Chapter Two: Courageous Act or Intentional Harm?
“Did you call the police?”
Qi Lin, dressed in her police uniform, looked at the tall figure before her—Ge Xiaolun—with a slight easing of the tension on her beautiful face.
For a moment just now, she had thought Ge Xiaolun was the criminal on the other end of the emergency call.
Although she was reluctant to believe it, having had a somewhat special history with Ge Xiaolun, she knew his character fairly well.
But after glancing at the gaping hole in the ground and then at the battered Liu Chuang, Qi Lin’s heart stirred, and she couldn’t help but furrow her brows slightly.
“Whether you called the police or not, come with us to the station first,” Qi Lin said without wasting time, signaling Ge Xiaolun to get into the car.
Ge Xiaolun didn’t resist; he cheerfully followed Qi Lin and sat in the back of a police car.
As for Liu Chuang, seeing this scene and finally being put into a police car, he felt somewhat relieved.
Four police vehicles sped toward the station, carrying all parties involved in the incident.
Inside Ge Xiaolun’s car:
“Did you guys make that hole in the ground?” Qi Lin looked at the calm and carefree Ge Xiaolun beside her, finally unable to hold back her curiosity.
“To be precise, it was Liu Chuang’s head that made it. I’m not paying for that,” Ge Xiaolun replied with a cheerful grin, looking at the beautiful Officer Qi Lin and not shying away from her question.
“I saw you stepping on his head… Setting aside who’s paying, how could you punch a hole in the ground like that? And no one was seriously hurt?” Qi Lin’s eyes burned with intensity. She had her suspicions but couldn’t quite believe it.
“Enough guessing,” Ge Xiaolun said, waving his hand dismissively. His words were concise: “To put it plainly, Liu Chuang and I have both become super soldiers, invincible and indestructible. Making a hole like that is nothing unusual. Do you understand?”
“I…” Qi Lin’s pupils contracted as she was momentarily speechless.
Super soldiers?
For a fleeting moment, she didn’t dare believe it, yet her mind raced with many connections.
Like the recent spate of abnormal cases.
Like some unusual rumors she had heard.
Even another emergency call she had responded to before coming here.
But no matter how she thought about it, she could hardly believe that super soldiers from movies and novels had truly appeared in real life.
And that the familiar Ge Xiaolun had become one of them.
At that moment, she couldn’t help but imagine many things.
Even the two police officers in the front seat kept glancing back repeatedly.
“Well…” Qi Lin was about to speak again.
But Ge Xiaolun interrupted with a wave: “If you have other questions, we can talk later. For now, I’ll just accompany you to the station to make a statement.”
Discussing super soldiers with ordinary people was complicated, involving too many issues.
He didn’t have the patience to answer, even if it was Officer Qi Lin, whom he had always liked.
Qi Lin fell silent, instinctively wanting to say something but ultimately holding back her sharp police instincts.
“Oh ho, this guy won’t even cut Qi Lin some slack. Maybe he’s holding a grudge?” The male officer in the passenger seat suddenly turned back with a teasing tone.
“Unrequited love breeds resentment, after all, Officer Qi Lin was the woman he couldn’t win over,” the driver chimed in.
Qi Lin paused, a small smile unconsciously tugging at the corner of her mouth as she glanced at Ge Xiaolun’s young, handsome face, memories of amusing past events surfacing in her mind.
“Alright, using such a cliché provocation, you have some nerve,” the male officer said, hinting at past history, but Ge Xiaolun responded lightly, “Given how things are developing, sooner or later you’ll all know about the super soldiers. And one day, I’ll invite you all to celebrate my wedding with Officer Qi Lin. Let you guys who only dared to admire her from afar taste something sweet.”
As a traveler who had reincarnated into this extraordinary world, Ge Xiaolun had no systems to use in his first twenty-plus years, so besides striving for small achievements, he had tried to pursue Qi Lin.
After all, before the official outbreak of the Blue Star war, during those four years from eighteen to twenty-two, he couldn’t always just play matchmaker for his younger brother and fifth madam.
Unfortunately, despite his confidence, Qi Lin was devoted to her career and thought he was too young, so she rejected him.
“You…” The male officer in the passenger seat hesitated, carefully glancing at Qi Lin in the rearview mirror, unsure what to say.
“Wait, don’t you have a girlfriend now? How can you still be thinking about Officer Qi Lin?” The driver pointed out a flaw in Ge Xiaolun’s words.
Qi Lin, who was used to Ge Xiaolun by now, didn’t mind his occasional teasing, but she also knew he indeed had a young girlfriend.
A very beautiful one, even dangerously charming.
So Ge Xiaolun’s boast just now was somewhat unfounded.
“Then I’ll invite you to two weddings,” Ge Xiaolun said grandly with a wave of his hand.
“Get lost!” Qi Lin finally couldn’t help herself and pushed him lightly, annoyed but fond.
***
Before long, the police car arrived at the station.
The oppressive heat of midsummer deepened the night’s stifling atmosphere as Ge Xiaolun, Liu Chuang, and the others stepped down with the police.
Though Liu Chuang’s natural fierce expression had lost some of its earlier panic, he couldn’t help but shudder slightly whenever he caught sight of Ge Xiaolun’s figure.
Despite being fearless before, today he truly understood what ruthless meant—Ge Xiaolun’s ferocity was on an entirely different level from any street thug they had known.
The other two petty thugs brought along were the same; they didn’t dare look at the seemingly amiable Ge Xiaolun.
The observant police noticed this and were surprised, but after some thought, they began to understand.
Inside the station’s police hall, Ge Xiaolun and the others were assigned to different counters for statements.
This simple case, with surveillance footage from the alley entrance, meant everyone told their side truthfully.
The pink-clad little girl victim sobbed as she identified Liu Chuang and his gang as the troublemakers, while Ge Xiaolun was the hero who stepped in.
Even Liu Chuang and the others admitted their guilt without denial.
Or rather, they dared not deny it.
The statements were completed quickly.
“If there’s nothing else, let me go home. My little cat is waiting for me,” Ge Xiaolun stretched leisurely.
“We’ve got your situation,” a lean middle-aged officer said, then shifted tone. “You acted heroically, sure, but your attack was too severe. You’re suspected of intentional assault and will spend the night in the detention room. Tomorrow, we’ll decide whether it was intentional.”
“Huh? Intentional assault? Me?” Ge Xiaolun laughed despite being mentally prepared.
Pointing to himself with a serious look, he said, “Are you really going to accuse a super soldier who just acted heroically of intentional assault?”
The officer frowned. “What, you don’t accept it?”
As he spoke, his hand instinctively moved toward the pistol at his waist.
Other officers in the hall also turned to watch.
