Chapter Forty-Seven: Advancement to Hunter

In the quiet, secluded chamber, the air was filled with the low growls of a young man. After Berg drank the Eagle Eye potion, the first sensation was a burning pain as the liquid slid down his throat, quickly transforming into a rushing heat that surged through his entire body.
“Ah—!”
Pain radiated sharply throughout his body, especially in his eyes, as if flames were burning behind his eyeballs. His vision began to warp and rearrange itself. The unprecedented agony forced him to collapse onto the cold floor, clutching his eyes and rolling back and forth.
“This won’t do—my lord watches over me; I cannot afford such disgrace.”
With this thought, Berg gritted his teeth, enduring the torment. Through his blurred vision, he knelt on one knee before Xia Mingyu, bowed deeply, and remained silent.
“You’ve done well, Chu Berg.”
In the darkness that enveloped him, he felt his lord gently press on his shoulder, accompanied by a soothing voice.
...
Time passed unknowingly, and Berg's consciousness gradually cleared. The pain receded, and his sight returned. But now, unlike before, he could see the tiniest dust particles floating in the air and every delicate crack along the chamber walls, as well as the greatness of the lord standing before him.
“Congratulations on successfully assimilating the Eagle Eye potion.”
Xia Mingyu regarded the youth before him with satisfaction, especially his eyes.
Those were unforgettable eyes.
The pupils were amber, gleaming with a metallic cold light in the sunlight, radiating a powerful penetrating force that evoked the chilling feeling of a raptor locking onto its prey.
Yet, upon noticing Xia Mingyu’s gaze, the cold light in those eyes gradually faded, replaced by submission and respect.
“My lord, it is your glorious protection that shields me,” Berg said calmly.
This was no lie but his true inner conviction—the voice from the darkness had awakened his consciousness.
“Yet, you did not ascend directly to Hunter?”
Xia Mingyu glanced at the white “Hunter” title hovering above the youth’s head, a hint of regret flickering across his face.
“No, my lord. I feel I have reached my limit. What I lack now is a great deed,” Berg shook his head in explanation.
After taking the potion, he distinctly sensed his body’s strength swelling two or threefold, with a mysterious energy gathering within—though it was restrained by some invisible shackle.
A great deed... Xia Mingyu pondered silently.

When he ascended to the rank of True Magician, releasing a triple-layered magic rune spell counted as a great deed. Thus, for a Hunter, such a deed should be a thrilling, exhilarating hunt!
...
The next day.
Wolf Howl Forest.
Gentle sunlight filtered through the dense canopy, forming golden beams that softly touched the moss-covered earth.
“The sun is really blinding!” Xia Mingyu said, feeling the scorching warmth on his face and pressing the brim of his top hat lower.
“My lord, perhaps you should rest in the shade of these trees, and come find me once I have achieved my great deed,” Berg suggested respectfully, fully equipped with a quiver of arrows on his back, bow in hand, and an iron sword at his waist.
“No matter. I want to witness your great deed myself,” Xia Mingyu replied calmly.
Having learned the requirement for ascending to Hunter, the two had returned here for a rare hunt.
They had even refused the earnest request of Viscount Hughes to accompany them. After all, this was just an ordinary hunt—not one requiring the intervention of a Morning Star rank warrior.
Besides, Xia Mingyu wanted to get some fresh air. Though the Black Wolf Fortress was comfortable, its inhabitants’ excessive deference made him uneasy.
A howl!
“We’re now at the heart of Wolf Howl Forest. There’s no need to proceed further,” Berg stopped, listening to the occasional distant wolf howls.
“Please stay up in the tree for now, and witness my great deed,” he said respectfully.
Xia Mingyu did not refuse. He gathered blank magical energy at his fingertips and traced a “Wind” rune and an “Impact” rune onto the ground, then layered the two together.
Whoosh!
With an explosion, a violent ball of wind slammed into the earth.
Using the recoil, Xia Mingyu leapt up, grasping a sturdy branch above, flipping agilely to stand atop the tree.
Since ascending to the extraordinary rank of True Magician, his physical strength had increased significantly; he could now easily take on three to five university students barehanded.
Seeing Xia Mingyu secure in the tree, Berg pulled a black solid piece from his waist pocket and lit it with a match.
The black solid emitted a pungent, slightly fishy odor that made Xia Mingyu cover his nose even up in the tree.
Wolf-Attracting Incense—a special concoction designed to lure wild wolves, gifted to Berg by the long-practiced Solin Knights.
Howl! Howl! Howl!

Shortly after the incense was lit, piercing, mournful wolf howls rose in the distance within the dense forest, accompanied by faint sounds of branches snapping.
Berg’s eyes sharpened; his amber pupils glinted keenly like those of a hawk.
Through the thick brush and leaves, he clearly saw the flickering eyelashes of gray wolves charging at them from hundreds of meters away.
Without hesitation, he swiftly drew a cold iron arrow from his quiver, nocked it to the bowstring, which hummed crisply under the tension.
Swish!
With the sound of cutting air, the arrow shot hundreds of meters, piercing the eye socket of a distant gray wolf and pinning its head directly to a tree.
A mournful beast’s howl echoed from afar.
This was just the beginning. Berg repeated the motion again and again, his fingers moving so swiftly they left only afterimages.
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Iron arrows flew like the Grim Reaper’s scythe, each followed moments later by a pitiful wail.
“Impressive, comparable to the legendary archers of Yuanmen!” Xia Mingyu exclaimed from the tree.
With his vision, even from the tree he could barely distinguish wolf-shaped black dots in the distance.
Yet at such a remote range, Berg was already able to shoot and kill them with precise accuracy.
Perhaps sensing Xia Mingyu’s limited sight, and with seven or eight arrows remaining, Berg lowered his bow and drew his iron sword.
Moments later, accompanied by howls, nine sturdy gray wolves surrounded Berg, their eyes filled with hatred, fixated on him.
The leader was especially massive—standing over a meter at the shoulder, nearly three meters long.
Though wolves, their size rivaled that of a male lion on Blue Star, radiating an intensely dangerous aura.
“Sun, Fire, Impact.”
Seeing this, Xia Mingyu silently began tracing runes, ready to release magic without hesitation if Berg showed any sign of weakness.
