avoiding any sense of discomfort.
"Do rich people not steal takeout?"
Liu Zheng raised an eyebrow.
"I know a tree that even fights over urine. Yet it can casually afford a bottle of Vlad III Limited Edition."
"Are you richer than it?"
Wang Manny's smile faded. She felt like this delivery guy was being dead serious.
She felt a brief sense of awkwardness, which quickly turned into irritation.
"Since you know such rich people, why are you still delivering food?"
She asked sarcastically.
"Because the city is big, and I want to see the world."
Liu Zheng's reply left Wang Manny speechless, so she steered the conversation back to the main point.
"Manager Wang doesn't like to be disturbed during meetings. Either you hand it to me, or you wait for him to finish."
He glanced at his phone. Half an hour left.
Actually, how much time was left didn't matter; that Manager Wang certainly wouldn't obediently return before the deadline.
He knew this type of customer all too well.
Just as Liu Zheng was about to speak, he suddenly remembered the security guard's warning:
Argue in private, fight in public.
Liu Zheng sized up Wang Manny. She possessed a standard thin-and-pale aesthetic; a single tentacle of his could take down ten of her.
Yet considering her high income, in a world where everything revolved around money, her combat power probably wasn't weak.
Therefore, he decided to switch tactics.
"The delivery can wait. That skirt you're wearing is gorgeous. Where did you buy it? I want to buy one for my girlfriend, too."
Liu Zheng said with a beaming smile.
"Huh?"
Wang Manny was utterly thrown off.
She had just prepared to unleash her full firepower, yet he was moving faster than a Frenchman.
Her lingering anger had nowhere to go, but since one doesn't hit a smiling person, she had no choice but to reply.
"This is custom-made by a tailor. He only accepts reservations from high-income individuals."
Wang Manny emphasized the words "high-income."
"Perfect. My girlfriend is an executive chef's assistant at the Bloody Restaurant. That should count as high-income, right?"
Liu Zheng said with a smile.
He had checked; Salmon was a female cat.
Though taking a cat as a girlfriend was a bit strange, there was no help for it.
He wasn't human anymore anyway.
He couldn't just use a beast-of-burden or a white-feathered chicken as a placeholder, could he?
The French plane tree? It wasn't even certain if that thing had a gender.
As for Si Xue, Liu Zheng wouldn't dare.
He feared being squashed flat the moment he opened his mouth.
Oh, and he'd forgotten about the novelist.
Never mind, it was a minor issue.
"Well..."
Wang Manny hesitated.
An executive chef's assistant at the Bloody Restaurant certainly qualified as a high-income individual.
"A high-income person as beautiful and generous as you wouldn't be unwilling to share, right?"
Liu Zheng feigned surprise.
Of course Wang Manny was unwilling to share.
If someone else wore the exact same outfit, wouldn't her money have been wasted?
Clashing outfits aren't scary; whoever is uglier feels the awkwardness.
That applied to regular clothes—who would want to clash in custom-made attire?
Yet, feeling the gazes of her colleagues upon her, Wang Manny simply couldn't refuse.
"Of course no problem. Jot down the number."
She forced a smile and rattled off a string of digits.
Liu Zheng memorized it diligently; his memory was exceptionally good right now anyway.
Besides, it might come in handy.
"I noticed your earrings are stunning, too, exuding that exquisite aristocratic vibe. If I bought these for my girlfriend, she'd be so happy she'd propose to me on the spot."
Liu Zheng said with a completely serious expression.
"Hahaha."
The employees in the office burst into laughter.
Wang Manny couldn't help but crack a slight smile either.
"That won't do. Proposals have to come from the guys, right, girls?"
She said.
"Assistant Wang is right."
The female employees chimed in enthusiastically.
Feeling that she had won over more hearts, pride swelled within Wang Manny.
"Assistant Wang clearly has great people skills. Just one sentence and so many people respond."
Liu Zheng said enviously.
"Haha, everyone's just playing along."
Wang Manny's smile grew a bit more sincere.
"Oh, right. Thanks for giving me the tailor's number, Assistant Wang. This cup of coffee is for you."
"I don't drink... Uh, thank you."
She had originally intended to say she didn't drink external coffee, but upon seeing it was Bad Luck Coffee, she swallowed the words back down.
After all, refusing even Bad Luck Coffee would make her look uncooperative.
A half-sugar caramel macchiato topped with exquisite latte art, perfectly suited for the tastes of an urban belle like her.
Wang Manny even suspected this delivery guy secretly had a crush on her; otherwise, why would the coffee he brought be so spot-on?
Between the flattery and the coffee, after this whole sequence of events, she honestly couldn't bring herself to intentionally make things difficult for him anymore.
After all, so many colleagues were watching.
"Follow me."
Wang Manny set the coffee down and beckoned to Liu Zheng.
"Coming right up."
He followed Wang Manny to a small door.
Wang Manny gave a soft knock with her knuckles.
"What is it?"
An irritable voice came from inside.
"Manager Wang, your delivery has arrived."
Wang Manny said in a professional corporate voice.
"I'm in a meeting, make him wait."
Manager Wang said impatiently.
Wang Manny looked at Liu Zheng, who pointed at his phone and shook his head.
"The delivery time is almost up, and the delivery guy is in a rush. Do you think you could come out and grab it real quick?"
Wang Manny thought of the caramel macchiato, gritted her teeth, and spoke up.
"Are you annoying or what? Can't you just sign for it for me?"
Manager Wang's voice bordered on a roar.
"You can't even handle a small task like this, what are you even useful for as an assistant?"
Wang Manny's face turned pale from the shouting.
She shook her head at Liu Zheng, signaling her helplessness.
"Thank you, Ms. Wang. You've already helped a lot."
Liu Zheng thanked her sincerely.
"If not, you can wait a bit longer. I'll ask for you again in ten minutes."
Sensing his sincerity, Wang Manny was willing to offer a bit more help.
"No need. Even if we wait ten hours, he still won't sign for it. In their eyes, only their own time is time."
Liu Zheng shook his head.
"Then what do you plan to do?"
Wang Manny asked.
"Me?"
He smiled, then turned to face the cubicles and took a deep breath.
"All eyes on me, please!"
He bellowed.
The employees who had been secretly monitoring them all raised their heads.
"I have an announcement to make."
Liu Zheng scanned the room, making sure every single employee's gaze was locked onto him.
"Management is a bunch of assholes!"
He kicked the meeting room door wide open.
