A beam of ion cannon, like a streak of purple laser, was unleashed from the hand of the towering blue-and-white mech. In an instant, it struck Du Qiangwei, who had just jumped through the wormhole.

The explosion’s fiery blaze spread over several meters, instantly engulfing Du Qiangwei’s dark figure.

“Ugh…”

Ge Xiaolun was momentarily stunned, then found himself both amused and helpless.

Though he had intentionally brought Du Qiangwei near this airport road, ready to rush to the scene at the first sign of danger to minimize casualties on Blue Star’s side, he hadn’t anticipated her reaction.

Knowing his combat prowess, she should have stayed back and let him act first when danger arose. Yet she dashed forward immediately, leaving no time for him to respond.

Wormhole jumps were vastly faster than flying; Du Qiangwei appeared in the battlefield about ten kilometers away in an instant.

“Really something to admire!” A warm feeling surged in Ge Xiaolun’s heart. He pushed off the ground and flew toward the battlefield.

Because he needed to calculate distance and prepare for deceleration and turning, his speed wasn’t particularly fast. It took about ten seconds to approach within a kilometer of the battlefield.

Meanwhile, Du Qiangwei, having just been blasted by the ion cannon and dodged through a wormhole, darted and flipped through the pitch-black night sky, evading the relentless pursuit and bombardment of the blue-and-white mech.

The blue-and-white mech—or rather, giant robot—stood an estimated four meters tall, taller than a single story of a building.

It was humanoid in form with a sci-fi aesthetic, its blue and white metallic surface gleaming with eerie blue light at its joints, chest, and eyes.

Behind it spread a pair of massive metal wings, enabling agile flight through the air at a speed easily catching up with Du Qiangwei.

Its huge metal arms could unleash a long-range ion cannon, powerful enough to effortlessly shatter typical tank armor.

Though Du Qiangwei was a super soldier, she could only keep dodging and flipping through the sky to avoid the mech’s relentless pursuit and bombardment.

Occasionally, she threw out a dark alloy throwing knife to test an attack, but the blade couldn’t even leave a scratch on the giant robot, much less harm it.

“Boom!”

Another laser explosion erupted in the sky, a blaze of light that Du Qiangwei narrowly avoided.

“Damned insect!”

The blue-and-white mech grew impatient, its eyes glowing a fiercer blue with anger. A wormhole shimmered in its hand, and it summoned a massive alloy lightsaber over two meters long.

Its massive metal wings unfurled, releasing a piercing sonic boom as it sped toward Du Qiangwei.

“Super soldier or not, I’ve killed countless like you. You’re just the best jumper among them!”

“But an insect is just an insect! An insect easily crushed!”

“Die!”

The blue-and-white mech bellowed in a deep, furious voice. In a flash, it closed in on Du Qiangwei and swung its massive alloy sword heavily toward her petite figure.

Panting, Du Qiangwei’s pupils sharply contracted as the giant robot suddenly closed the distance before her.

She tried to compute a wormhole escape, but there was no time.

The huge metal sword arrived in a split second, the wind of the blade howling.

Instinctively, she raised her arm to shield her head and face.

“Damn you!”

A harsh curse suddenly rang out, followed by a thunderous crash as a dark alloy boot kicked the mech, sending it flying dozens of meters away with overwhelming force.

It was the first time Du Qiangwei heard Ge Xiaolun curse. Once her vision cleared, she realized it had been him who kicked the giant mech away.

“Xiaolun, be careful. This mech’s tough to handle,” Du Qiangwei warned breathlessly, still shaken.

Though the fight had lasted only seconds, she already understood that this mech’s combat power far surpassed her own.

She hadn’t expected the war to come so suddenly, nor the enemy to be so formidable.

Ge Xiaolun steadied himself and didn’t immediately reply, instead scanning the mech nearby.

The blue-and-white mech, having stabilized, glared with cold blue eyes and emitted a low mechanical voice: “Oh? Another super soldier, but—”

“But your mom, lights out, go to sleep!”

Before the mech could finish, Ge Xiaolun waved his hand.

Instantly, the blue light in the mech’s eyes extinguished, its entire body’s glow dimmed, and the turbines in its wings stopped spinning. The towering figure slowly fell from the sky.

With a loud crash, it hit the road below and collapsed, powerless.

Silence fell around them, broken only by the crackling of burning fire under the streetlights.

Du Qiangwei looked at the fallen giant robot lying face down, then at the tall, sturdy Ge Xiaolun beside her, momentarily at a loss for words.

“Just testing your footwork. You really think you’re something, huh?”

“Still want your lines?”

Ge Xiaolun landed atop the mech, one foot pressing on its chest while raising his void sword, infusing it with divine power.

Then, with a mighty strike—

The sword cleaved through the mech’s head!

“You don’t get that many appearances.”

Watching the now silent mech, a faint smirk curved Ge Xiaolun’s lips. He was fairly satisfied with his first real battle.

“I…”

Du Qiangwei stood beside him, speechless as she took in the scene and his sharp, carved features.

“Seriously, you know my fighting strength. Why rush like that?”

Ge Xiaolun wasn’t finished. He raised his sword again toward the mech’s chest and glanced at Du Qiangwei with amusement.

With another powerful strike, he shattered the mech’s chest.

Well, not sure if it mattered, but a few extra blows couldn’t hurt.

“I… I just acted on instinct. You’re not a soldier,” Du Qiangwei explained helplessly upon hearing his words. “Besides, who knows the limit of your ability, and the enemy is unknown. If there’s real danger, I can’t just send you in first.”

Though it was a bit awkward now, that was genuinely her thought before.

Or rather, her instinct.

Though she knew Ge Xiaolun was stronger, even calling him ‘boss,’ he had only joined the Super God Academy a day ago, wasn’t even a formal soldier, and bore no obligation to fight risking his life.

If there was danger, it was better for him to stay out of harm’s way, flee if necessary, or call for backup.

Seeing this scene made her realize Ge Xiaolun’s ability was almost too overpowered.

Good grief, that giant robot just collapsed instantly.

“Consider that my thanks. But next time, use your brain more and respect my opinions.”

Ge Xiaolun sheathed his sword and laughed, patting Du Qiangwei’s shoulder armor. “After all, I’m your boss. You’re not protecting me yet.”

Of course, he knew Du Qiangwei meant well, and he was genuinely touched.

Her approach wasn’t exactly wrong.

But her personality was a bit too self-centered—lacking leadership ability yet always wanting to lead.

“Alright, boss.”

Du Qiangwei looked at him, her eyes shimmering, a warm smile softening her usually cool face.

Ge Xiaolun smiled back, appreciating the reflection of himself in her eyes.

Beneath the dim streetlights, two strangers who had only just met a day ago now seemed noticeably closer and more familiar.

“I didn’t expect war to come so fast, death to come so fast, and that in the end, we can’t save everyone.”

Ge Xiaolun patted Du Qiangwei’s shoulder again, then glanced toward the burning police car nearby.

He gazed at the three figures trapped in the flames, already beyond saving, his voice tinged with melancholy.

Though he had deliberately arrived early to this area to prevent this tragedy and save as many innocent lives as possible, he simply lacked the strength.

He had no way to detect the abilities of the gluttonous creatures, and Blue Star’s side couldn’t locate their units either.

The first strike from the enemy, done in the dark with their knowledge unknown, was unstoppable even by his boundless divine power.

With his current strength, rescue was impossible.

“Don’t be too hard on yourself, Xiaolun. You’ve done very well,” Du Qiangwei said, sensing his mood. She took his hand and quickly comforted him.

Having served as a soldier for three years, she understood the helplessness and despair a rookie feels when facing death.

Her praise was genuine.

She knew better than anyone else that if they hadn’t happened to fly by here today, or if Ge Xiaolun hadn’t ended the enemy so quickly, Blue Star might have suffered even greater losses.

Even if they had been late arriving from the Super God Academy, that terrifying mech could have caused untold casualties before departing at leisure.

“I know. I can manage my emotions,” Ge Xiaolun nodded and quickly steadied himself.

He long knew that no matter how great his magic, no matter how confident or fated he felt, he could not protect billions across the entire Shenzhou continent.

There would be more such incidents in the future.

All he could do was save as many as possible, reducing the death toll compared to the original timeline, and remain guiltless in his heart.

As he spoke, he approached the burning car, braving the fierce flames to yank open the wrecked door and pull out several badly mangled bodies, laying them on a clear patch of road.

Du Qiangwei stepped forward to help. Though neither reacted strongly, a heavy silence hung between them.

“Should we report to Lianfeng and the others? Or wait to coordinate with some department?” After a while, Ge Xiaolun broke the silence, looking at Du Qiangwei.

She nodded. “I’ve already reported. Let’s wait here for a bit, then hand over to other departments, and then—”

“Bang!”

A gunshot suddenly rang out!

Blood instantly splattered across Du Qiangwei’s cheek as her figure slowly collapsed.

“Qiangwei…”

Ge Xiaolun’s pupils contracted sharply!

“Bang!”
