Chapter 57: A Virgin Serves a Great Purpose
With a heavy heart, Ron walked out of the president's office, carrying the long sword rumored to be the personal weapon of the raven-haired woman.
Although the "Sword of Victory and Covenants" met the criteria for a legendary set of gear, it was not merely useless old clothing, and Ron certainly couldn't bear to part with it just for quick cash.
"So this is what a magical item feels like. It doesn't seem all that different from those cursed objects, except perhaps that the latter are more malevolent and impossible to fully control..."
In a royal capital growing increasingly dangerous and plagued by witches, having an extra shred of power meant an extra layer of self-preservation.
Not to mention, Olivia was currently pondering how to set up traps to deal with the witches, and Ron, as the primary party involved, had no intention of shrinking back or fleeing.
Upholding justice, eliminating evil, and performing good deeds had always been his unwavering persistence.
Ron believed that under his guidance, this world would inevitably change for the better as time went on.
As for whether the witches belonging to the rebellious faction could truly be considered good people, or if there were hidden circumstances behind their actions, Ron did not care all that much.
Whether someone was good or bad was something one had to see for oneself; if they were good, everyone would surely get along famously, and if they were bad, it would simply be up to him to guide them back onto the righteous path.
At this thought, a sense of tranquility settled in Ron's heart. He raised his hand and waved at the silver-haired young man approaching him.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Cide."
"Good afternoon, Ron. Why do you look so glum? Did you run into something troubling?"
Having been through the undercover ordeal together, though they hadn't seen each other in a while, it did nothing to diminish the bond between the two men.
Did he look glum?
Pressing his lips together, the blonde youth suddenly realized that his open and honest heart truly did harbor a sliver of melancholy.
It was a lingering obsession with legendary gear, a yearning gaze directed at making a huge fortune.
Facing his good friend, Ron chose not to conceal anything and spoke with grand generosity:
"Mr. Cide, I've discovered a business opportunity that no one else has noticed. Items with legendary authentication, or those previously used by legends, are extremely easy to sell at exorbitant prices."
"So I wanted to use the president's old clothes to put together a legendary gear set and trade it for money."
"Unfortunately, the president didn't agree and even punched me."
Hearing Ron's minor complaint, Cide Flores filtered out the useless information and retained only the most crucial points.
A total fool with deep pockets!
His mind spun at lightning speed, instantly conceiving a brilliant idea. His handsome, aloof face abruptly transformed into one of extreme enthusiasm as he asked in return:
"Why must you sell the president's old clothes?"
You mean sell counterfeit goods?
Isn't that a bit wrong?
Although he, Ron Griffith, might be suspected of profiteering, he had not lost his integrity, moral character, or his conscience as a human being.
If it's claimed to be authentic, it had better be authentic!
Seeming to perceive the blonde youth's inner conflict, Cide Flores smiled and said:
"You're selling a legendary gear set, not an Olivia set. We only need to market it with labels like 'sourced internally from the Stardust Society' or 'private secondhand goods,' and naturally, people will pay for it."
"Besides, we can also add a hint of the 'Olivia fragrance' to it as an anti-counterfeiting mark, while incidentally enhancing the customer's shopping experience."
You can even do that!
Cide's words opened up a brand new world for Ron.
He suddenly felt that the head of logistics was completely right. What he was selling was a legendary gear set, which at best was merely a title.
Furthermore, since it was sold by him, it genuinely originated from within the Stardust Society. As for being "private secondhand," he could completely use "Morphing Magic" to transform into Olivia's appearance and wear it once.
As for that final "Olivia fragrance"...
Ron's attractive eyebrows furrowed. He hardly had the time to transform into Olivia's likeness, put on the clothes, and imbue them with a fragrance indistinguishable from the real thing.
"Mr. Cide, how on earth do we get that Olivia fragrance?"
Seeing this, Cide felt it was his duty as a good brother to help solve the problem.
Thus, patting his chest with a tone that was both deeply emotional and triumphant, he declared:
"Leave the fragrance issue to me. Have you forgotten what I do for a living?"
His deep blue eyes lit up instantly as Ron recalled Mr. Cide's exceptional skills.
He was the great inventor of the Stardust Society, as well as an outstanding alchemist; whipping up some kind of aromatic solution was as easy as snapping his fingers for him!
Joy surged in Ron's heart, and he felt as though every single problem troubling him had vanished into thin air.
When brothers work with one mind, they can cut through metal!
"Mr. Cide, do you want to partner up? We can split the profits from the sales evenly." The youth remembered that the head of logistics still had loans to repay, and to help his good friend, he decided to extend a helping hand.
At these words, Cide Flores nodded heavily. "Rest assured, leave the matter of the fragrance to me!"
"However... I'm afraid I won't have time over the next couple of days. You know the president has been hunting witches recently and wants me to help her design a trap."
At this, a bitter smile crossed Cide's face. "My alchemy rank barely reaches the fifth tier, but my actual strength has always been stuck at the third tier. How on earth would I have the ability to create a trap that can snare a witch?"
To actually need Mr. Cide to build a trap—just how much does Olivia hate witches...?
Hearing this, Ron's little face turned pale, feeling that Cide Flores was being far too modest.
He didn't pursue the topic further, choosing instead to place his full trust in the logistics head's prowess.
"Mr. Cide, then leave the clothing issue to me. I'll go procure them tonight."
The moment the youth finished speaking, just as he was about to bid farewell to his good brother, he noticed the logistics head standing still and looking at him with a puzzled expression.
"What's wrong? Are there any conditions for procuring the new clothes?"
"No, it's not about procuring new clothes. Didn't the president tell you about the mission regarding hunting the witches?"
Hunting witches?
Ron shook his head in confusion.
Although he had joined this operation, he had not received any special arrangements from Olivia.
"Oh, then the president must have forgotten to mention it to you." Cide Flores rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "The president's intention is for you to move into Miss Elena's house starting tonight."
"Mm... preferably sharing the same room."
Ah?
Share a room with that toxic woman?!
"Why?" Ron blurted out, feeling quite reluctant and unwilling.
As a youthful and handsome young man, if he were to share a room with that toxic woman, what would happen to his purity?
Cide Flores pondered for a moment, deciding that he shouldn't break his good friend's heart, and simply mimicked Olivia's posture and tone as he said:
"Why? Cide, where are you getting all that nonsense from? I have my own reasons for planning it this way!"
"The witch's warning letter didn't specify a time, and we can't possibly stake out that b*tch's front door for the rest of our lives."
"So I've decided to use a disturbance in fate to make the witch show herself voluntarily. When that happens... heh heh heh..."
A disturbance in fate?
Hearing this, Ron was deeply shocked, never expecting Olivia to be powerful enough to interfere even with a witch's destiny.
But what did that have to do with him?
Just as he was about to ask again, he suddenly heard Cide, imitating Olivia's posture, declare:
"As far as I know, virgins have a tremendous ability to attract witches!"
