Chapter 63: The Evil God Is Indeed Shameless
Everyone who was watching.
Everyone paralyzed and weakened by the gaze of the evil god stared with dull eyes at the scene unfolding before them.
On one side stood Retaink, a gigantic, monster-like maggot.
On the other side stood Canna, an ordinary human being.
This stark contrast of a combination, however, presented a spectacle that left all the dwarves utterly astonished.
All the attacks of Retaink, who had defeated every dwarf warrior and earned the title of champion, were like the flailing of a child before Canna.
Far from striking Canna, Canna was able to dodge using various acrobatic techniques, seizing the initiative and inflicting damage upon him.
Despite such a disparate disparity in size during the combat, Retaink had even been disarmed.
If this had happened in a formal duel, Retaink would have lost completely and utterly.
This was the kind of phenomenon that only occurred during a crushing defeat.
It was precisely this act of being disarmed that plunged Retaink into a state of utter disbelief.
For a moment, he even doubted his deity, and doubted himself.
The blow to him was simply too immense.
Coupled with Canna’s final remark,
he could not help asking himself: "Is all of this really worth it?"
He received no answer; the instinct for survival forced him to focus solely on the battle at hand.
Canna’s sword stroke had been aimed at taking his life.
He forced his head to deviate, letting the blade brutally slice open his torso.
A huge horizontal gash appeared across his body, and a large amount of fluids and viscera gushed out from within.
Fortunately, however, this blow did not take his life.
Seizing the opportunity, he fiercely slammed his palm down, sending Canna flying.
Canna raised his shield to block the impact, landing on the ground and sliding back a distance before steadying himself.
As expected, reality was far more realistic than a video game.
In a game, this kind of blow would already signal a definitive execution, but in reality, he would not just submissively and defenselessly allow himself to be hacked to death in one strike.
Still, it merely raised the difficulty a notch; today, he was destined to die.
"You damned flea, you shall surely perish here!"
As he spoke, Retaink instinctively tried to reach out and pull the Prince's Sword out of his left arm.
Only then did he realize that the Prince's Sword was no longer there.
Without him noticing when, the Prince's Sword had been plunged into the worm-like body behind his back, and Canna was already closing the distance once more along the trail of blood ropes.
The charging Canna filled Retaink's eyes with genuine terror.
He shouted at the top of his lungs, "O my god! Please grant me—"
Yet it seemed he received no response, which only deepened the terror in his eyes.
"It seems you have been abandoned!"
Canna had closed in, his blade poised in a thrusting posture.
"In the name of the Grey Mountains!"
The blade was wreathed in lightning, yet it flickered with the heavy, grey radiance of solid rock.
An ordinary one-handed sword had transformed at this moment into a massive greatsword elongated by pure light.
"Thud!"
The sound of a blade piercing flesh.
The radiance savagely pierced into Retaink's body.
"You... human, you, damn you!"
Retaink glared viciously at Canna, as if casting some fatal curse upon him.
A massive surge of green energy violently rushed into Canna's body, and the immense wave of green aura blasted Canna flying backward.
Yet the blade remained deeply impaled within the enemy's body.
Canna was violently slammed into the ground not far away, sliding across the dirt for a considerable distance.
"Ahhhhh, human, damn you, we shall rot together!"
This was a forced skill triggered by the invasion of a higher power.
The maggot's body began to melt, rotting away into a mass of foul flesh.
Leaving behind only the agonizing screams of Retaink.
Canna's condition, however, did not look very promising either; his entire body was covered in green light, and even his skin began to show signs akin to dissolution.
At a pace visible to the naked eye, he grew extremely weak.
Under the stacking effects of extreme weakness, plague, and corruption, Canna grew too feeble to even crawl back up.
Indeed, foul entities like evil gods simply played dirty.
Still, the enemy had been eliminated.
"Hahaha, the traitor has already—" The weakened Getary wanted to roar aloud.
However, the equally weakened Eric bellowed, "Something's wrong, watch out!"
From within that pile of rotting flesh, an arm that looked as though it were melting reached out.
A diminutive human figure crawled out from the decaying mass.
He no longer had skin, nor even facial features, resembling nothing more than a humanoid lump of rotting meat.
Yet from his mouth, Retaink's voice still resonated.
"Hahaha, cough, haha, my god... my god still watches over me."
Retaink staggered, swaying as he walked toward Canna.
"Cough, cough, human, no... your name is Canna, right? You are a warrior, I lost."
He swayed, his voice frail, carrying even a hint of a miserable chuckle.
"Pity that I am still alive, and my god has still granted me power. My god is pleased with you.
Haha, you shall become like me, embracing eternal life. Come, come..."
He muttered as he staggered forward, stretching out his hands, dragging a body that seemed ready to fall apart at any second, slowly making his way toward Canna, who lay paralyzed on the ground.
"Despicable! Damned evil god!" Getary roared in the distance, but he could do nothing more than roar.
The gaze of the evil god had not shifted away; they remained completely paralyzed in place, capable of nothing more than howling with madness.
"Forsaken child!"
"Damned traitor! Stop!"
Everyone capable of speech cursed and roared frantically, attempting to halt Retaink's actions.
"They are only fit to be ignorant, rotting servants. Only you, you alone Canna, shall become the warrior of the evil god.
You shall become the vanguard of my god, hahaha."
"Then are you jealous? You've done all this, and yet you still fall short of me," Canna suddenly said.
"You! You..." This remark instantly infuriated Retaink to the extreme, angering him to the point where his rotting body threatened to disintegrate and collapse.
Fortunately, he managed to regain his composure. "You truly are a damned human, but you are about to plunge into the embrace of my god."
"Indeed, loser. When I become the champion warrior under the evil god's command, a loser like you will only be able to take orders from me. Haha, you're in for a hard time then," Canna taunted unbridledly.
Acting precisely like someone backed into a corner.
"You!" Retaink's voice rose by several octaves; clearly, he wanted nothing more than to smash Canna to pieces.
Yet his body instantly trembled, freezing in place.
"Yes, yes, I shall carry out your will."
Evidently, he had received a warning from the evil god.
Regardless of Canna's continued taunts, he did not utter another word.
"Tch, how boring."
Entities like evil gods truly had no shame, though he hadn't expected them to have any to begin with.
Watching Retaink, who was about to grab him with his hands, Canna said unhurriedly,
"Failure has permeated your entire existence from the very moment you betrayed us, you coward!"
As he spoke, Canna spat a mouthful of blood savagely at Retaink.
He bit down on his tongue, and the surging blood transformed into a lethal, bloody dart that pierced straight through Retaink's head in an instant.
Retaink's head jerked backward as it was pierced through.
All the dwarves held their breath. Could this strike...
"Useless."
Retaink's movements suffered no hindrance whatsoever; he snapped his head back straight and sneered mockingly.
"Idiot, that was a guidance marker."
"Whoosh!"
A sphere suddenly shot out from the rear, originating from Aliris's position, and smashed fiercely into Retaink's body.
At the front of the sphere was a pointed tip formed of blood.
Upon impact, the blood surged directly into the interior of that rotting carcass along the wound.
Canna abruptly raised his hand and made a grasping motion toward him.
Further back, Aliris, straining with all her might, also raised her arm in the direction of Retaink.
She had not been the primary focus of the evil god's attention, and thus endured the same pressure as the others, but her spiritual resilience was clearly superior to the rest.
Only then could one see a deep wound across Aliris's palm, from which the blood had originated.
As both of them clenched their hands into a tight fist simultaneously,
"Blood Magic" was activated.
The blood that had poured into Retaink's rotting carcass exploded from within, turning the entire decaying body into a cloud of fine dust and pus.
Only a faint, lingering whisper remained suspended in the air.
That was the reluctant roar of the evil god's fury.
This time, lacking a concrete, powerful believer below to project his power outward, he had no choice but to withdraw his gaze and be driven away by the world.
The foul stench faded, and the weakness weighing upon everyone dissipated along with it.
"By the mountains!"
