Chapter 10: The Uzi Submachine Gun.
"Are you... here to surrender?"
The law enforcement officer who stepped forward to inquire peered at the dilapidated vehicle, its hood mangled and smeared with blood. He kept his right hand on his belt, his eyes filled with vigilance as he looked up at Chen Jiang.
Chen Jiang tilted his head and glanced at the hood.
The car had been moving too fast. They had knocked over quite a few people along the way. But... none of that mattered.
He looked up at the two officers in front of him, smiled faintly, and spread his hands. Three playing cards slid from his cuffs.
The first card sliced through the air with a faint hiss, piercing the right hand the officer had kept on his belt.
The second card rotated, neatly severing the officer's carotid artery.
The third card traced an eerie arc, striking the throat of the second officer following behind with lethal precision.
"Nineteen minutes left. Plenty of time."
Chen Jiang crouched down, fished a handgun from the corpse of the officer on the ground, expertly ejected the magazine to check it, and then strode toward the law enforcement station. The entire sequence was fluid and seamless.
There wasn't a hint of hesitation.
The mute serpent following him had already picked up a handgun from the other officer's body and was right on his heels.
The moment they entered the station's main gate, Chen Jiang held his gun with both hands, his gaze sweeping rapidly across the front and left sides of the lobby. The mute serpent, trailing close behind, focused immediately on the right, instantly covering the entire room with gunfire.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Precise and steady gunshots rang out continuously inside the station.
Scarlet blood splattered against the glass, looking hauntingly beautiful under the moonlight.
...
The middle-aged man and the high school student standing at the entrance stared at the scene, struck dumb and frozen in place. They looked somewhat lost, unsure of what they should do.
After a long while, the middle-aged man swallowed hard, suppressing the turmoil in his heart, and strode toward the station, intending to help.
He couldn't really offer much assistance, but he had to show the initiative. If his skill wasn't up to par, he had to at least show the right attitude.
He was now certain that these two were no simple characters in reality. It wasn't just that stunning card-throwing technique; the cold, efficient way they killed—these were not just "crawlers."
Even knowing that these people would turn into crawlers in nineteen minutes, most ordinary people would feel psychological pressure. Yet, these two showed absolutely no burden at all.
To put it bluntly, many people would shake and scream just trying to kill a live abalone, let alone a chicken.
He felt a slight sense of relief that he could hitch a ride with these two in his first official dungeon since joining "Paradise of the Gods." But he was even more thankful that this was a cooperative dungeon; if it were a player-versus-player scenario, he would certainly be no match for these two brothers.
However—
When he rushed into the station, the battle was already over.
The gunfire had ceased. Several bodies lay on the floor, their thick blood pooling around them. On a table, an item was emitting a faint white glow.
Just then!
"Bang."
A dull gunshot rang out.
The high school student, who had been sprinting forward, froze in his tracks, less than a meter away from the table. A bullet struck the floor precisely in front of him. The person who fired was the thin man who had been following Chen Jiang.
"...?"
Chen Jiang, hearing the shot, turned to look at the high school student attempting to "cherry-pick" the loot, then at the bullet hole in the floor before him. He said casually, "Looking to graduate early?"
Without waiting for the student to reply, Chen Jiang walked toward the table, raising his left arm without even looking directly at him.
He pulled the trigger.
A gunshot echoed.
The high school student, a bullet hole between his brows, fell heavily to the floor with a look of unwillingness, thick blood quickly flowing from his body.
Only then did Chen Jiang pick up the glowing item from the table and remark, "Mute Serpent, this isn't reality. In the future, if you encounter a situation like this, skip the warning step."
"It’s a pity, though."
"I was actually curious about what buff he had drawn. I hadn't even waited for him to show his cards."
-
「Skill Book」: Basic Firearms.
「PS: All skill books are categorized into four levels: Basic, Proficient, Mastered, and Perfect. This item can be taken out of the dungeon.」
-
This white-tier item was a skill book.
He didn't need it. Mute Serpent didn't need it either. Their marksmanship was likely already at the Mastered level; Basic Firearms was too low. He could sell it for Paradise Coins, though he wasn't sure how much it would fetch.
The middle-aged man standing to the side watched this sudden turn of events, holding his breath, speechless. He hadn't expected the student to be eliminated so quickly.
And... he hadn't expected that the student had lied. Was the buff he drew not "Lone Wolf" after all?
That made sense. He should have realized sooner. The student's excuse was that it was dangerous to act alone, so he wouldn't act alone even if he had "Lone Wolf." But if that was the case, why pick "Lone Wolf" at all? Why not pick something else?
The most likely scenario was...
Connecting it with how the high school student and the short-haired girl had reacted so emotionally to each other's deaths despite not knowing each other, it was highly probable that he had a buff that granted a temporary strength boost upon killing a teammate.
That explained why the student had been so anxious at the time. After all, the short-haired girl was clearly the softest target there.
...
The atmosphere in the station remained deathly quiet.
The three of them worked with tacit understanding. Chen Jiang searched every corner of the station for valuable items, Mute Serpent went around double-tapping the bodies, and the middle-aged man stood at attention, motionless.
"Found it."
Soon, Chen Jiang found a set of keys in the station chief's office. They were the keys to the station's armory. He curled his lips into a smile and said, "The difficulty of this dungeon just got a lot lower."
The novice dungeon was too simple. He was starting to look forward to something with a bit more challenge. In a dungeon this easy, there was too little room for him to showcase his skills.
The station's armory didn't have the ammunition stored separately, which saved him a lot of trouble.
The moment he pushed open the door to the armory, among the rows of firearms hanging on the walls, he spotted a weapon emitting a white glow.
An Uzi submachine gun.
Also known as... the Uzi.
A panel popped up when he touched it.
-
「Item Name」: Uzi Submachine Gun.
「Item Grade」: White.
「Item Effect」: Magazine capacity of 100 rounds. Automatically replenishes to full ammunition after 10 minutes without firing.
「Item Tip」: In lower-difficulty dungeons, one burst is enough to solve most problems.
「PS: Can be taken out of the dungeon.」
-
"Not bad."
Chen Jiang raised an eyebrow, weighing the Uzi in his hand. There were many guns in the armory, but this was the only one that could be taken out of the dungeon.
This must count as a hidden item.
It could only be obtained after conquering the "Law Enforcement Station." By that logic, the other marked location on the map, the "Television Station," should also have a hidden item.
Neither of these places was strictly necessary for completing the main or hidden quests, but it was highly likely that both contained hidden treasures.
