Chapter 56: Weapons
Liang Dan clapped her hands and smiled, saying, “Now all we have to do is wait.”
Zhao Xiaoli’s face was full of excitement. “Good luck to him.”
Suddenly remembering something, Liang Dan asked, “Since you know so much information, do you know how many players are in this dungeon?”
Yao Meng shook her head. “No, there’s no limit to the number of players in a dungeon. It’s impossible to tell.”
“I’m still too weak,” Liang Dan said. “I can’t protect those players while revealing their identities. If only we had a more powerful weapon that could attack from a distance.”
Yao Meng’s eyes lit up. “You mean, a gun?”
Liang Dan hurriedly asked, “Do you have one?”
“No,” Yao Meng said, “but when I passed the second floor earlier, I saw someone spraying bullets with a gun. If we could take his gun or recruit him to join us, it might be very effective.”
Liang Dan stood up. “Then what are we waiting for? While your skin is still usable, let’s go find him.”
Han Yuan said, “We’ll come too.”
Zhang Xiaoli nodded repeatedly.
Liang Dan was about to refuse, but Yao Meng said, “Better take them along. If you don’t, they might follow secretly, which would be more dangerous.”
Liang Dan had no choice but to agree.
*
Liang Dan retrieved the weapon she had thrown in the vice principal’s office some time ago. Zhang Xiaoli and Han Yuan each carried a wooden stick torn off from a chair.
The four moved cautiously, climbing the stairs. The steps were stained with blood, making the ascent slippery.
The surroundings were eerily silent; apart from their footsteps, there was no other sound.
They then realized that, at some point, they could no longer hear any noise from upstairs.
A sense of foreboding crept over Liang Dan.
Liang Dan and Yao Meng flanked Zhang Xiaoli and Han Yuan, one in front and one behind.
They reached the top step when a black long rifle came down from above, the barrel resting on Liang Dan’s shoulder.
She looked up and met the gaze of a middle-aged woman.
The woman lifted the rifle, a faint smile playing in her eyes. “You finally decided to come up.”
“So it’s you,” Liang Dan said. “Where’s your iron rod?”
The woman lowered the gun. “Put it away. I just got a new weapon. Like it?”
Liang Dan stared at the gun, unable to hide her excitement. “I like it. Can you give it to me?”
The woman placed the gun on the floor, smiling slightly. “Sure, it’s yours.”
Red text flashed before Liang Dan’s eyes:
“Congratulations to the peerless benevolent soul Liang Dan, for obtaining the weapon ‘Rifle’.”
Liang Dan’s eyes widened in disbelief. Her voice trembled, “You really gave it to me?”
She should have shot herself, not given herself a gun!
The woman tilted her head and extended a hand. “It’s just a weapon. Consider it a gesture of friendship. Let me introduce myself—I’m Jiang Yunxiao.”
Liang Dan shook her hand. “I’m Liang Dan. That one at the back is Yao Meng, also a player. As for these two, they’re natives here.”
Han Yuan said, “Hello, I’m Han Yuan, and this is Zhao Xiaoli.”
Jiang Yunxiao gave a very friendly smile. “Nice to meet you.”
Liang Dan felt a chill crawl over her scalp looking at that smile.
If she hadn’t hung the old man’s corpse from the lamp after killing him, she might have believed in that friendliness.
Yao Meng stepped forward. “What about the guy with the gun earlier?”
Jiang Yunxiao’s tone was calm. “I killed him.”
Then she added, “Don’t misunderstand me—I’m not a villain who kills indiscriminately. I killed him to stop his evil deeds. Maybe you didn’t see how he sprayed bullets on every floor.”
Liang Dan’s heart tightened. “Did he kill many people?”
“Yes,” Jiang Yunxiao said. “Now, there are only about fifty survivors left in this entire building.”
Liang Dan asked, “How do you know?”
“To protect them, I gathered them together, waiting for you to come up.”
Jiang Yunxiao’s eyes gleamed. “Liang Dan... my dearest friend, I’ve been waiting for you a long time.”
Liang Dan looked at her enthusiasm and felt it was even more terrifying than before. “Waiting for what?”
Jiang Yunxiao said, “Because you moved me deeply. In this world where people hurt each other, there’s still someone like you—a good person.
“I started to reflect on myself. I shouldn’t have gone so far before. After thorough reflection, I decided to join your team, to protect everyone together and get us all out of this dungeon!”
Liang Dan’s mouth twitched. “Please speak plainly.”
Jiang Yunxiao’s smile vanished. “I stole a new skill. Now I can see your title.”
Liang Dan snapped, “So now you believe me when I say I just want everyone to get out alive?”
Jiang Yunxiao nodded. “I do.”
Liang Dan stepped forward and picked up the rifle. “Thank you for the gift.”
After that, Liang Dan moved on, and Jiang Yunxiao’s group hurried to follow.
Yao Meng whispered, “Liang Dan promised me earlier that I’d be the second person to complete the mission. You know she can’t go back on her word.”
Jiang Yunxiao smiled. “No problem. We’re all friends here.”
Liang Dan caught the strong scent of blood in the corridor on the second floor.
Suddenly, someone leapt out from around the corner, shouting, “I’ll kill you!”
Liang Dan dodged, and the person fell to the ground.
“It’s you,” Liang Dan said. “Bald old patient, you’re still alive?”
The bald man’s eye sockets were empty. He sprawled on the floor, groping about. “It’s you, you bastard! I’ll kill you!”
Jiang Yunxiao strode forward and kicked the bald man in the stomach. He rolled on the ground.
Jiang Yunxiao scolded, “How can you treat my guest like that?”
Liang Dan asked, “What’s wrong with his eyes?”
“He leered at girls, so I gouged them out.”
Hearing this, Liang Dan found Jiang Yunxiao a bit more endearing. This reminded her of Yang Liqing from the last dungeon.
Jiang Yunxiao said, “Our esteemed broadcaster, please come in.”
Liang Dan turned a corner and at first saw countless corpses on the ground, then many people tied up.
Jiang Yunxiao somehow procured thick ropes, binding every living person and placing them in a corner.
As they entered, all eyes turned to them.
Zhang Xiaoli ran over and rushed to a tied-up woman. “Gang Er, are you okay? Gang Er?”
Gang Er replied, “I’m fine. Gang Yi, how about Gang San?”
Zhang Xiaoli nodded, then shook her head. “I’m okay, but Gang San is missing. She was also replaced by a player.”
Gang Er’s face was full of shock. “Gang Yi, how can you mix with these players? Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
